[RBW] Re: What is the best place to buy Pro 5 Vis 52 outer rings?

2015-09-25 Thread Peter Adler
As were mine. I've gotten outer rings for as little as $10 apiece. It's
worth checking eBay.co.uk and eBay.fr as well; searches on the US site
don't always root out items on the foreign sites.

I'm pretty sure I have a 52T or two that I'm unlikely ever to use. Give me
the day to check my stash.

These parts are near new and show very little to no use. Here's a list:

TRP Brake Levers RRL SR Retro Silver (with gum hoods) - $60
Deore XT Med cage RD 9 speed (plays nice with 10s shifters)- $60
Dura Ace 10s barend shifters (incl. cable housing, new cables, cable stops for
downtube brazeons) - $50
Cinelli A1 Quill Stem (110mm) - $30
Nitto Dream Bar (46cm; light scratches on center sleeve) -$30

I also have:

Easton EA50 Monkey Bar (new, take off from mtn bike, 31.8 center section) - $25

Re: [RBW] Re: Has anyone used this Look-to-SPD adaptor? Are they any good? Do the cleats hold up well?

2015-09-25 Thread tarik saleh
Patrick,

they look like them for sure. I would say almost all current (last 5
years) welgo spd clone pedals take shimano cleats no problem. I would say
most modern shimano pedals usually take modern welgo spd clone cleats. The
ones that don't fit the most category are the ones to watch out for. The
usual failure mode is you can't get out of the pedal with the welgo cleat
in the shimano pedal This is not nearly the issue that it used to be, but
I have not tried all combinations.

personally I would not run Welgo cleats in shimano pedals based on some
crappy interfaces in the last 10 years. I run shimano cleats in my welgo
wamd10 bmx/spd pedals with zero problems for the last decade. But try it
carefully and repeatedly before you mix and match.

Have fun

RE: [RBW] Show me your Garage/Workshop/Cave/Storage Spaces

2015-09-25 Thread Allingham II, Thomas J
My wife set up half of our basement as a bike workshop for me – Christmas gift.
It's a great place to build/tinker/etc. She had GarageTek storage wall cover
installed on three full walls, which supports all kinds of modular storage
pieces. I use a variety of their storage units, but the most useful are shelf
brackets/shelves, on which I place Rubbermaid plastic storage containers in
several sizes. The shop also has modular grease-resistant and slightly padded
floor "tiles" installed. Bought at BJ's, I think, and cut with a knife to fit
at the edges. I love this flooring – if an area gets damaged, you just pull up
that 16 or 18 inch square piece and install a new one, which costs a couple of
bucks (I have an extra half dozen pieces squirreled away) and takes about 30
seconds.

She also ceded to me a bar with stools and a wash-up sink, where I clean old
parts and build wheels. There's even a bathroom down there!

Here's a pic that shows two sides of the shop, one where I have GarageTek bike
holder brackets and long holders on which I store tires and fenders, and the
other (the back wall) which has GarageTek small piece bins, in which I store
various size bolts, nuts, washers, fender and other hardware, etc. You can
sort of see how the storage units slot into the GarageTek modular wall
covering. Very flexible – I like it a lot:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/20666113463

And here's a pic that shows the third wall, where the shelf units are installed
with the plastic Rubbermaid containers, in which I keep by category all sorts
of parts and accessories:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/11052521934

That latter pic shows the line of demarcation between my half of the basement
and my wife's half – there's a pretty stark difference in the degree of clutter
(or chaos, depending on your point of view) between the two.

This final pic shows the difference, as well as the parts-cleaning and
wheelbuilding bar (you can see the Park wheelbuilding stand on the bar in the
right background), and my freestanding wooden bench (with two vices), which is
a really useful place to work:

https://www.flickr.com/photos/37542512@N04/11052436255/in/photostream/

I feel lucky every day to have such a nice shop.

for the first time in my life, i am moving to a place with a garage. 1.5ish car
size, stand alone, all wood. i have been gifted the use of it by my spouse, who
just asks that we keep camping stuff and luggage up in the rafters. im very
excited, but also in need of some ideas and inspiration for how to make the
space great. I figured that there must be some crossover of people who
appreciate rivendells and people who appreciate a nicely designed and set up
workshop.

it'll house 4-5 bikes and i want to set up part of the space for working on
them. but also have an area for sitting with music, maybe a mini fridge, and a
general making/tinkering area minus any large power tools.

i'd like to see pictures of your space first and foremost, but im also
interested in...

-small space problem solving storage things
-bike storage techniques and specific brand recommendations
-general style points or clever add ons
-workbenches
-links to sites highlighting this sort of thing
-other stuff im forgetting.

in the past, all of the things that would fall into this category have been
housed in bedrooms, closets, porches and cardboard boxes, so im flying blind.

I first checked earlier this week. At that point and now (at least as the
RBW site opens for me) it is not a matter of few sizes of the MUSA pants on
the site, but no sizes. Had RBW kept MUSA pants on the site but in only a
few sizes, or even with a sold out note, I would have assumed, as you say,
they will be restocked soon.

As it is, MUSA pants are nowhere to be found on the site. I guess I could
have called first and asked are you selling something that is not even on
the site. But it seemed to make sense to me anyway to ask here whether
something was up before wasting their time.

Glad I amused you.

