Hi Nathan,

No secret - I just searched "roaduno" using the search (magnifying glass

Re: [RBW] Ride suggestions for San Diego area

2020-12-11 Thread Michael Williams
Thanks Curtis and Robert for the ride suggestions. These seem like a great
start. I actually did ride Elfin Forest yesterday and the climb up was steep
and hike a bike but one you get up there you’re sort of riding a ridge line.
One thing that is new to me in SoCal cycling are goatheads. I’ve seen posts
about them. I must have 10 in each tire but tires didn’t go flat until I
started pulling them out when I was done the ride. I’m excited to explore the
area and experience different terrain.

Re: [RBW] Re: ROADUNO - a new singlespeed!

2020-12-11 Thread Nathan F
Interesting points all, and thanks to Ian for linking that (secret? I could
only find it via search) in-progress webpage. I too am hoping for shorter
chain stays, Grant comparing it to the Hillborne/Homer is good news in that
regard. After some further reflection the one thing I'm not a huge fan of
is the name. Is "Roaduno" supposed to be a play on "Roadini?" Maybe it's
that any name is going to fall flat when compared to Platypus?

Robert, 120mm is great because of all the existing wheelsets available.
After the fixie craze a decade a go high-quality track parts are CHEAP.
Modern rims and spokes built up by a competent mechanic won't have any
issues. So I think they made the right call there. Not to mention 120mm is
10mm lighter than 130mm 

I'm really tempted by this one. A month ago it would've been an easy
purchase but I acquired a free White eccentric hub the other day and the
financially prudent thing to do would be to install it on my '18 Hillborne.
That's not quite as fun though, you know?

I’m curious why they went/will go with a 120mm spacing. Correct me if I’m
wrong, but it seems like 130 would allow for a larger variety hub options.
In theory, wouldn’t a 130mm SS-specific hub have slightly wider flanges
thus allowing for a stronger wheel build?

Sorry about this. Unfortunately, loaded up with all those special goodies,
if it gets into the hands of someone who knows bikes, it might get chopped,

Re: [RBW] Wanted: Appaloosa 60cm pics with big tires, thoughts on upright riding position

2020-12-11 Thread David Hays
Does anybody know if these, the 2.25 Maxxis Ikons will fit on Pacenti Brevet or
inexpensive ZAC 650B rims?
Looking to make a change on my 51 Appaloosa.
Thanks.

[RBW] Re: ROADUNO - a new singlespeed!

2020-12-11 Thread Berkeleyan
How will it be different than a QuickBeam? That's more of a rhetorical
question, maybe just asking what was there to improve on a QB that a R1
will get right? My 66cm QuickBeam (Orange) already has *adjustable* wheel
base, is fully lugged, and has proved versatile enough for a loaded S24O, a
55 mile Brevet, all my local grocery shopping and restaurant dinner takeout
pickup. I know, it's just the RBW "way" for bike models (apart from
Atlantis) to have limited runs, frames that carry their cachet for
years/decades beyond their end-of-run date. I'm never letting go of my QB,
but I hope the R1 is an awesome frame that sells like begeezus.

- Andrew, Berkeley

p.s. It took me a while to get the new sticker - "nothing" is greater than
a bicycle!

Seems like they cleaned it up a bit and added compass tires and wipers (the
ones in the original listing look like they were dry rotted and no good).
Wouldn't be surprised if there was some other mechanical issues that needed
sorting. Should move quick in a hot market like SF!

https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/bop/d/seattle-nitto-rack-front-campee-34f/7244039700.html

this looks to be a pretty good deal, for anyone in the Seattle-area.
Especially if you could get them down to under $100.

Re: [RBW] Re: Stolen: Silver Clem L 59 SS (NYC)

2020-12-11 Thread Roberta
I have seen stolen bike notices posted in the bikes for sale on
Craigslist. Perhaps a notice for a few weeks will help others keep an eye
out for your bike. This way if they see it, they'll have a way to contact
you thru CL.

I'd also keep an eye out on eBay, internet bike for sale internet sites and
pawn shops.

I got a bike stolen about 30 years ago. It amazes me that someone would
just take what doesn't belong to him/her and that I worked so hard to buy.
I never did get it back. I do hope you get yours back.

[RBW] Re: 7 Speed to 9 Speed Conversion Question

2020-12-11 Thread Bill Lindsay
Brian

As with many things, how things go will depend on the details

You say that the bike is running 7sp hyperglide right now. That would
suggest a 126mm rear hub. You claim the rear hub is a FH-1055, which is a
126mm stock rear hub. But then you go on to claim that the rear hub is
130mm spacing.

So, is it a FH1055 that somebody swapped the axle to 130mm later?
Is it a FH-1055 that somebody later swapped the axle and the freehub body
to make it 8/9/10 speed compatible, but continued to run a 7sp cassette
with a spacer, just for kicks?
Or is it actually a 126mm rear hub?

If it really is a 7sp cassette running on there, with no spacer, then a 9sp
cassette just wont fit on that hub. I think that's your first step.
Remove the existing cassette and look at what you actually have. Take a
picture and share it if you need advice. If your rear hub doesn't have the
right freehub body to take your 9-speed cassette then you may be stuck.
Sheldon Brown has the unambiguous photos of the different cassette bodies.

Re: [RBW] Ride suggestions for San Diego area

2020-12-11 Thread Bill Schairer
Sweetwater Summit Park has some trails and a fair amount of the Sweetwater
River trail (at eastern end) is unpaved.
Most of Proctor Valley Rd is unpaved and connects into Millar Ranch Rd or
Echo Valley Rd on the SE side of
 San Miguel Mountain.
Otay Valley Regional Park has a little bit that ties into the Southern end
of the Bayshore Bikeway which also ties into the western end, paved portion
of the Sweetwater River bike path. The Bayshore Bikeway with a ferry ride
to/from Coronado makes for a nice ride, albeit paved, around the bay.
The afore mentioned military land can be accessed if one obtains a one year
permit at Miramar Naval Air Station for the Stowe Trail. It is a nice link
between Santee and Scripps Poway Parkway.(Santee Lakes - Sycamore Canyon)

[RBW] 7 Speed to 9 Speed Conversion Question

2020-12-11 Thread Brian Campbell
Hi.

I am helping a friend with a Kestrel 200 sc that is currently set up with
7-speed down tube shifters. It is a 7 speed Hyperglide cassette on a 105
level Shimano 105, FH-1055 rear hub and the rear spacing is 130mm.

He wants to covert it to bar end shifters and provided me with a set of 9
speed, indexed Microshift bar end shifters.

I am wondering if it is possible to to simply swap in a 9 speed cassette?

Also, for anyone who might know, the rear derailleur in a 105, RD-1055 what
is the max cog size for that the RD can handle? 26 or 28?

Thanks!

I recovered a stolen Trek 720 because of a bikeindex.org listing. It took
over a year and it was trashed but I got it back. Good luck. The silver
lining of that theft was that it gave me the needed excuse to buy my
