Jan 13, 2020, 5:43 pm That's actually a 59 or 60, FWIW. (He gives C-C dimensions.) Probably makes it too big for Kevin, but does makes it ever rarer. Not many were made in that size using 26" wheels. Re: [RBW] Re: Can we talk about long wheelbases?
Loaded, indeed! Nice work. My sis is visiting and we rode Clems last night and today. She took my Clementine and then a few miles later, we switched. “THIS BIKE IS WEIRD!!!” she shrieked. “That’s your same exact bike,” I said flatly. “Yours is green. Mine is blue. Same bike!” Now, she had been riding [stealing] her husband’s Clem L 59 (previous geometry) and did not receive her ‘19 Clem L until September, which meant nearly no time to get acquainted before the snow came. So, she doesn’t know it yet. I told her about this thread and asked her to contribute what she noticed and all she could come up with is “The Clementine is just EASY.” So there’s your profound assessment. She’s worse than me and now I have documentation. She did say the blue Clem was good after she got used to it but also helpfully pointed out my inferior B17 saddle. Like this: “I hate your saddle! I don’t have this saddle, do I? This better not be my saddle! Because it’s awful. Which one do I have again? Not this one I hope.” And so on and so forth. Re: [RBW] Re: How & when & why did you find Rivendell? What was your first bike or part from them?
For me, it was 1996. I had become hip to the benefits of wool cycling clothing after finding Swobo at my LBS and, if I recall correctly, a search for wool cycling clothing brought me to the iBOB list which introduced me to RBW. I became a Riv member (back when that was a thing), and those Readers changed my life. Bought a Heron Road from Riv in 1998 or 99, an Appoloosa 18 years later, and god knows how much other stuff in between. A question came up over on the iBob list, wondering how to know what kind of early Rivendell a particular Rivendell was. A lot's been said about brake reach and fork legs, but no one's mentioned the whole "put it in the fire and read the inscription" bit. Having never tested a Rivendell in this manner, I didn't want to chime in over there, but I thought someone here might know some specifics about temperature and translations. [RBW] GBW as a commuter e-bike?
I mid-drived a Cheviot which was great but underbraked. I mid-drived a Clem L which was great but a smidge flexy with that way-low toptube. I think a GBW would be spectacular with a BBSHD: Stiff, strong, good v-brakes, you're in! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] GBW as a commuter e-bike?
Quick intro as this is my first original post. I've been a Riv fan for years but not yet an owner - almost went with an Atlantis as a touring bike a couple of years ago but chose custom instead. I do have Riv supplied parts on several bikes, and live close enough to Walnut Creek that I've dropped in a few times. I also have a very long commute, so last year put a mid-drive e-bike kit on an old hard tail mountain bike and that gets me to work. The mtn bike frame is not ideal, though. It's a bit small for me, the front can shimmy at speed, it's not really a road bike. So I've been considering getting a new frame and moving the mid-drive to that. Riv was at NAHBS in Sacramento last year with one of the first Gus Boots Willsens. That has intrigued me, with long wheelbase, wide tires, a sturdy frame but some fork flex for bumps, it might be a good bike for the mix of bike paths, rough gravel and city streets I use to get to work. I like the mixte type frame, and just the overall appearance looks capable. The mid-drive would add 20 lbs to the bike, with the motor in the bottom bracket and the battery hopefully on bottle bosses on the downtube. I'd put a 1X Microshift Advent 11-42 on it, fenders, and a rear rack with baskets to carry my clothes and gear. I'm not usually happy with bars swept way back, so more likely a Wavie bar. What do you guys think, would it be a cool commuter or an abomination to put electric drive on this bike? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: New ROADEO
Lesli: A couple of non-Roadeo pint size alternatives for you: - The Roadini comes in 47 and 50cm sizes. Check with Riv's dealers to see if they have your size. Possibly Riv has one hidden away in storage. There has been speculation about whether or not Roadinis will stay in production. I put this question to Spencer at Riv a couple of months back and he said a shipment is expected March/April. - A Homer Hilsen comes in a 47.5cm size. Right in your wheelhouse. I have a new MIT Homer and a Sam Hillborne and I will say the Homer rides lighter and feels more roadish (to be sure not Roadeo like) than the Sam. For comparison, I might call the Sam a heavy duty rando bike since the tubing is a bit more stout than Homer's. - Smallest published size for the Roadeo is 51cm Best of luck with your search! [RBW] Re: New ROADEO
I'm loving the new ROADEO. I've been on the hunt for a go fast, but still steel roadbike that would serve as an alternate for my heavy duty rando bike. The Roadeo, especially one built by Nobilette, might just be the ticket. One issue: I have a PB height of 75 so I'm right at the margin of not fitting the smallest frame size (I'm 5'2 and typically ride Rivs in the 50cm range). I'm tempted to try anyway since I'm used to riding bikes with zero standover clearance (it's like mounting and riding a large horse). Does anyone remember whether there was ever smaller sizes for this model? Part of me wonders if I should opt for the custom option so I could get something a little more petite (with same specs). Also, if anyone knows of a used ROADEO or RIV road in a pint size (48-50) on the market, let me know! [RBW] Re: New ROADEO
I tend to agree with Mr Lindsay. Having both, but keeping one, the ride is very similar between the BMC Road and Roadeo. And agree, aesthetics and build quality differ, but the BMC Road for a tig welded bike looks pretty nice. I retained the 62 cm BMC, the 61 cm Roadeo went to Mr "can you help me with my fender line" Guild. The BMC Road planes for me, the Roadeo is more comfortable on a longer ride. Same build bits on both all around except for stems and bars (threadless stem and dream bars v conventional and noodles). [RBW] Re: 52cm Wilbury (fancy!) frameset, never built, CL outing
Before the Holidaze I was in contact with him about the possibility of buying it (even though it's at the low end of my size range), but an inglorious tornado knocked down some large branches, that required a ton of tree work that I couldn't tackle myself; that coupled with the fact that I just built 2 top shelf Crusts in the last 6-8 months AND the holidaze means a Glorius is bit further off than I had hoped. Also, the seller has been somewhat stuck on selling it to someone local. Incidentally, he does still frequent here and I believe he is selling these to get a Gus Boots?? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
