checkout the install video posted by riv. i'm pretty sure the front nitto

Based on these photos where I'm trying to mount it on a 26 Hunqapillar

 worse...a fork with sidepulls?

That's a 2.35 Big Apple and there is 1.75 of clearance above it.

The rack is so tight against the brake arms (Shimano CX70) I cannot even
open the brake to get the wheel out.

Thanks for any advice and if anyone wants to trade a 26 version for this

Re: [RBW] Chain failure question

2012-08-29 Thread Hoffsta
Last time this happened to me, (brand new SRAM 971 with less than 20
miles), I removed it from my primary bike but kept it for use on a seldom
used, short trip bike and replaced the bad link with a master link. It's
been fine on that bike after a few hundred easy miles. If your chain only
has a couple thousand on it, I'd keep it for a backup as it likely still
has lots of life left, but as mentioned, you'll probably sleep better at
night if it's not on your primary long distance bike.

I don't recall this ever happening to me and so before I just reattach

  So, fix or trash?

[RBW] Re: Nitto Front Rack Fitting Help

2012-08-29 Thread Minh
Ginz. I have one of these, this is the older version with less flexibility. You
could try and sell it for the newer version with more adjustability, or you
could spend some time at the hardware store to make it work.

What you need is a small metal bracket/strip with two holes to space it farther
out. Tis may cause the top to tilt forward a little bit.

When I got my front rack the previous person tossed these in as he had the same
problem. On my bike I have the ird cafam cantis and they are pretty thin in
thickness, so I can get away with not using the extensions, but its a really
tight fit. I can still open them up to remove the wheel but there's not much
worki g room.

I'm not home at the moment, but I can send pics if you need to see something.
Personally I would just browse the aisles at the hardware store for the right
bits to make it work.

[RBW] Re: iPhone Geeks

2012-08-29 Thread BykMor
Just to give some feedback on Brian's and add some more Riv'ish support.

I used the BioLogic system with my iPhone 4 and Schmidt hub and headlight
during a through the night race on my Riv Rambouillet. It may not be the
slickest self-contained system, but I like the versatility. I spliced the
wire coming off the hub to run both the light and the charger. The charger
wire runs through the fancy circuitry module about the size of a thumb
(zip tied to a fork leg) and plugs in to a detachable battery unit slightly
smaller than a deck of cards (strapped nicely to my head tube). You have
the option of just charging the battery or plugging a charging cable in to
the 'out port' on the battery and basically running the current straight to
your unit. UNFORTUNATELY, if your unit happens to be an iPhone, you need an
Apple-dapter for the USB side of your normal charging cable. Mine was
finicky and lost contact some time during the night. My phone battery
drained and the GPS stopped :-( It rained a majority of the time and the
BioLogic iPhone case worked fine. The rain didn't have anything to do with
the finicky adapter contact.

NOTE: I have the separate battery and not the ReeCharge iPhone case. The
case/battery unit may have solved the adapter issue.

I'll be using it again this year but probably just run the charge in to my
wife's Garmin unit. I'll definitely be riding the Racing Riv Ram!

Cheers,
BykMor

For those of you who want to ride with an iPhone GPSish app beyond the

 ReeCharge units (
 http://www.thinkbiologic.com/products/reecharge-case-iphone). The case,
mount, and dynamo kit are all required, but come in cheaper than some of
the other solutions out there. I've been using one now on two bikes for a
month or two, and have had no problems with the brackets coming loose.
I've jumped curbs and hit lots of big bumps, including some that have
tossed Garmin units from my bars in the past. The charger seems to work
well, and the case has pretty good visibility/usability. The case also has
a built in battery that stores the charge, and charges the phone when you
 need it.

I know this is a bit of a stretch on this forum, but riv content is that
the mounts are on an AHH and a Hunqapillar. Here's some recent photos
showing wiring using different methods. Not the prettiest, but I'm
 pragmatic :)

 Hunqa: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjBGj4NL
 Hilsen: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjBGE7Hd

Both are set up to work with lights, as well. I haven't been in any rain
yet, so I can't vouch for waterproof-ness, but I'm sure that won't last
much longer here in Seattle. The case has rubber gaskets on all openings,
 so my hopes are high.

[RBW] Re: 10-speed friction shifting probs gettin' a look-see today.

