[RBW] FS: Vintage "ATB" - Nitto, Riv, Stumpjumper equipment

2019-12-01 Thread ant ritchey
Recently bought that SUPER-HUGE & practically never-ridden Stumpy that some
of you may have seen on the PDX CL or eBay. Had a full build kit just
a-waitin' for it... so the amazingly cherry, practically NOS OEM parts are
now for sale to offset the pretty penny plunked on the bike. Many things

up from the workshop to revitalize the finances. Shipping not included. PM

Take a look - [images of nice parts in a diffused & waning light]

*Nitto // Specialized Bullmoose -- $75*
You could call it a pristine time piece from the advent of mountain biking,
and yet it's a piece of bicycling equipment that's as functional, practical
and useful as ever. Beautiful, to boot. A fully-chromed, Nitto-fab'd
handlebar/stem/cable hanger combo in excellent condition. So clean, so
shiny, so chrome-y. Width is 650mm from end-to-end, center-to-center.
Perfect tig welds, top cap, wedge, stem bolt, hanger bracket & barrel
adjust all super, super clean.

*Nitto // Specialized X-2+2 bar/stem/levers/grips -- $75*
Slingshot-style stem, high riser bars, mint condition Tomaselli levers and
original grips from the 1983 Miyata-made top o' the line Stumpjumper. Dunno
if this is the "dull-brite" finish but the bar and stem are as beautiful as
any piece of Nitto equipment I've ever seen. Very light scuffing only where
the thumb shifters once lived. Tomaselli moto levers in perfect condition,
rubber covers and all. Heat treated w/ a moderate rise for a semi-upright
grip area. Floating cable hanger bridge is module either for dialing in
your brake line or removable if you prefer to use a conventional
headset-stack cable hanger. Original grub screw is MIA; I'm leaving it
as-is for the sake of preservation & period-correctness, but it's just an
M5 so any old bolt will do. Width is

*Specialized Flag Crank & BB -- $90*
170mm, 46-36-26, 110/74bcd. Truly near-mint condition. Light scuffing on
the non-drive side arm near the pedal. The Flag cranks are maybe my
all-time favorite looking cranks and these ones here are in the best
condition that I've seen with my own eyes. Includes Specialized-branded
crank dust caps & original bottom bracket, all in practically unused
condition. Too damned short for me any way I slice it. If you have the S
Flag in 175 or larger in comparable condition please do let me know!

*Suntour Le Tech front & rear derailleur -- $50*
http://www.disraeligears.co.uk/Site/SunTour_Le_Tech_derailleur_5900.html
Is it me or are derailleurs the hardest thing to take really nice pictures
of? If you're interested you've hopefully clicked the link and read all
that there is really to know on this flash in the pan Suntour offering.
Disraeli lists weight for the rear mech, I can check both f if you're
curious but they're nice and light in the hand. Beautiful construction and
in excellent condition.

*Nitto MT-10 dirt drop quill stem -- $45*
26.0 clamp. 100mm extension. Purchased pretty recently from RBW, light use
only. Excellent condition.

*Park Tool double-ended cone wrenches -- $10*
Set of 3; DCW-1 (13mm/14mm), DCW-2 (15mm/16mm) & DCW-3 (17mm/18mm)

*Rivendell Miesha's cork grips + extras -- $30*
2 unused Riv cork grips for bar end shifters, each w/ 2 coats of amber
shellac (perfectly matches a dark brown Brooks). No bikes with bars for
these at the moment, collecting dust...what a shame! Throwing in a third
matching cork grip (Used but in great condition, just needs some amber
shellac and you've got a perfect back up) You know, cuz your bike falls
over and these lovely-looking things mar, break, fall apart, etc. If you
want/need I'll happily hack you off enough hemp twine to get your shifter
cables wrapped up and throw in the tube of super glue to get ya goin'.

*Purple anodized chainring bolts -- $5*
For a triple. Get your color-coordination // bling DIALED.

*Shimano MC70 canti set -- $35*
Pristine, shiny and as new-looking as they were in 1983. Brake pads look
unused. Bolts, washers, springs & plastic backing piece-thingys included
and also in perfect shape.

Evan,
Please don’t mention water; Leah will go off on another diatribe about the
depth of the metallic blue sea like paint job for a 3rd or 4th time now.
I was trying to talk her out of fenders actually since she only uses them to
protect herself from goose poop and other dry weather road hazards; but I have
to concede that they are perfectly fitting for her Clem L and add to the
overall beauty and personality of her bike.

Re: [RBW] QB 62 FOR SALE

2019-12-01 Thread Philip Williamson
Plus one on the "don't worry about the spacing" idea.
It's dead easy to roll an old 130 road hub into singlespeed use. XT or
Ultegra 9sp is probably cheaper overall to turn into a one or two speed
Quickbeam wheel than finding a "track" wheel these days. I got a nice Paul
wheelset singe-sided fixed wheel for mine, and actually had to replace the
130 axle with a 120.

Is there a word for the grail bike that stays a grail bike when you have
the grail bike? "Quickbeam" maybe?