This site cracks me up sometimes. While people were speculating about the
Sterling being a Bilenky and complaining about the quality of the pictures,
I was buying it for 200 bucks. (still haven't gotten it but she's coming!)
A couple of days ago, I checked the Riv site and saw they had very few
sizes. Instead of lamenting the fact and jumping to conclusions, I emailed
Keisha who in turn said "I dunno" and brought Vince in to our conversation,
this is what he said:

Hi Geoff,

then I inquired if they were going to be tapered like the second version

2015-09-25 Thread drew

for the first time in my life, i am moving to a place with a garage. 1.5ish
car size, stand alone, all wood. i have been gifted the use of it by my
spouse, who just asks that we keep camping stuff and luggage up in the
rafters. im very excited, but also in need of some ideas and inspiration
for how to make the space great. I figured that there must be some
crossover of people who appreciate rivendells and people who appreciate a
nicely designed and set up workshop.

it'll house 4-5 bikes and i want to set up part of the space for working on
them. but also have an area for sitting with music, maybe a mini fridge,
and a general making/tinkering area minus any large power tools.

i'd like to see pictures of your space first and foremost, but im also
interested in...

-small space problem solving storage things
-bike storage techniques and specific brand recommendations
-general style points or clever add ons
-workbenches
-links to sites highlighting this sort of thing
-other stuff im forgetting.

in the past, all of the things that would fall into this category have been
housed in bedrooms, closets, porches and cardboard boxes, so im flying
blind.

[RBW] Re: Show me your Garage/Workshop/Cave/Storage Spaces

2015-09-25 Thread Geoffrey
I'll try to post a pic later. I have a friend who's bike store is pretty
small. He was smart and has the bike stands coming down from the ceiling.
I'd do something similar if I could and have a t-handle with a spring
loaded detent I could pull to remove if I didn't want it hanging from the
ceiling.

[RBW] Re: What is the best place to buy Pro 5 Vis 52 outer rings?

2015-09-25 Thread Patrick Moore
Anton and Peter: thanks for the eBay reminder. Indeed, I did see a couple
of 52s for 20 pounds with ~ 10 lb shipping -- about $47 shipped, each.

I'll archive this thread. For the moment, I've decided to get the same
ratios -- 52 X 17/19 Dingle -- with the installed 46 and separate 15/17
cogs. I found a new 17 t for $13.78 shipped; 43% of local new + tax, so the
referral helped.

[RBW] Re: Classic Bike Show + Swap Meet in Frederick MD @ Gravel & Grind, Sept 27th

2015-09-25 Thread Gravel & Grind Espresso + Bikes
Hey folks, we’re doing this swap rain or shine. If you are displaying
stuff and have an EZ up, bring it, if you don’t have one, no worries, we’ll
stick you inside the shop.

The ride after the swap won’t happen if its pouring, but if its lightly
raining it’s on, or just wet out.

[RBW] Re: FS: Odds, Ends, Bars, Bends

2015-09-25 Thread Justin August
Apologies to all involved, thought I'll update David and all parties here.
Parts are in the mail to those who bought them. The mailroom/front desk
misplaced my packages in the rush of the beginning of the school year.
Annoying but we're a small school with limited resources. I refunded
David's shipping plus 10%-ish.

I'll refund the rest if he wants even though I dropped it in the mail today
after searching high and low for it in the building.

My fault - should have hand-done it at the post office. I've learned, yet
again!

Re: [RBW] Valve Stem eating Synergy Wheels

2015-09-25 Thread Phil Bickford

>>>Hi Phil, same problem, causing tube failures? Can you explain the
electrolysis issue?

Yes, well, no tube troubles at the time. Just looked like a potential
failure. I can't say it was electrolysis, thats's just the way I explained
it to Velocity. I've had some marine experience w for here a sacrificial
piece of metal is mounted on the outside of the hull to keep dissimilar
metals from eating each other they interact and destroy the pig instead.
Sounds like Ron's got the info on metals, I don't know but to say the rim
itself was dissolvingn at a rapid rate.

Watch out on the pricing on cyclocamping.com .
The same tube I bought from Compass for $8 is priced at $11.15.

I have been very happy with my tubeless Babyshoe Pass tires. See my

reinforce the rim hole or the valve stem. Remember...if you can't fix it,

Re: [RBW] Valve Stem eating Synergy Wheels

2015-09-25 Thread Edwin W
The more I think about this, the more I think it is a small variation in hole
size. I'll bet that on the valve stem eating rims, the whole is slightly larger
than typical, and the tube gets tweaked in there. I don't think my calipers are
precise enough to tell a difference, but I'll look into it.
Has anyone tried of or heard of a valve nut on the inside of the rim?

[RBW] FS: 26 x 2.1 Schwalbe Thunder Burt Tires - PAIR - $70 shipped.

2015-09-25 Thread David Banzer
FS: 26 x 2.1 Schwalbe Thunder Burt Tires - PAIR - $70 shipped.

Picked these up this past week on this list, tried them for a ride, and
realized that Super Motos spoiled me for air volume. Thunder Burts are
great but my bike has room for a 2.35" knobby, so I'm going to look for
something larger than the TB.

$70 shipped for the pair.
Paypal Personal please.
Contact offlist if you can.
Thanks,
David

Not new, but you can sometimes get a great deal on used ones on the big
auction block. Most of my TA chainring sets were sourced that way.