2012-08-29 Thread Montclair BobbyB
Auto-shifting (IMO) might indicate a shift lever problem (ie lever not
tight enough). Or could it be that there's a certain (micro) amount of
cable movement you can't avoid with friction shifters, and a 10-speed
cassette just amplifies this??? For me a 5-7 speed freewheel/cassette is
optimum for friction shifting... I think you'll have less of (or no)
problem with auto-shifting with a 7-speed cassette (as long as you keep
your friction shifter tight enough). Good luck.

Re: [RBW] Should I Just Ride, or am I already?

2012-08-29 Thread Toshi Takeuchi
One thing I do when I climb out of the saddle (I don't know if it's
right or efficient or whatever--I ain't a racer) is to push down
on the pedal with my body weight through my hip--not my legs (force
the pedal down with the hip). With every pedal stroke, I think
hip-hip-hip-hip to myself. This saves my quads from work and engages a
different muscle group--I feel my butt muscle on the side. If I don't
think of my hip, then my inclination is to power my weight down
through my leg (rather than my hip) and I tend to tire my leg using my
quad muscle, which I try to conserve as much as I can.

You are correct. Dove is less wide, aluminum version of Albatross. I put

 B 67 or B 72?? I mention these only I've actually used them.

Lastly, the pedals are very slippery -- cheap cast aluminum with thin

slippery? Prefer not to spend $60; how well do the Riv Sneaker Pedals
grip your shoes? MKS Touring Pedals would work but I wonder if they

RE: [RBW] Handlebar, saddle and pedal questions ICW Novara Fusion

2012-08-29 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J
Patrick:

It's not a race bike -- why couldn't she sub in MKS rubber block pedals?
http://harriscyclery.net/product/mks-rubber-pedals-with-reflectors-9-16-663.htm
I don't find them slippery at all, and they're shin-friendly for sure. Harris
has some cheaper ones ($12), but I've been really satisfied with the MKS
version -- they're quite nice and IMHO would look good on that (very
attractive, by the way) bike.

Subject: [RBW] Handlebar, saddle and pedal questions ICW Novara Fusion

Friend has ridden Fusion once to work and it looks as if a new bar is in order
to allow an even more upright position while we put the saddle back an inch or
so. The attached photo shows much how the bike is presently set up.

I'm for the Dove or Albatross, but VO has swept back bars considerably cheaper
@ $35 with rises of 6 or 7 cm and sweeps-back of 18 and 19 cm.
I don't see these measurements for the Dove and Alb on the Riv site; can anyone
tell me how they compare to the VO bars?

http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/handlebars/vo-left-bank-handlebar-config.html

http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/components/handlebars/vo-montmartre-handlebar.html

Am I right in thinking that the Dove is very much like the Alba, just made of
aluminum and not as wide?

Also: She'll eventually need a better and wider saddle. Brooks out of question
right now, so I am seeking plastic alternatives: can anyone point me to a nice,
firmish, sprung saddle shaped more or less like a B 67 or B 72?? I mention
these only I've actually used them.

Lastly, the pedals are very slippery -- cheap cast aluminum with thin ribber
inserts, worst of both worlds. She'll be riding in athletic shoes. Any
suggestions for inexpensive replacements that aren't as slippery? Prefer not to
spend $60; how well do the Riv Sneaker Pedals grip your shoes? MKS Touring
Pedals would work but I wonder if they are not more dangerous to tyro shins
than the Sneaker-type design?

Lastly, if anyone has any of the above parts in good used condition and wishes
to sell or trade, please let me know offlist.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate that.

They mechanic said looked like the lever needed tightening, and the

I'll see how it does on the commute today.

Re: [RBW] Chain failure question

2012-08-29 Thread Tim Whalen
Thanks everybody. It certainly is the most prudent thing to simply get a
new chain. I confess that I am puzzled about why it failed in the first
place and in a perverse way that makes it harder for me to decide. It
doesn't seem that one bad link should be predictive of the others but who
knows?
Best,

been fine on that bike after a few hundred easy miles. If your chain only
has a couple thousand on it, I'd keep it for a backup as it likely still
has lots of life left, but as mentioned, you'll probably sleep better at

  Hi All,

Yesterday the Campagnolo chain on my Roadeo broke, fortunately as I was
leaving a stop sign right by my house at the end of a ride so there was no
problem of any sort. It looks like the pin pulled out of one the links on
one side; there was no sign of anything wrong that I noticed before I
realized I was pedaling thin air.

