Re: [RBW] Re: Richard Sachs

2015-11-03 Thread Eric Norris
I got mine in 2002. I tracked the progress on this web page, which includes
photos that Richard took as the frame progressed:

http://www.campyonly.com/mypages/campysachs.html

As Gary said, the frame is a work of art. Almost more like a huge piece of
jewelry than a bicycle, really. I don’t ride it nearly enough.

[RBW] Re: Front Racks with Top of Fork Attachment

2015-11-03 Thread Ron Mc

On my Viner cross frame, I had to improvise, since it has no holes of any
kind. Mark's Rack with it's M6 rod bolts at the rear is the one that will
work.

I accomplished the same thing as fork crown bosses using Tubus LM-1 clamps,
and attached the front struts to Paul canti mounts with a pair of
L-brackets from McMaster.
I'm very happy with it - it's rock solid - and the only way to mount a
front rack on this bike.
I started a thread about it down the page.

I was lucky to get on Richard's list back in 2001 when his wait time was
only about 9 months and the frame price was much lower than today. I met
him at his shop in CT, where he spent a couple of hours showing me around
his museum-like workshop, taking measurements, and talking about how he
liked to work. He was just a fascinating guy. During the build, he would
send me hand drawn postcards of the progress every month or so. The frame
came right around nine months after our visit, and it was - and still is -
an incredible piece of craftsmanship and an absolutely amazing ride.

That is a real nice green, almost like a British racing green. I have a

much prefer the color choices for the Clem vs. the Clementine. Which I
guess is why I went with black.

2015-11-03 Thread Patrick Shea
Hey Ryan:

The bags arrived and look great! Are there more parts for the SQR? I didn't
get the parts that attach to the saddle. Also, there is a receipt from
Amazon for a monitor. Do you need that?

Cheers and thanks again,
Patrick

[RBW] Re: Front Racks with Top of Fork Attachment

2015-11-03 Thread dougP
I'll see if I can get a photo but a Tubus Duo mounts to the hourglass
eyelet, with the lower eye attached to the fork blade with a big P-clamp.
Not elegant & half a bubble off level but it's functional. Large Ortleibs
have plenty of ground clearance.

[RBW] Re: Anyone order a Joe?

2015-11-03 Thread Patrick D Kelly
My assumption was that the pre-orders get the cash together so they can
make the order. Since they have a "full retail" price published, I
expect/hope they'll have more frames made than just the 50. There will be
people who just want a bare frame (and I'd hope they can get one). They'll
just not get a discounted/pre-order price. It may be that riv doesn't even
need all 50 pre-orders to get the ball rolling.

In terms of ordering fewer of some sizes and more of others, I would not be
surprised if they're ordering a minimum run of each size. So, to avoid the
problem of smaller frames costing a lot more than medium frames, they just
order the same number and plan to take longer to sell them.

By that method (overloading your cart with >10 in every size), it looks

 Zero - 46cm
 2 - 51cm
 6 - 55cm
 3 - 58cm
 1 - 62cm

If they really need to limit the first run to 50 (for whatever reason),
it seems they'd be a lot better off building a lot fewer of the tiny ones,
and a lot more of the medium sized ones.

 Like maybe

 46cm - 3
 51cm - 8
 55cm - 20
 58cm - 12
 62cm - 7

[RBW] Portland Nov 4 to the 14th

2015-11-03 Thread MTR
Hey Owners Bunch, I'll be up in Portland living off my Sam Hillborne from
Wednesday November 4 to Saturday November 14th.

I've never been there before and I wondering in any folks on the list would
want to go for a day ride or an overnight bikecamping trip, get a beer or
some coffee, host me for a night or two, or whatever.

I have some friends I'm going to visit, but few definite plans at the
moment and there is nothing better than getting out with someone with local
knowledge.

A little about me, I'm 30, easy going, self sufficient, and like mixed
terrain rides on the slightly mellower side of things.

Got a free day, or morning or afternoon and want to go ride bikes, get at
me.

Morgan