Re: [RBW] There’s a new man in my life, and his name is Clem

2019-12-01 Thread Garth

Well Patrick I ordered a Susie and I stand and mash all the time up
steep hills here. I'll likely use Billie bars as they offer some for/aft
hand positions and the curves are usable, especially standing while
climbing, like the Albatross. It's a frame Patrick, you can set it up and
ride it any way you like. A swept back bar does mean "sit up and beg while
twiddling over the pedals" ... ahahahahahahaha ! That's just silly
Just because you see some photos or some people riding like that doesn't
mean you have to . they're not Zombies waiting to bite you so you turn
into one of them and ride like that.

The longer top tubes of the Susie/New-Clems actually lend themselves to
riding as stretched out as you like, depending on bar and stem of course!

2019-12-01 Thread DHans
I agree Joe it is all a matter of perspective. And, the older I get the less
concern I have for how a bike looks especially as compared to the “typical”
bike. Comfort is king for me! I’ll post a new bike day Leah as soon as I can
find an L model in 52. My current ride is pretty sweet and I’d post a pic but
can’t figure how.

Re: [RBW] There’s a new man in my life, and his name is Clem

2019-12-01 Thread Joe Bernard
Patrick, my 'standing and grinding' experience on Clems is limited by my
arthritic wrist, but I did a lot of it on a demo 52 H a couple (or three) years
ago on a Riv Ride on Mt. Diablo trails (they're steep!). The only limitation I
was aware of was standin while gripping the ends of the Bosco Bar, which you
wouldn't do. I reached forward to the curves for that, and any mtb-ish bar on a
Clem or Gus would be fine for that kind of riding.

I rode a Susie around the building at RBW that had a prototype Bosco Bullmoose
with less reach and more flare, I think that bike would be a great
stand-and-climber. Really the long-stay limitation for these frames is popping
the front wheel up, there's nothing to sabotage standing.

Re: [RBW] There’s a new man in my life, and his name is Clem

2019-12-01 Thread Leah Peterson
Patrick, thanks! I had to look up the word paean, but what a good word to add
to the vocabulary! Where *did* you encounter it?

Oh, stems. I really went into this knowing less than nothing about them. When I
was first diagnosing the fit problem of the bike I was advised to get “a
shorter stem” which just about sent me into orbit because I thought that meant
the bars would be lowered. I like ‘em high!

About climbing and mashing. I am not a dirt road rider, but I am a
very-steep-hill rider. I will often stay in my hard gear and stand and mash
pedals. I do this *on purpose* because I want the extra workout. I have found
it somehow gives me an arm workout as I am pulling up hard on the bars. I’m
sure this is wrong. I’m sure this is bad form... I don’t care. Anyway, I don’t
notice that it’s uncomfortable, and I have my Bosco bars at max height. I also
find if I want to use the granny, I can also stay comfortably seated and climb
the hill from my saddle. It all works great.

Re: [RBW] QB 62 FOR SALE

2019-12-01 Thread Patrick Moore
FWIW, and to make everyone's life easier: you can easily find fixed/ss hubs
to fit a 130 or 135 mm OL rear triangle, so a buyer need not reset the
frame to use it ss. My 2003 Riv converted conversion Road uses a Surly
fixed/free hub spaced 130 mm, my 1999 Riv gofast uses a 126 mm OL Phil
fixed/fixed, and I've owned 1 White Industries ENO eccentric fixed/free hub
spaced 135 mm OL.

Patrick Moore, who would buy a (~58 cm) Quickbeam if he didn't have 3 other
fixed gears, in ABQ, NM.

Re: [RBW] QB 62 FOR SALE

2019-12-01 Thread James Warren

Not in the market since I have a 64, but FWIW, I did the same coldsetting of
the rear of mine to 132ish (also for an Alfine.) I ended up not liking the
Alfine and put the frame back to regular QB use with a single-cog rear hub. I
just put a 130 threaded Phil FW hub back there, and all is fine.

So the differently spaced QB is fine, and I kinda feel like it’s more versatile.

The frameset has sold. I'll be listing the individual components in the

Re: [RBW] There’s a new man in my life, and his name is Clem

2019-12-01 Thread DHans
I really like the way you’ve outfitted the Clem L. It is classy looking. I
can’t help but think of “land yacht” when I see these bikes. I think the low
tube makes it look even longer. I also think the design uses the form follows
function idea in that the wheelbase was extended enough to allow for a stable
comfy ride. I wish I could ride one before purchasing but I may just take a
chance and buy a frame when one comes up for sale.

Re: [RBW] Re: WTB Sugino 30-46t double crankset w/ 175mm arms (or triple to make a double w/outer chain guard) or another brand 2x9

2019-12-01 Thread Abe Gardner
I was just offered some compatible (but scuffed up) 110/74 crankarms that’ll
work with these. Would you take $40 shipped (or I could pick up in Novato
sometime in the next couple weeks)?

You have such nice stuff on the list so often, I figure it can’t hurt to ask if
you have any of the other parts I’m still looking for:
• Rear wheel: 700c, 135mm, 9 speed compatible, similar rim width to Velocity
Atlas (my front wheel)
• Mini v-brakes or cantilever brakes like the Tektro CR710 or CR720
• 35mm tires - used and cheap is great.
• Front derailleur that would match the 46/30 double and friction shifter
(using a Sunrace thumbie or downtube shifters) - I have an old Suntour that may
work but would like something that’s known to work on such a setup.

Thanks,
Abe

I still use Microshift's barend made for Shimano's 10 speed mountain
deraileurs, works great. Even better in friction mode. No pretty silver
