I cannot believe I missed this. I actually asked Grant about a 64 cm Clem-L
last winter after building up my wife's normally sized Clem. Grant said
they had considered it, sent me the plans for it, and told me to keep an
eye on the Blug. I missed the announcement and I see they're gone already.

Ah well, I snost, I lost... looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

[RBW] Re: Friction shifting 10 cogs; Road BB7 disc brakes with Yokuzuna

2017-01-21 Thread Bill in Roswell GA
Patrick, I loved the responsiveness of interrupter levers, but my canti
brake levers felt mushy and less responsive. Then I changed handlebars, was
in a bit of a rush and didn't want to take time to re-install the
interrupters. Behold, the brake levers felt alive and responsive, only
slightly less than the interrupter levers. So, in my situation on the CX
bike, it wasn't so much the cable/housing as it was removing the
interrupters.

However, the top grades of compressionless brake housing do seem to stay
responsive longer than the mid-grades. One other thing you may want to
consider at some point, is changing rotors. I thought the TRP rotor that
came with Spykes/Spyres was quite good. I banged up the front rotor on a
rock and at the urging of the local master tech, got a Shimano ICE rotor.
Doing so definitely increased the braking power - more slow down for less
lever pull. As it was on the front I probably noticed the difference more
than I would on the rear.

Cheers,
Bill in Roswell, GA

I'm starting to fret about this, now that I've had some time to dwell on

To add some Riv content, here are some photos from one of those roads that

Photos (taken approximately here: 44.945699, -109.782393 ) are in WY, but
you can't get there without riding through MT. How would that work? On
such a quiet stretch of road, even at the height of tourist season, I can't
imagine it would be worthwhile for the state of MT to set up a
Mississippi-style trap to nab you as you cross the border - or would it?

[RBW] Montana Legislator proposed banning bicycles on all two lane roads that don't have a shoulder

2017-01-21 Thread iamkeith
That hits way too close to home. Like an hour's drive from where i am now, and
where i spent a good quarter of my life, close. I do a group tour every other
year or so, that often criss-crosses in and out of montana. I suspect the bill
wont go anywhere for obvious legal and federal funding reasons, but it sadly
points out the type of ignorance we still deal with. Once, at a pre-tour
safety meeting, one of our own state troopers (wyoming) gave a talk. He said
that, in preparation, he "read the rules" and had been surprised to learn that
cyclists have the same priveleges and are subject to the same laws as motorists.

Great! Can't wait for more. I've been in dire need of mental and/or
intellectual and/or comedic distractions the last few days. SNL has been
particulaly helpful. Happened across this clip yesterday, which might help
explain the rules to those unfamiliar with the game. Good for a laugh, if
nothing else. (Not political, but not for those easily offended -fyi.)

Re: [RBW] Re: ISO: Planet Bike strut-compatible QRs

2017-01-21 Thread Patrick Moore
Takashi: that's very kind of you, but the problem with mounting near the
dropout is that the caliper blocks rearward access to the fender strut.
I've used the PB tubular braces that put the attachment point some 2.5"
outward from the dropout, and even then had to bend the stay to clear the
caliper adjusting knob.

 I do appreciate the offer.

[RBW] Montana Legislator proposed banning bicycles on all two lane roads that don't have a shoulder

2017-01-21 Thread GAJett
Anyone planning a bicycling trip to Montana anytime soon?

http://lastbestnews.com/site/2017/01/bill-would-ban-bicyclists-from-most-2-lane-roads-in-state/

This would place Montana bicycling law at variance with laws in 49 other
states and "violate" a VERY long-standing legal custom codifying bicycles
as having the same rights and responsibilities as drivers of motor vehicles.
Cheers,
GAJett

Re: [RBW] Re: Albastache more comfortable than the original road Moustache?

2017-01-21 Thread masmojo
Rode my XO-1 with Moustache bars for 20+ years and as much as I loved them,
they were never perfect. I always wished they were a little wider & the curve a
little less dramatic (especially close to the stem). The Albastache solves
both of these issirs, so to me it's about a close to perfect as possible. My
main challenge now is to not put them on every bike I own. Personally, I no
longer have a use for the original moustache, so complete is the refinement
that it renders the original obsolete.
Not sure how that helps you on you application though.
