[RBW] Re: New rig and Sunday afternoon ride
Hi Mike, A tour to mark ten years is an excellent plan :)I'd love to see some pics of your Curt Goodrich A/R. About the ST decal, yes it's an option, you can request wrap-around or diamond style. They even have different outline colors to choose from. Matt On Tuesday, June 25, 2013 7:49:40 PM UTC-4, M D Smith wrote: Very nice All-rounder! I have custom (Curt-built) A/R as well (26 wheels, though) and am pleased as punch with it. How exciting to have a future old friend and traveling companion! I was just looking at my records and I ordered it in January of '03 and it was delivered at the end of July '04. It seemed like an eternity and I probably purchased parts for three complete bikes in that time... (Wow, I can't believe it's been that long. I guess I have to start planning a 10 year anniversary tour for next summer!) One thing I notice about your bike is that it has the diamond shaped old style decal on the seat tube rather than the more recent wrapped all the way around rectangle. Was this an option? Are they moving back to the older style? Just curious. I was always fond of the older diamond style and it's nice to see a new bike with that style. Enjoy the ride and thanks for sharing! Patrick, I just think it's cool that you can call them up, and whoever answers the phone is probably going to answer your question/help you out right then. Oftentimes Grant will answer the phone. How many longstanding, renowned companies (almost 20 years for Rivendell) have founders who still talk to you when you call them up.It means something. [RBW] Re: Albastache bars mounted on my Atlantis.
*Test ride* went great. I love these compared to the old mustache. I only rode about 40 minutes but I am very pleased. The reach is not as far as the old mustache and I like the way I can put my hands to avoid compression on the nerves in the center of the base of my palms. I rest the outer part of my palm, the fleshy part (under the little finger side) on the pull back part of the bars, and my fingers fall on the forward loop. Perfect. Before I rode them, I lucked out and found the sweet spot as far as the angle of the bars by just setting the bars at what looked the best and felt comfortable, which was parallel with the ground. It turned out that is the best position for my seat height. They feel like they will be just as good as the old mustache off road, and perfect for around town or touring. The pull back ends come back farther, shifting your weight off your hands. They are a world of difference compared to the old mustache. I don't have experience with the Albas, but I can say that being able to put my hands out in the loop, while braking, works much better (especially off road), than other upright bars I have used. I like them better than the Noodle, better than my Salsa Woodchippers (which IMHO is the worlds perfect drop bar), or flat, or pullback bars. For me, with a bum back and Carpal tunnel (that has kept me off my bike...alot), the bars are as perfect as can be. I am very happy with them. I will write more later. I plan on riding today if it quits raining. I will also attempt to get photos of hands on the bar with a side shot to show body angle etc. So far, so good! Stay tuned for a followup of a longer test ride On Tuesday, June 25, 2013 7:41:39 AM UTC-7, clayton wrote: New Abastaches on my Atlantis. The bars address the old problems. Closer, flatter, higher. My one wish is that they were rounder where they return to the stem. Brooks tape is the bomb. I have wrapped and rewrapped at least 20 times with the same tape on various bars. The tape is getting a little ratty, but I have come to believe that leather tape is the most cost effective tape out there, it you experiment with different bar set ups. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-wP4llY7FHZ0/UcmoTpWSfdI/ABk/OzTsBEgnUrA/s1600/IMG_0544.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-j4yx4PByhCo/UcmoLj6pFII/ABc/eVRaICl7Pfw/s1600/IMG_0543.jpg -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Another lesson: Check with local cyclists if possible. Locals would probably not have routed you on Highway 92. [RBW] Re: WTB: 26 inch 32 hole wheelset
We use DaVinci V23 rims, 36 hole, on our tandem and have been very happy with them. They are not for sale, of course, but I recommend them as a strong and light rim. We match them with the marathon racers 1.6 tires for a nice ride. http://www.davincitandems.com/comp.html#rim Michael On Wednesday, June 26, 2013 3:00:43 PM UTC-4, shawn wrote: All, I am in search of a wheelset for my wife's 51cm Atlantis. [RBW] Re: Who's Got a Betty on Order?
Johnny, Yeah, the wife has been waiting a long time to get her pretty hands on her new Betty! Just finished the final build specs today so not much longer. I know the feeling of anticipation surrounding a new bike especially a Rivendell. Look forward to pics when you get your Sam. Sorry bout the delay. I heard the order of Bettys came in and there are a bunch getting built up right now. Thanks. [RBW] Nitto R14 vs r15
Looking at getting either the Nitto R14 or R15 for my soon to be built Quickbeam. It is going to have a basket on it. I am leaning towards the R15 for the extra versatility- able to mount panniers- but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or opinions. They both look like great racks. Is one of these the clear winner? Thanks! cm -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] Nitto R14 vs r15
The top of the two are pretty much the same but the R-15 does have the sides. They don't extend as far down as the full Nitto Campee rear or a Tubus but they are useful for panniers. They are perfect for the small Berthoud rear panniers. And useful if you have a load that drapes over the top. [RBW] Re: Well that was Stupid. (SuperMoon S240 Recap.)
Manny, You may not have gotten the moon shots or others you wanted, but you did capture a very comprehensive story by paying attention to what was right in front of your. This series of shots tells me a story of anticipation, struggle and disappointment, your ability to see the story and capture it is important because you are moving from snap shots that just capture a moment to being able see both the individual shots while being in the flow of the moment. While I understand your disappointment you have not only produced some to be proud of you've also taken a big step forward as a photographer. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