I don't recall this ever happening to me and so before I just reattach
it a link shorter or put a quick link in where the failed link was, I
wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts or experience. My only concern
with repairing it of course is if one link could fail maybe so could
another. I'd guess the chain has at most a couple of thousand miles on it
and I've been pretty good about keeping it lubed.

  So, fix or trash?

  Thanks in advance,

[RBW] FS: Nitto, Brooks, Cygolite, Sidi, Shimano et. al. Garage Sale

2012-08-29 Thread Mike On A Bike
I've built up an accumulation of quality bike stuff that is no longer
useful to me, and it's time to finally have a garage sale with it all.
All prices are merely suggestions, and I am happy to take your best
offer if the price seems high. All payments via PayPal or personal
check, add 2% fee to price for PayPal. Reasonable shipping charge will
be added for each sale, at cost.

Descriptions for all available as follows, with photos available here:
http://imgur.com/a/MY6EX#2

1) Tioga Surefoot Pedals: ($40) Bought from Rivendell in May of 2009
and ridden 200 miles total, as they were too small for me. In good
condition, though one of the dust caps has a crack from over
tightening, but is still functional.

2) [Used] Sidi Mountain Shoes, size 47: ($80) Bought these in 2008 for
about $180 as I remember it, and wore them no more than 100 miles. I
never got into the SPD setup, and they've been collecting dust for a
while now. In very good condition and have Shimano cleats attached.

3) [Used] Shimano SPD Sandals, size 45: ($25): Bought these in 2008
and used for two short rides. Just washed them so they should be
pretty much rid of any barefoot grossness (is it weird to sell used
sandals?). They no longer have that brown crud on them, picture is pre-
cleaning. SPD cleats attached.

4) Two Nitto Racing Cages ($35 for both or $20/ea): Bought in 2010 and
used for a year, but stopped using them as they would tend to catch on
my pants. The wire got bent a few times as a result, and has been bent
back to very close to original shape (see picture).

+ Nitto Wire Guard ($25): Bought 3 months ago and used for a few
weeks, in like-new condition. I found I needed a saddlebag support, so
I just don't need it anymore. Picture available upon request.

5) Nitto Dirt Drop Stem ($35): Bought this in 2009 for my Quickbeam,
but I've switched to a different cockpit. It is in good condition, and
the corrosion seen in the picture has been mostly removed.

6) Nitto Crystal Fellow Seatpost 27.2 X 250 ($50): This came with my
Quickbeam in 2009, but I quickly shelved it for a lugged seatpost. It
is in very good condition.

7) Selle SL Saddle ($30): Bought this as a backup from Performance in
2011 for $80 and have never used it, new condition.

8) Velo Orange Repair Stand ($15): Used this a couple times and it
works well, but I prefer a proper stand.

9) [New] Brooks B.17 Saddle ($70): Bought this as a backup but only
ride Berthoud now. New in original packaging.

10) 2 Princeton Tec EOS Lights ($20): Two for the price of one since
one has a missing spring in the battery compartment, which I'm sure is
an easy fix. Does not include any of the mounting brackets, just the
lights.

11) Shimano Ultegra Touring wheel, built by Rich Lesnik ($100): This
wheel was built by Rich and is composed of a 36-hole 2010 Shimano
Ultegra Hub (130mm axle), DT Swiss spokes, and a Mavic A719 rim. It
was ridden approximately 3,000 miles and is true. As I ran it for a
little while on my Hillborne, it can work with 135mm spacing.

12) Basic Polar Heart Monitor ($25): Not exactly sure which model, but
bought in 2010 for $60 and never used. Includes watch, monitor, strap
and bike mount for the watch.

13) Cygolite MityCross 350 Headlight ($75): Bought in 2010 and battery
replaced in 2011 with low use after that. The light is in very good
condition and the battery should last a while. Last I used it, a full
charge lasted about 2 hours on high. This is a very bright light and
illuminates a whole roadway at night, adequate even on fast downhill
descents for me.

14) Ritchey WCS 27.2 X 350 Seatpost ($40): Bought as a backup in 2010
for $80 and never used/mounted. New condition.

15) German Mirror from Riv ($12 + s/h): Bought in 2009 and used for a
few weeks, but I wasn't comfortable depending on it. Clamp has been
cut down from original, but should be more than enough to fit any
tube. Some scratches on glass, as seen in picture.

