[RBW] Re: Bar bag for the Riv Bullmoose bar?

2017-05-20 Thread Zach Duval
Could anyone post a picture of their preferred bag set up on the Bullmoose bars?

I'm leaning toward the Swift Bandito or small Zeitgeist, though I may need to
reroute the cables (I didn't set them up with much foresight, unfortunately).

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Re: [RBW] Re: Saddlesack questions

2017-05-20 Thread Patrick Moore
Aha, thanks. I missed the numbers.

So mine is a Large. A pair of RPs are claimed to have 2441 ci -- so the L
SS has 80% of volume and better, since I'm never afraid to stuff, stuff,
and stuff some more.

Perhaps it's packing method? With panniers, I just drop things in until
it's all filled up, haul out the neck, and fill some more. What're your
(2nd p plural genitive; "all'y'all's) "get more in" packing methods?

The SS works better with the Dahon than saddlebags, since it doesn't
require a rack bolted to the frame.

[RBW] Saddlesack questions

2017-05-20 Thread Patrick Moore
I can't find the dimensions or volume of the M and Large on the latest Riv
Saddlesack pages. My new-to-me-and-I-hope-Large measures (along the
stiffened bottom) 18 X 12, and the height at highest, near dowel, is about
8".

The reason I ask is that I'm disappointed in the volume; I seem to recall
getting as much groceries into the Medium I owned a few years ago, as I can
into this Large.

Can someone tell me the area of their Large's bottom, and the height from
bottom to top at dowel position?

>From an earlier description on the site, the L was claimed to have a volume
that compares very favorable to a pair of Ortlieb Roller Packers -- forget
numbers; but damned if I can fit into my I-hope-Large nearly what I can get
into a pair of RPs. Heck, with the neck of one RP extended, I can carry
more than in this Saddlesack.

Thanks.

In other news, a $19.80 shipped bolt-to-the-seatpost Diamond Back rack,
clamped to the Hon Solo's seatpost, supports the Saddlesack very well.
Note: I *DO* have the rack low enough that it doesn't compromise the usable
height of the bag. I deliberately positioned the rack low enough that much
of the load's weight is carried by the straps and saddle loops.

Photos to come, once I swap out the Moustache bar for a very kindly donated
B 135, which God willing will arrive on Monday.

But tell me about the bottom area and the height of the Large Saddlesack.

[RBW] New Appaloosa

2017-05-20 Thread Andrew Huston
Ash the bars are the Map Ahearne. Nice amount of sweep and a comfortable wrist
angle for me. I'm finding with every ride that it will likely do all of the
things I need it to do, occasional commute, tour, light trail duty, etc. my
Quickbeam isn't long for my garage at this rate. I love the freedom to do a
little of everything on one bike. It begs that I don't wear anything too
spandexy, slow down, forget my worries and just ride. I've been through a lot
of bikes and this one is staying. Now to accessorize!

[RBW] Re: New Appaloosa

2017-05-20 Thread REC
I hope you enjoy may happy hours on the bike. I got mine a month ago and
feel the same.

William R. (Bill in Westchester NY) said "So happy am I with it, it has
become my only bike." There's another thread on RBW that discussed how
many is the optimum number of bikes. I agree with Bill--perhaps just one
and it's the Appaloosa.

Happy biking!

[RBW] New Appaloosa

2017-05-20 Thread William R.
Very nice Andrew! You will enjoy it. I've been riding mine for well over a year
now. So happy am I with it, it has become my only bike. I've really gotten in
tune to it and it's ride characteristics. It cruises and flows. I love the way
I can "pump and bump" it around obstacles real and imagined. It really flies!
