To be completely clear, it is the 56cm Sam Hillborne that has a Kasai
Dynacoil dynamo front hub.

Correction on the build list. The dynamo front hub is not a SON Deluxe.
It is a Kasai Dynacoil like Rivendell sells. I used that one in part to
facilitate a slightly easier integration with the magnetic interconnectors
that drive the USB charger.

[RBW] Re: Raid Bill's Stable: Nine bikes available For Sale

2020-02-06 Thread Bill Lindsay
For those who are interested in the Atlantis, here is the build info I've
shared over email to a couple of you:

I don't have a great For Sale photo but it's been featured prominently on
my Instagram lately.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7miU0LlXdK/

It's a 56cm MIT Atlantis. Stock Riv issue headset.

Wheels are Cliffhanger black rims (32 hole), Shimano Deore XT M750 (Japan)
black hubs + skewers. DT spokes. Duro Miner 650B x 2.0 tires, with
tubes. Shimano HG50 11-32 cassette.

Shimano XTR M985 crankset and BB (172.5mm arms, 44/30 rings). MKS pedals.
SRAM 1070 chain(s). Deore XT rear der. Microshift 10sp barcon shifters.
Shimano CX70 front der

SRAM S500 brakelevers. Shimano CX70 brakes. Nitto lugged stem (painted
orange). Nitto 48cm Noodle handlebars. Nitto Crystal Fellow seatpost.
Brooks saddle.

Accessories included: custom Haulin-Colin mini porteur rack, WALD basket
and Swift Sugarloaf bag. Small Sackville Saddlebag. Three King Cages.

I will add/repeat that this Atlantis has been used as my commuter for a few
months now. I rotate ~5 bikes in this commuter role. The Atlantis has
been locked to metal bike racks on the UC Berkeley Campus several times,
and as such there are plenty of small nicks and scrapes on the paint.
Definite beausage in my book, but not showroom.

[RBW] WTB - Paul Melvin

2020-02-06 Thread Collin A
Heyo,

Just what the subject says, silver would be nice. Let me know if you have
one stuffed away somewhere!

Background:
I'm moving to Sacramento at the end of the week and if you don't know, its
flat. I want to convert my Clem to a *S*inglespeed *L*evee *E*xplorer
*H*illibike
(SLEH, pronounced like *sleigh*) to help me explore the riding options in
and around the city of trees. I may end up keeping the 2x chainrings up
front and running it as a 2x1 (38/24 and 19t rear) to help climb over the
occasional highway overpass, but that's the fun of moving to a new
city/area and building/modifying a bike to fit the riding there.

Cheers,
Collin, realizing he has about 4 large home-depot-boxes of bike stuff and
there might be a FS post from me soon

[RBW] Re: Ride length on Jitensha/Map type bars? Updated my Redwood.

2020-02-06 Thread David B
After thinking on this a bit, I think I'm going to have two handlebar
setups ready to go. I'm going to swap in Mafac Raids (will help with fender
clearance too) and put on slotted cable stops. With this setup, I'll have
two handlebar setups with brake cables installed and straddle hangers on
the ends of the brake cables. I'll just need to remove straddle hangers
from straddle cable on the Raids and loosen the quill bolt and everything
should be able to come out in one piece. Shifting is minimal so going to
stick with downtube shifters. I'm adding aluminum fenders too so might have
to go full rinko and figure out the split rear fender operation.
Thanks for the input!

"Oh, yeah misread on my part as well. Hmm, I'm not sure one would want shorter

That's not actually the point of it, it was offered to Bill as a solution for
bike sharing. The intention on some models was to have longer ETTs per each
size frame as a general revamp of the frames. The Clems definitely got longer,
as was discussed extensively in a thread dedicated to the topic.

...and it's more versatile as a "guest bike". With a shorter seat tube I
could ride it at 5'10" and could loan it to somebody around 5'5" or so with
the saddle slammed. With a longer seat tube, I can still ride it but it
raises the floor on the shortest person who can borrow it.

2020-02-06 Thread Applegate
Thanks for bringing that up Julian. I see how my subject line may have been
imprecise. I saw that ENE demarcation on the mounts, and interpreted the
following translated product description as meaning they (either BL or RBW) had
requested the mounts be made by Dia-Compe for the XO shifters.

“Original part number that started the design from scratch. Requested the
production of a traditional Osaka component brand DIA-COMPE.”

The RBW page did guesstimate Feb. 10 for thumb mount arrival, and their bar-end
pods for both SiLVER1 and the new shifters “are virtual but ethically produced
knock-offs of Shimano bar-end shifter pods.” It seems plausible that they’re
collaborating with Dia-Compe to save themselves some time and money in
development and prototyping.

This is my working theory.