16) Grundens Poncho, large ($75): Bought in 2011 and used less than 10
times. While the coverage is excellent, I just get too hot in this and
prefer a lighter setup. Has reflective strip mounted on back. Minimal
blemishes and very good used condition overall.

17) Pair of Schwalbe Marathon GreenGuard Tires 700 X 32 ($40); Bought
these from Peter White in 2011 and stopped riding them after about 700
miles when the bike they were on died. Lots of tread left, and I think
Rivendell [http://goo.gl/AbdS5] says they should have a lifespan of
7-10K. Never had a puncture on them.

18) Set of Silver SKS ESGE Fenders w/ River City Reacharounds Split
Fender Setup ($30): Set these up on a bike that died, they are maybe a
year old and were used for about 1000 miles. They were very cleanly
setup by my LBS and they work great for fendering a bike with narrow
clearances, like the old Trek 520 they were on. Pictures available by
request.

* Also Available*, with pictures to be added: two one-person tents
1) Big Agnes Seedhouse SL1 ($150): Bought in 2009 and

The only drawback I can find is it's too cheap, so people think it's less

At the LBS, I asked about switching to a less-than-10-speed cassette, and

still be able to work correctly.

He was very nice to take a look at it and fix it while I waited. They are

RE: [RBW] Handlebar, saddle and pedal questions ICW Novara Fusion

2012-08-29 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J
I love the German mirror sold by Riv, here on my Quickbeam:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/4411486441/in/set-72157623567913352

In my experience, the Sneaker pedal is lighter but less grippy than the rubber
block pedals. I do like the Sneaker, though.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Sneaker pedal versus rubber block?

Can anyone give me the rise and sweep-back of the Dove?

Additional question: mirror? She bought and I installed this mirror:

http://www.bicyclebuys.com/accessories/Mirrors/0139961R

But (a) the lense popped out three times in 10 miles, and:

It very easily got out of adjustment.

I am inclined to forego mirrors entirely, but perhaps there is a mirror that
(1) attaches to the bike -- not to helmet or glasses; (2) doesn't vibrate
excessively; (3) is reasonably sturdy; and (4) keeps its adjustment?

Tx agn.

thought I would cast a net out there to see if anyone has a Frame/Fork/
Headset they wanted to part with. I will be doing the build since she
likes IGH hubs for around town riding. Any condition really is fine as
long as there are no dents/accident damage. I can do re-sprays in my
yard with some yummy toxic paint if needs be. I know this is a long
shot but if you never ask you never know. Thanks all.

I also am a big fan of the Mirror Aleman. If you snug up the screws once its

Thanks -- definitely the one to get. Twice the $ of the Cateye but at
least 100,000 times better, apparently.

Glad I can order from Riv, anyway: Doves + mirror + reflective

Jim and Tom: The German mirror is the one, then. Tom: I see you're leaning

I'm inclined to go with rubber pedals, too as they will grip (sort of)
leather or hard rubber soles as well as athletic soles.

[RBW] South Bay Area S24O invite - Castle Rock

2012-08-29 Thread Andrew Letton
Hi South Bay Area Folks-

I'm planning another S24O to Castle Rock State Park this weekend...

(Article on S24O camping:
https://www.adventurecycling.org/resources/Petersen_S240s.pdf )

When: Sunday evening 9/2/2012
Where: Castle Rock State Park hiker-biker campground, aka Castle Rock Trail
Camp

Camp map: http://www.parks.ca.gov/pages/538/files/CastleRockCGmap.pdf

I did my first-ever S24O here on Memorial Day this year, and it was lovely.
There are several clusters of campsites. I found the ones on Frog Flat (#1
through #5) to be most pleasant, with open sky for stargazing, so that's where
I'll probably be. Full moon is Friday 8/31 (my birthday!) so it will rise a
couple of hours after sunset on Sunday.

Bike access to the campground is only via the ~1 mile dirt road called Service
Road Trail on the map, which is about 1.5 miles South of Hwy 9 on Hwy
35/Skyline Blvd. The Service Road Trail shares a driveway with the Los
Altos
Rod Gun Club at 14750 SKYLINE BOULEVARD, LOS GATOS, CA 95033. The Service
Road
is to the left when facing the Gun Club entrance.

There is piped drinking water at the campground, though in these times of
tight
state budgets, I'll be bringing enough water to get me through the night, just
in case it is not available. I'll be registering for a campsite, which is
good
for up to six people, so no need for you to register unless we get a crowd.

