[RBW] Re: 10x200 update. An eleventh bike, and blast(s) from the past

2017-09-18 Thread Bill Lindsay
Ann L declared a need for a handlebar bag like mine.

The brand is Team Dream. There's a cute sewn on label on the front that
also says "MOKUYOBI" which may be the model (?). The selection of stuff on
the teamdreambicyclingteam website is nowhere near as great as the
selection at the Cub House storefront. When I chatted with one of the very
nice, bearded, twenty-somethings at the Cub House, he indicated that they
come up with ideas and the sewers make them. It sounds like a pretty rapid
fire operation where everything is kind of small run, make it sell it go
for a ride, have some cold brew coffee and come up with the next idea. It
made me want to live in South Pasadena and go visit every couple weeks to
see whats new. I get the vibe that for a lot of things there will not be
enough inventory to warrant even bothering to put it on the website. There
were only two bags that were brown with rainbow, and I bought one. There
were five or six that were more like teal with rainbow, exactly like mine
except the dark brown bottom of the bag in my photo is a teal color.

The handlebar bag that you can easily buy online, that is ALSO handmade in
Los Angeles, and is also stocked at the Cub House is the Bar Bag by ORNOT.

https://www.ornotbike.com/collections/accessories

The MOKUYOBI bag was a lot less expensive ($50 vs $78), and is a bit larger
in the main compartment, and has no side pockets. If you want to buy a bag
just like mine, I recommend you call them at (626)755-3003 and ask them if
they can sell you one. Have them text you a phone pic.

Re: [RBW] Re: Silver Tubing Info

2017-09-18 Thread Lee Legrand
Hi John,

I assume the UTS is ultimate tension strength or stress. I would think the
bicycle builder or framer would want it to be less than 70ksi (yield
strength limit). Once stress exceed the yield strength, it will basically
begin to fail due to buckling or plastic hinge effects happen on the
frame. Deformation in the steel is plastic instead of elastic once it
exceeds yield.

Or one has a long torso and short legs. I am 6 feet tall and have a 83 PBH
(legs from somebody who is 5'9", torso from somebody who is 6'3") and I am
fat. On some bikes, even Rivendells with top tubes on the long side,
sometimes I just need that little bit extra. Almost all of my saddles are
Brooks, and they tend to have less adjustment range than most. Decades ago,
I usually rode a frame that was "too large" for me with a really long stem
- I have a 140 mm Cinelli stem on one of my bikes. I now have a couple of
Nitto lugged seatposts - more comfortable than a long stem and less flex in
the steering. Now that VO has ruined their two-bolt setback seatpost -
Nitto is the only way to go.

and genesee riverway trail for ride ideas. All of those trails can be
accessed from the canal trail and we have some free local bike maps
available if that's easiest.

For fly fishing, I would take a ride down to the local Orvis shop for the
best/closest spots. You can ride there via the canal path and a little
offshoot called the "pittsford railroad loop"

Not sure how much of a purist you are, but there is plenty of panfish and
bass fishing in the canalif you travel a little south there are some
really nice cold water streams. Oatka Creek and Spring Brook to name a
couple.

[RBW] Re: Fender Brands (Besides SKS) That Work On A Sam

2017-09-18 Thread RonaTD
The rear brake bolt is tangential to the tire diameter, so the brake-tire
distance increases as the brake gets farther away from the brake bridge. The
front brake bolt, because of the fork offset, is not tangential, and the
brake-tire distance gets smaller as the brake gets farther forward of the fork
crown. Fork crowns are thicker than brake bridges, so there is less brake-tire
clearance in front than in back. The difference is non-trivial. A constucteur
tasked with building a fork for a bike that will have dual-pivot brakes would
do well to angle the bottom of the steerer and fork crown and drill the brake
bolt hole such that it is tangential to the tire circumference.

I'm headed up to Rochester next weekend for a wedding. My wife is in the

ride? Any place to pull over and fly fish? I think our hotel is near the Erie
Canal in Greece--how's that? Thanks in advance.
