[RBW] Re: ISO: Small, tubular bar bag --- FOUND!

2017-11-16 Thread Christopher Murray
Patrick,

I have a small saddle/handlebar bag made by Banzer. It is very similar to the
xs Sackville bag.

https://www.rivbike.com/collections/bags/products/sackville-saddlesack-xsmall-dark-brown

I know you said you found something and I’m not sure this would work but it’s
yours if you want it. It is missing the straps but they should be pretty simple
to replace. Let me know if you are interested.

Cheers,
Chris

[RBW] FS: Shimano XTR Brake levers BL-M970 NIB NOS

2017-11-16 Thread Christopher Murray
Hello,

I have a pair of brand new Shimano XTR BL-M970 v-brake levers. They are new in
the box and are unused. I bought them for a project that never happened. The
box is a little beat up but the levers are in new condition. The cables are in
the box. I’ve been sitting on these for almost 10 years. I paid $120 and would
like to get that for them. So $120 shipped conus. These sell for twice that
amount on the ‘bay.

Cheers,
Chris

Re: [RBW] Re: Campagnolo on a Sam/Homer?

2017-11-16 Thread Tim Gavin
I agree that a "130 OLD" crank with a "135 OLD" hub usually ends with a
chainline that is less than optimal.

I also agree that it isn't a show-stopper, just something to be aware of.
It's also something that can usually be mitigated with bottom bracket
spacers or just a different bottom bracket.

Most current disc road and cyclocross frames come with this mismatch from
the factory; chain rub comes free. I think they just decided that the
narrower 10 and 11 speed chains mitigate the chainline difference, and just
called it good enough.
Specialized tried to address this with its proprietary (of course!) SCS
system.
http://southernwheelworks.com/2016/10/17/specialized-scs-wheels-issues-solutions/
It was technically correct, but was roundly criticized because it created a
special hub standard that inhibited wheel swaps.

But we aspire to "just right" for our "just ride", so I brought it up.

[RBW] FS: Betty Foy Fork - 295mm steerer

2017-11-16 Thread David B
I picked this up very recently because I was going to swap out the original
fork on my Redwood. I wanted rack mounts and a little more clearance when I
was going to do a 700c build around ~40mm tires.
This was one of the forks that was available before the Rosco Bubbe project
started. Steerer tube is really long, it would fit on my 65cm Redwood.
So, for sale...

Rivendell Betty Foy Fork
Painted Betty blue with red accents on fork crown.
~295mm steerer tube length - use on a tall frame or steerer could be cut
and run threadless
Specs say it fits a 40mm tire
Specs show 62mm rake - this would result in a low(ish) trail if used on a
road bike with 73degree head tube.
Upper/mid eyelets for racks
Double eyelets at ends

Can take photos.
Asking what I paid. $200 plus shipping.
Contact offlist if you can if interested.
Thanks,
David

Re: [RBW] Re: "We’ll have “classic” single speed frames again...."

2017-11-16 Thread lconley
The idea was to increase the angle of the drive side spokes and reduce the
necessary tension. It did, but barely, it really did not result in a
stronger wheel, but they sure are unique. I had a friend in the seventies
who had them and I always wanted a pair. I ran across these on E-bay a few
years back and bought them in a weak moment. Probably paid way too much,
but less than the cost of a single Phil Wood cassette.

Ooops missed org post. Those are mighty pretty hubs

*NOS Campagnolo Record Hi-Lo Hubs. They made a couple of runs of these in
the seventies. Fairly rare. The rear is a wide six at present, I have a new
5 speed Campy axle and a variety of Campy axle spacers that I will use,*

I had to have my rear wheel redished and I'm using a Velo-orange
threadless bottom bracket(stronglight BB and 93 cranks threads were
toasted). Point is older record hubs will work just fine for a single-speed
application

those look like Campy hi-lo flange Record hubs. Very pretty. I wonder what
the functional reason is for the hi-lo rear hub.

I use record low flange 36-hole with a 126 OL on my PX-10 (horizontal
dropouts) which is now a single-speed with some original French parts ,
some Japanese , a little of this, a little of that, ratty white paint. .
Sure, I wouldn't mind a QB or SO from Riv ...or this new iteration, but I

due respect to RBW.
