[RBW] Re: New vs. old Homer geometry, ride characteristics

2019-11-23 Thread M Talley
I found this thread very helpful. Thanks Jason for asking. I have wondered
the same thing. The input from both Toshi and Luis have helped me to a
better understanding of the differences in ride qualities.

I'm also curious about how and when the long stay trend began. Is there
blog entry? I remember something about a Surly Big Dummy used for cargo
runs about the time some experimental builds.
Cheers,

Prices do not include shipping.

Alex DM18 650B wheelset, take off, less than 100 miles. These have the cool
colored spoke nipples. 100/135, 8-10sp. Similar to these wheels on Riv for
$310, but with different hubs (marked CLEM). $145.

Schwalbe G-One Speed, 650B x 60. Less than 100 miles. $95 pair.

55cm Heat-treated Albatross bars, low mileage, VGC. $62.

As is the custom, please contact me off-list. Thank you.

Re: [RBW] All Rounder on ebay

2019-11-23 Thread Patrick Moore
I'm certainly no pricing expert, but that looks to me like a very good
deal, given first the cost of current Rivs and, second, the high prices
XO-1s command in the used market. IMO, this is a much better bike than an
XO-1, nice as those are.

I have the Monarch, the VPs, and the older style grip king. Out of the 3 I

locked in on. If you're worried about tearing up your shoes you could take
out the pins and I think they'd still be very supportive. If you're curious

[RBW] MKS Grip King Monarch Pedals

2019-11-23 Thread John Bokman
Curious if anyone has the newer of the Grip Kings: the "Monarch". I've been
riding VP Vice for a few years after weaning myself off Speedplay Frogs,
and am rather annoyed at chewing up my shoes from the sharp pins. Also
don't feel I need the width of the VPs. Always looking for ways to get Riv
some money, I thought I might try these. However, I'm also curious about
the MKS Allways pedalsI'd prefer a low stack height, so VPs look to be
the winner in that category

For all Gus/Susie orderers, you can always pay to have the frame driven over to
D for paint from Rick Stefani. The only lug cutouts for cream are the seatlug
on both and fork crown on Gus..the price for a top quality MUSA paint job

2019-11-23 Thread maxcr
Just pulled the trigger on a small blue Susie for my wife. Earlier this year I
got her a Jones for her birthday but the 29ers make the bike feel too big to
handle for her so we’re going to sell that one in favor of the hillibike. My
thought process is that she should have a better bike than I do to encourage us
to go out riding together more often. We’re building it through James at Analog
Cycles - the idea is to turn it into a do everything bike that she can use in
the city and out in the trails. Im very excited to see it in person once built.

I rode a proto Gus when I was out in CA earlier in the year and it was amazing.
Comfortable, stable, beautiful... I’m jealous but can’t justify getting a Gus
for me when I have an awesome Hunqa which I don’t get to ride as much as I
would want.

[RBW] Another dog-biking question; and an off-topic computer question if you'll indulge me.

2019-11-23 Thread Patrick Moore
A. I've used the [fatuously named but well designed] Walky Dog system as
well as a leash with waist belt system to "run" my dog while riding a bike.
The WD works best because it holds the leash away from the pedals and the
wheels. Perry still almost managed to get himself run over once by trying
to dive under the bottom bracket, so I've shortened the leash as much as
practical.

The WD requires you to attach a clunky clamp to the bike; I clamp it to the
Dahon's seatpost.

The waist-attached leash lets me use other bikes, which I prefer, but it
neither holds the leash away from the bike, nor does it prevent Perry from
pulling and rotating the waist belt counterclockwise until it's
uncomfortable and until he's dangerously close to the front wheel -- yep,
he almost got his neck broken by trying to dive in front of the front wheel.

I've shortened this leash too, so there's less danger of getting ahead of
the bike, but it would help a great deal of there were some way of:

1. holding the least away from my waist and the bike;

2. or at least, preventing the belt from rotating.

Any ideas? Suggestions and useful comments welcome.

B. Bike content: My professional work allows me to buy Rivendellian sorts
of stuff.

I have a (2014, hotrodded) MacBook Pro for work hooked to a 42" gaming
quality screen. I use current Word for Mac for my professional work -- must
use Word, not anything else, alas.

I want more accuracy and ease in placing the cursor between 2 10-point
letters on single spaced, on-screen documents, which display at 100% of
size.

I currently use a WIRELESS ---???--- "Jelly Comb" mouse, hecho in China,
because that's what my PC man bought for me. It works better than the other
-- generic? Logitec? don't remember -- wireless mouse I have -- it's more
accurate than that one.

Yes, I have fiddled with preferences.

Best: mouse or something else -- trackpad, joystick, ???

Of these, which is best make and model?

I'd prefer wireless all else equal, but will consider wires if the device
gives better manipulatory precision.

Thanks.

2019-11-23 Thread Garth

Well thank goodness for tailors and good ol' clothing designs that actually
ave both style and function. I still have some elastic waist and ankles
cotton "beach" pants I bought from the Big and Tall store years ago.
They're no good for riding but grand for anything else. There used to be
some suitable high rise loose fitting in the hip pants from outdoor brands
like Outdoor Research but they too fell victim to the microbutt trend. It's
like a virus ! Ahahahahaahaha !!!

That Potts looks amazing! Non-susp corrected, type II fork, fat plus tires.
Looks like a winner!

[RBW] Re: Looking for a Betty Foy (55cm or smaller)

2019-11-23 Thread PaulS
Thanks, Ryan. Bicycle gifts for Xmas is a bit awkward around here as we’re
couple feet under snow by then. She doesn’t enjoy biking on icy roads in
single-digit temps like I do. Weird. This bike is cool enough, I’m sure she
will still be very excited.

No other Riv’s on my radar, although Gus is interesting. But not enough to
pursue it as my Hunqapillar is treating me just fine.

Thanks, all! Aye, Andrew, Beorn is hibernating for the winter. Fixed gear
for snow and slop of winter. Even when the lower roads are clear, the trail
is snowy.

Dear Patrick, it's a great relief to see and hear of your adventures again.
So happy for you that *you're* 'out there in it ... and so happy for us
who, surely more than you know, are motivated to go experience *something *on
our bikes. Well done, you!
