[RBW] FS: Rivendell Brand V BoxyBarBag

2016-10-07 Thread adam leibow
Hello,
My account is overdrafted (thanks for sharing) so I need to sell something.
This cool vegan bag is first to go. It attaches sans rack or decaleur -
directly to the bars and brake hoods. Please note: THIS IS A DROP BAR BAG
ONLY. I have never seen it used with another type of bar, and it might be
possible, but unless you are willing to do some light to moderate
modifications, it is drop-bar-only.

The condition is pretty good. It's obviously not brand new but everything
works and looks good. $70 shipped takes it or local pickup in ocean beach
SF is cool, too, and i will knock ten bucks off the price for that.

Thanks for looking!

Adam. please email me at adam (at) lightvision (dot) net

[RBW] Sam fender clearance

2016-10-07 Thread pscottm
I tried VO 50mm snakeskins on my 62cm Sam w 38mm Marathons but the sidepulls
caused a low spot in the fender line so I decided to run without them. Same
fenders work great on an Ocean Air Rambler w Paul Racers.

What Tim suggests seems reasonable though it might be tiwan lugged and to the
rodeo as the Sam is to the Hilson. If it is tiged then it sounds a lot like a
black mountain cycles road frame.

If you go to the hardware store and buy these type of spade connectors I
have the crimper for them and you can use it. I live on Oakland ave. If you
have a hard time finding the non-insulated ones you can just buy the
insulated and pull the connector out and use heat shrink.

Jon - good to know. that was my backup plan actually, good to know it
worked. sounds like the concern with that is either breaking the spade or
not getting it tight enough (which sounds like some people will solder in

Mine were R559 levers, too. Didn't touch fender when braking though. But
dictated fender height, which wasn't high enough for my comfort level. I
think with 38's would have plenty of clearance.

Re: [RBW] Re: ROADINI tease on the BLUG

2016-10-07 Thread Tim Gavin
My prediction for the Leo Roadini is a bike with similar dimensions to the
Roadeo, but using less-expensive TIG construction and Silver tubing.

Perhaps it will be a bit more relaxed, resulting in geometry between a
Roadeo and a Sam H.

The Roadeo already clears a 700 x 38 tire under medium-reach brakes (47-57
mm), which is pretty generous for a road-oriented bike (in my opinion).
Mine rides great on 700 x 32 Compass Stampede Pass tires, with room for
fenders (if I want them).

Sounds like a great bike: a pavement-oriented road/sport-touring bike at a
Clem pricepoint (assuming). A Surly Pacer with Riv design, more or less.
Something like that would be a great bike for many of the riders I know
currently on aluminum major-manufacturer road bikes. If a fraction of
those folks buy a Leo Roadini, it should be a success for Rivendell.

[RBW] Sam fender clearance

My Sam has P45s over Little Big Bens 38s.With 559 side pulls.
I can wiggle the wheel out without deflating the Tires but the fender moves
when I squeeze the brakes. The side pulls dictate the fenderline.
Not much room. The front is tighter than the rear.

When the tires were announced, they were simply called Compass 26"×1.5". The
toponymic came later, to bring them into line with the rest of the line. The
1.75" got christened "Slumgullion Pass" at the same time; they're gone, now. I
still have a pair, and enjoy them.

Thanks Rene, I don't make it to the other side of the bay much and the non
stop 24/7 traffic we have these days might prevent me from doing so soon,
unless there's a ride in the mix ;). But i'll keep you posted if I can work
something out, appreciate the offer.

Re: [RBW] Re: Velocity Dyad/Aerohead vs Atlas

2016-10-07 Thread Patrick Moore
I used to ride 2" tires on 19 mm outside width rims, and this off road; no
problems as long as you kept the pressure to ~ 30 lb. In the '90s, high end
mountain bike rims were often sub 20 mm wide. So 38 mm tires on 23 mm rims
is perfectly safe.

[RBW] Re: kalloy dirt drop stems...

2016-10-07 Thread Mark Reimer
I've been running a cheapo Kalloy single-bolt seat post on my Atlantis for
3 years. About 7,000km later, much of that off road, it hasn't slipped once
and is doing just fine.

Nitto products are beautiful and well made. Kalloy isn't quite so pretty,
but in my experience hold up well.

Re: [RBW] Re: Velocity Dyad/Aerohead vs Atlas

2016-10-07 Thread Mark Reimer
I wouldn't worry about rolling the tires off the rims. My Atlantis has
Dyad's and I've ridden up to 2.25 tires and pretty low pressure, never had
an issue. Currently running 38mm Barlow Pass tires, desperately trying to
wear them out so I can justify the 44mm tires :)

I've also run similar tire setups on HPlusSon TB14 (basically a 23mm wide
box section rim) and Archetype rims, never rolled a tire. Even on Mavic
Open Pro rims I have had good luck running 32 Challenge Grifo tires for CX
races, down to 28 psi, and never rolled a tire.

What frame are you building up??

[RBW] Sam fender clearance

2016-10-07 Thread Surlyprof
I have a canti-Sam and found that it dits 45 Smart Sams with fairly tight
clearances at the chainstays. They even rubbed when I had a double kickstand.
Fendered, I can fit 40 Mondials and Barlow Passes easily. I can't imagine
getting 50's on that bike. There was an entry on the blug of a black Sam with
42 Rock n Roads and fenders. They had to cut the front fender to fit the
tires.

[RBW] Re: [BOB] Re: Compass McClure Pass tire height and width?

2016-10-07 Thread EGNolan
Patrick, Joe,
I can't comment on the McClure height/width for you. It looks like since
they recently came out with their full version of a 1.8 they're
discontinuing the Slumgullion (26 x 1.75), the previous pasela treaded
Compasss tire. My guess is they're filling in their lineup with this one in
the 1.5 range until they've sold enough to make the mold worth it.

Best,
Eric

[RBW] Sam fender clearance

Ian,

I've had SKS p50 fenders on 60cm and 62cm Sam frames over 38mm tires (little
Ben) and it worked great both times with room to spare. Depending on the brand
of fender, I would feel comfortable with 52mm. Good luck!

[RBW] Sam fender clearance

2016-10-07 Thread Ian Wilder
I'm sure this is something that's been touched on before, but does anyone have
a read on Sidepull Sam's max fender clearance. Plan on running Barlow Pass's
under a 45mm or 52mm on Atlas rims with Paul Racer brakes. Want to have wiggle
room for other tires so would love to be able to fit the 52's.

Thanks!

Re: [RBW] Re: VO vs Berthoud fenders

2016-10-07 Thread Max
For those who tried multiple models of fenders: Which yield the greatest
tire clearance for a given outer fender diameter? Specifically, I'm looking
for something that does better than the Honjos I'm now running – fluted,
clearing 37 mm tires fine, but not 40/42 mm that I'd like to try. It's
clear I could use non-fluted type of fender, but what about the
strut-fender attachment bolts that eat up 5+ mm on the inside surface?

TIA!