I'm planning to ride from our home in Redwood Estates via Summit/Skyline,
leaving late afternoon Sunday, with a very rough ETA at the campground of 5-6pm

-- time enough to pitch camp, eat some dinner, and maybe take a little hike
before sunset. In the morning I'm planning to rise when my body is ready to
wake up (Yay!) and ride home to Redwood Estates again via Skyline/Summit.

I lucked out when I was there on Memorial Day, in that it was the last day of
the burn season, so I was able to build a campfire. Now that it is peak fire
season, we won't be able to have a campfire. (I'll be bringing a tiny camp
stove). It is predicted to be in the low 50's at night, so I'll be bringing
layers of wool...

I'd love to have some company; hope to meet you there.

cheers,
Andrew

Re: [RBW] Re: Riv's new Thin Gripster pedals?

2012-08-29 Thread BSWP
I just got a pair via UPS, they look great. So thin! only about 13mm thick.
Weight is 6.2 oz per pedal, or 174 grams. The widest part extends about 110
mm from face of the crank where they screw in, and have about 83 mm of
flat across the top of the platform, measured front to back. Nice matte
finish, though I think I'll take a file and chamfer the edges slightly.
Looking forward to riding with them.

Thanks to RBW for stocking them, and for the ultra-fast shipping.

[RBW] FS: Rivat fleece-lined winter boots

2012-08-29 Thread PATRICK MOORE
These fit me well who have feet on the cusp of 44/45. I used them for
a season with clips 'n' straps but they really need cleats (single
bolt; in one the bolt has sheared off) or a new, vibram sole, or need
to be adapted to SPD.

I forget what I paid for these, so let's just say $50 shipped OBO,
with the OBO in 32 pt type, bold and italic. All reasonable offers
considered. Trade offers welcome.

Note that the binding around the ankle is cracked, but the leather is
good and so is the fleece, and the sole is not separating at any point
from the upper.

I called them my Elf boots because the toes do stick up a bit, but
that didn't make them feel weird when in use.

[The Sunday School Superintendent's] boot toes were turned sharply
up, in the fashion of the day, like sleigh- runners -- an effect
patiently and laboriously produced by the young men by sitting with
their toes pressed against a wall for hours together. Tom Sawyer

These are ready to rock and roll.

[RBW] Needed for charity bike builds.

2012-08-29 Thread PATRICK MOORE
I am brokering the donation of two doggy bikes to poor members of our
church. One is an old, bottom-level Centurion -- to be used by very,
very smart 19 year old living on the Rez (his Anglo his mother teaches
Eng Lit in the pub school system on the Rez; he's a very nice guy when
he isn't toking -- not much else for a kid to do on the Rez); the
other is a gawdawful Big 5 cruiser bike that, nonetheless, may be
useful for an overweight mother. I'd just buy the stuff myself, but I
am myself pretty close at this point to needing charity myself.
(Hoping for some resume writing deals to materialize -- summer is
always slow. Glad I bought two custom Rivs when I was flush.)

Anyway, if anyone has any of these things and won't mind shipping them
to me at 87120, several people would be grateful. I can probably
manage postage if it comes to that.

Centurion:
Drop bars, 26.0 or 25.4, doesn't matter.

Saddle for Centurion -- plastic fine as long as it's sit-able.

Brake pads for caliper brakes.

Brake cable and housing.

Cruiser:

Tourist bar, 25.4, doesn't really matter what as long as it's not a
butterfly bar.

Grips for same.

Thanks.

Rode ~24 miles today, and even made it up the steep hill behind Don
Chalmers on the Green with load -- young buck passed me, continually
downshifting, and I couldn't bear to walk. Seriously, not too bad -- I
tried to ride slowly between my house and the hill.

[RBW] Gratuitous Beer Haulin' Photos

2012-08-29 Thread Brian Hanson
http://flic.kr/s/aHsjBM7ciu

Yes - I know, it's sort of cliche at this point. Not to mention youthful,
but I picked up the month's beer supply at the local supplier, and carried
it home on the truck (54cm Hunqapillar). It was interesting to carry
that much weight (20+ lbs) on the high front, and try to meander uphill to
my house, but it worked!

[RBW] Re: Un-racer bike fitting. Your thoughts on my situation.

