Thats what the instructions say.
But I greased mine so heavily, that upon first removal and remounting of the

[RBW] Re: Seeking advice: How to clean bartape off my Albatross bars

2016-05-19 Thread bing.grosbeak
Naptha / white gas / camp fuel / "coleman fuel" is a miracle-worker for
removing adhesive residue. I've found that most other solvents just
require more elbow grease. It's also pretty safe on paints and plastics,
so a good alternative to harsher solvents when you have to clean sticky
stuff off of those types of surfaces.

[RBW] 110 bcd Square Taper Cranksets – TA, Ritchey, XC Pro, more (cross-post)

2016-05-19 Thread Greg J
Sorry for the cross-post from the iBob list, but I think this should be of
interest to this group also

I don’t know how I accumulated these over the years, but I don’t see that I
will use them anytime soon, so they’re up for grabs.

TA Carmina (172.5) – 48/38 “Zephyr” matched rings in very good (7.5/10)
condition. I also have 2x 34T rings, but they are black and called
“Syrius.” According to Peter White, the 34T should mix n match with the
Zephyr 48T. $100 shipped with 48/38. If you want the 34T, add $25 for the
one with less use, or $15 for the more used one.

Sugino Alpina (170) – 48/34 matched rings in very good condition (8.5/10).
Also known as the Cospea, I think. Shows some use, but still very nice. $90
shipped.

Ritchey Logic (175) – arms and crank bolts/spacers and 24T only. The logos
still look good (6.5/10). $55 shipped.

Suntour XC Pro (175) – currently set up as 50/38 (Specialized and Sugino
rings) but is drilled for a 74bcd triple inner. In good condition (5/10).
$50 shipped.

Shimano Deore (170) triple – 46/36/24 rings. This is the MT80 model, in
good condition, with lots of life left (5/10). $40 shipped.

Detailed pics can be found here:
http://s102.photobucket.com/user/gregkjung/library/110%20bcd%20Cranksets%20for%20Sale

I also have lots of square taper bb's (Phils, Ritchey, UN-xx), but I need
to take inventory first.

thanks, Greg

In my attempt to make good on a desire to read more ride reports my eyes

Hi Jon,

I'm really glad you enjoyed the post, it means a lot. I know ride reports

reports into the future. I particularly enjoy the images you and Deacon

discontinued it, what a bummer!

[RBW] Another Clementine build

2016-05-19 Thread Tom Harrop
Hi all,

Well it took a while, but I finally got my wife's Clementine finished just
after Christmas, and she finally got around to photographing it a couple of
weeks ago!

https://flic.kr/s/aHskAkjmbt

Rivendell didn't fool us with their "budget bike" hyperbole–we went with a
fancy build...

If anyone's wondering, it's the 52 cm frame with 650b tyres. The Gilles
Berthoud 60x700C fenders were a nice fit after some bending. I'm also happy
with the way the Nitto Campee front rack (700C version) worked out with the
fat 650b tyres. I couldn't mount it on my Bombadil with 60x622 mm Big
Apples.

The features Riv packed into this frame are amazing, I just wish they made
a 64 + cm size for me.

I've got an older pair of blue MUSA pants in medium. These are slightly

I'm hoping to try a pair of those Compass knickers and am selling these to

[RBW] Re: How to keep your bike from getting stolen.

2016-05-19 Thread Will
I have skepticsim for this bike rag report. My pitlocks are well
engineered. I expect them to last for a very long time. The install
instructions tell you not to over-tighten the lock bolt. I suppose if you
crank it down you could damage the skewer threads.

I've had no trouble what-so-ever. What I like about the system is you get
significant protection for no weight penalty. The pitlocks weigh less than
the QR skewers they replace.

No problems with seat post.

[RBW] Re: How to keep your bike from getting stolen.

2016-05-19 Thread Mark Reimer
I lock my Atlantis up in some fairly questionable areas, but always for as
short a time as I can manage - ie: getting a haircut, running in for
groceries or a restaurant maybe.

First thing I do is try to lock it in an area with a lot of foot traffic or
exposure. Sure that may not stop some thieves, but I'm sure it at least
makes them stop and think. I lock my frame/rear wheel with the "Sheldon
method", killing two birds with one stone, using a Kryptonite mini-U lock.
Then I run a thick cable around the front wheel, tied into the u-lock in
the back. Sometimes I'll run a second cable through my saddle as well. I've
never had anything stolen yet, knock on wood.
