[RBW] Quick FAQ? What’s the rear spacing on the Atlantis?

My Google-fu is off and I can’t find the answer to this definitively. Is it
135? 132.5? And has it changed through the years?

Re: [RBW] Re: Have a Sub 20lb Roadeo?

2018-01-27 Thread lum gim fong
Some components have a function that pays their way in their weight.

For instance, I simply must have a Flyer saddle. 865g.
Worth every gram to me.

Also, 42mm, low pressur, supple tires for safety. Sure they are heavier than
23mm, but for safety, I don’t want to ride any narrower than 42.
Anything narrower than 32mm where I ride gets caught in road cracks and I have
snagged tires and crashed. Broke my arm once. So 19-28mm tires are not worth
the weight savings for me.
I need to roll over stuff and not get The front tire entangled and throwing me
to the ground.

Re: [RBW] Re: Have a Sub 20lb Roadeo?

2018-01-27 Thread Steve Palincsar

  Ritchey wcs carbon neoclassic 213gr

No doubt the Compass bars are fine, and I wouldn't call them heavy,
but I do think there are a lot more sub 300gr bars on the market in
31.8 than 26.0 or 25.4 (I doubt that the Ritchey products are
particularly unique). Also clearly there are lighter bars on the
market (in 31.8) than the Compass "superlight" options.
If one wants to minimize the weight of a Roadeo frame, fork, stem and
bars I believe that choosing the threadles fork option would be the
way to go. Ready availability of lighter bar options plays a part in that.
No doubt readily available threadles stems are also lighter than quill
options. E.g. a 110mm Nitto pearl is ~345gr and a 120mm Ritchey wcs
220 stem only weighs ~140gr. But the threadless stem needs to be
clamped to a length of steerer tube thats not there with a quill stem
setup, and I don't know how much that hunk of tube adds.

On the other hand I have an old Synchros 26.0 quill stem and Ritchey
bar that weigh 437gr combined. That's about 197gr (or about .43Lb)
less than the Nitto Pearl stem and Compass superlight bar combined. So
I'm not convinced that quill setups can't be as light at threadless,
but I am convinced that sticking to whats sold all over the place they
aren't.

However, it is worth mentioning that when it comes to handlebars, the
shape is at least as important as the weight and should factor heavily
in the choice.   The wrong bar is going to hold you back a lot more than
the weight differential would do.

Not sure what you mean by "lightweight bars" but the Compass Maes
Parallel and Randonneur handlebars are available in 25.4 diameter in
"superlight" versions that are under 300 grams; they can be used with
26.0 diameter stems with shims.   The bars also available in 31.8 diameter.

If your going to be a weight watcher going with threadles does make sense.

I saw this bike in the Clem thread. Very nice. I noticed that you can even
get a kid seat that works with these racks. I had to pick up my son from
his cartooning class last night, grabbed the bike in this thread, planning
to walk with him the few blocks home. But then I had him hop on the rack
facing backward and we pedaled home that way, very common transport in
China, India. I would not do it with regularity or for any real distance,
but worked great in a pinch. He's 8 and maybe 50 or 60 pounds. (Not
endorsed by RBW! Please don't try this with your own 8yr old 60-pounder!)

Hi all: I'm hoping to cut down the clutter in my garage by moving some items I
just don't seem to use. All prices are PLUS shipping, the price of which will
depend on how you want it sent and where to. Paypal (no fees) will work or you
can snail a check. (My other hobby is fountain pens so I'm happy to start
snailing). Pictures of these on my Flickr page, link below (Bruce 841).

Set of 26" wheels, made by Rich at H.O.W. Velocity Dyad rims, 28s with DB
stainless spokes on Phil hubs. The rear hub is for freewheel. (I have some if
you need. email me) I just never used these much. I prefer the stock Arraya
that came on the Ram, so I just rebuilt them with new hubs and can sell these.
$375/set. That's like buying the rear hub alone and getting the rest for free.

Set of 650B wheels. Nexave 36s hubs, SG stainless spokes, Sun rims. The rims
are a hair big. Fabric bead tires go on fine. A Pascenti 38mm Pari-Moto is
pictured. The rear is cross 4 drive side, cross 3 non drive Front is cross 3.
Solid rims, okay hubs. Almost zero miles. Shimano standard cassette hub.
$150/set

Front 26" road wheel. Deore LX hub 36s, cross 3. Mavic 317 rim. Very nice and
durable wheel. $50

Rivendell "Hupe". Mounts to your seat stays if they are not too fat and holds
a bag up off your back tire. Originally dipped in plastic, that has cracked and
gone. You could wrap with Newbaum tape or other, depending on your stay
diameter. $20

Some of the other stuff there is still around. Ask if interested.

Thanks

Isn't it still true that you can save 1/2 pound with a threadless steerer

[RBW] WTB: Nitto 32F, with front tab!

2018-01-27 Thread HKett
Hi all,

I'm looking for a Nitto 32F mini-front rack, but I'd love one with the
front light mount tab. It seems the newly produced ones no longer have this
feature.

If you have one you're looking to move along please message me!

Thanks!

Re: [RBW] Tektro R559 vs. Dia-Compe 750 centerpulls.

2018-01-27 Thread Philip Kim
If you only need 65mm brake reach the centerbolt Paul Racers are great, the
brazeon versions are even better.

The tekto 559s with koolstop worked great for use with flat bar brake levers,
but didn't feel great with road brake levers.

Not a fan of the dia compe 750s, though they look the best.

[RBW] Re: FS: Brooks Cambium C-17 slate, as new

2018-01-27 Thread Ty Smith
Just an endorsement of the C17. This is a great deal!

I have two of them, but the carved with the cutout. I have been a
tradition B17 guy for years but started having some middle-aged male issues
so tried one out. I found it unbelievably comfortable right out of the box.
I know Neil is selling the traditional model, but the way the rubber acts
as a shock absorber should transfer across to the non-carved model as well.

Aesthetically, I do still prefer the leather B17, but for comfort the C17
is it for me. Another nice bonus is that you do not need to cover them in
the rain. One is on my rando bike and the other is on my Brompton.

Was it a 130 or 135 spacing? I emailed Velocity last year and they told me

I agree with OP's observations ... very solid rack, very flexible mounting

A agree with the OP's observations regarding the Clem rack ... very solid,
very flexible installation options. I thought you might want to see what
the Pletscher EasyFit basket looks like on the Clem rack. It's pretty

[RBW] Re: My trials and tribulations with upright bars

2018-01-27 Thread Larry Charlton
I'm struggling similarly. I set up a prototype Appaloosa last spring and
rode the past season with Albastache bars. But I always felt like I was
"in-between" comfort locations. When sitting upright I found myself
holding onto the very end of the bars, often actually holding the bar-end
shifter in the palm of my hand and wishing there was another couple inches
to grab onto. But when I stretched out I found the "hooks" of the
Albastache to be too close. So I've been sitting here most of the winter
debating whether to go to something like a Bosco to get the bars closer to
me or just install some drop bar. Still can't decide...