2012-08-29 Thread lungimsam

I had a lightbulb moment tonight about this whole fit issue I have been
 concerned about.

Here was my original concern about the fit set-up:

I was told by the fit guy, that the BGFit I got a couple years ago is
transferable to all bikes, regardless of style.

However; setting the saddle height and fore/aft on the Bleriot with the
same measurements as my pro road bike fit, mysteriously will yield a closer
reach measurement from saddle nose to the bar top at clamp.
I thought that then this means the road bike pro fit is untransferrable to
the Bleriot. This would make sense since the geometry of the Bleriot is
different than the race bike, even though This had me scratching my head.

*Aha! But!* I keep bars on my Rivendell are a few inches *higher *than the
saddle (and I'm keepin' 'em there unitl they are pried from my cold, dead
hands). On my race bike, the bars are a couple *inches* lower than its
saddle.

Because the Bleriot bars are higher, this moves them back closer to the
saddle, shortening the reach measurement. Duh!!! I shoulda thought of that
before! I bet if I lower the Bleriot bars lower than the saddle like the
race bike, the reach will be about the same.

So I think I will set it up so that the saddle height and fore/aft will be
the BGFit, and just keep the bars closer (since I like 'em high) if they
still feel good that way. Of course, the bike doesn't have to be the same
as the race bike for saddle height fore/aft, but if it has been working for
my legs, why change it.

I may play around with it and try a Rivendell Fit one day. That means my
SH will be .25cm lower than my BGFit (according to the formula given in
Just Ride [PBH - 11= SH]). And I could try shoving the saddle all the way
back, which is mentioned in Just Ride, too.

Anyway, I will set it up and see how it feels.

Month's?? Looks like a week's!

PSA: Costco, 24-count mix of ales, $18.99 -- good for a week or so --

Back when I was trying out the front load system on various hacked up

he rides in sandals (sanuk shoe sandals) and can and will smoke most

the foot connection to the bike is no real handicap. These pedals take the
Riv riding free ethic to a new level. The market is changing, and an
expanding pool of riders are open to alternative ideas. These high quality
flat pedals are thin and light, provide the support that is traditionally
expected of the shoe, yet let you have the freedom to wear what you want.
Imagine a world where a tri racer running in minimalist shoes will chose
these for the bike leg to cut transition times to zero, and can use the
same pedals on tuesday to roll over to the park with the kids.

And on a side note about price, Riv is beyond competitive, not sure how
they do it, but at this point do not bother trying to out shop this deal if
you were thinking about getting a pair

[RBW] Re: Un-racer bike fitting. Your thoughts on my situation.

2012-08-29 Thread Philip Williamson
.25cm is 1/10 of an inch. Wear jeans, and it will be perfect.

Even I can't tell if this is snarky, or zen, but my intentions are good. If
the 1/8 difference in saddle height feels wrong, change it. It's very
likely that you will be wearing thicker trousers riding in Riv Mode than in
Racer Mode, which could well take up the difference, BUT, you might have a
higher stack height on your pedal, and thicker shoes, which will compound
the problem, possibly doubling or trebling the fit error. It's all very
complicated, until you get on the bike and go. Buy an allen key that fits
your seatpost clamp, tuck it in your pocket, and find out what you like
best.

Verdict: Wow. It's unquestionably the must luxurious bike I've ever
ridden -- smoothes out bumps like they weren't there (~40mm Marathons may
have something to do with that, but they're certainly not the most supple
mid-fat tire in the line-up, so I think it's mostly the bike). Not just a

beautifully, goes exactly where it's pointed (even at very low speeds), and
is insanely comfortable in the saddle. And the most amazing thing is that
with the Bullmoose Bosco bars, when I stood up to mash on a high gear
 uphill (the derailleur/shifter was slipping, so I didn't shift much -- I'll
work on that tonight), it was as if somebody had reached down and made the
 perfect bike/fit for me alone.  The grips were in the perfect spot;
everything seemed perfectly aligned; it was really almost too easy.

This bike is a home run.

It's going to be my main commuter and errand bike, so it's getting a
Platrack with large Wald basket and large Shopsack on the front, and a
large Nitto Rear Rack on the back, probably with some Swift Industries
Short Stack panniers. SON hub with Supernova lights front and rear. VO
fluted aluminum fenders. And maybe even some of them-there Thin Gripsters,
too. Or maybe a set of Hillbubba's Grip King Deluxes.
