[RBW] Re: Tire Recommendations

2023-08-14 Thread Corwin Zechar
I’m partial to the Schwabe Hurricanes. Mine are wider at 2.4 inches. They
have never flatted on me, and are just now starting to show some wear after
three and a half years and more than 2000 miles.

I should add that these Hurricanes are mounted on my tandem and endure lots
of abuse. I feel comfortable riding dirt roads with these tires, but do not
get the chance to go off pavement often based on objections from my stoker.

I also have a set of Schwabe G-Ones, and like them a lot - but not as much
as the Hurricanes. Durability, reliability and puncture resistance are
particularly important to me. I rarely get flats running Schwabe tires. I
have tried tires fro various other manufacturers such as Rene Herse,
Panaracer, Continental, etc. with much less favorable results.

Regards,

Corwin in The S.F. Bay Area.

 sending
business to a local or at least midwest company if possible.

I'm looking for a set of 700c wheels for my Atlantis. I'm thinking I'll
do velocity cliffhangers with a SON up front and a nice rear hub. The rear
is not yet totally decided as I like quiet hubs but there are not many
options in rim brake, 36-40h hubs these days. I've got an onyx silent hub
on my crust and love it but they only go up to 32h and I'd prefer 36 or 40
as I'm a big dude. Which is why I'm thinking about a white industry (loud
as they come) rear hub in 36 or 40h.

Anyway. I'd like to hear about your preferred wheel builders.

[RBW] Bike Parts FS

2023-08-14 Thread Hugh Smitham

HI Folks,

Selling some bike parts I have no use for. Some are brand new, never used
or slightly used. I will accept payment via PayPal Friends and Family. If
that doesn't work for you, I will accept a check in the mail. I will answer
questions if I can but ultimately, it's on you to make sure the part is
right for your application. If you need additional pictures let me know

When reaching out to me about a part(s) please direct message me. Don't
respond to this post in the general comments. I don’t want to clog the
forum with responses. Use the reply to author, you can find that in the
upper right three dots I will need your full shipping address. Pirate ship
requires the full address. Once I know what you want, I will look for the
smallest box and get you the shipping cost. If it's crazy I will consider
reducing the price if it makes sense. I will not ship outside the CONUSA.

[RBW] Re: Wheel Builder

2023-08-14 Thread Ryan Frahm
I had several nice wheels over the years, including some Rich built. I have
to recommend Sugar wheel works. I had a set of SimWorks Stand-alone rims
(Velocity Cliffhanger) with CX ray spokes MI5 rear hub and Son front and
they were the nicest build I’ve ever seen by far. Great to work with and
the price was much better than some other options as well.

Yeah that’ll happen.

I also bought some and didn’t intend to put them on my Atlantis.

So how I have the rons, some Real designs brake levers and the super nice
XTR m960 shifters (if you like flat bar shifters you should check these
out) and no bike.

Have you considered a couple of those inexpensive banjo brothers grocery

bags worth of stuff or an equivalent haul from the farmer's market. I'm
just thinking would easily solve problems related to having of a lot of
weight above your wheel.

Thanks for the recommendation of Tom Bihn, Eric! I’ve been looking for a
moderately sized hip pouch to carry a phone, camera, book, wallet, etc. and
their “Bummer” bag looks nearly perfect! Great prices too.

I managed to snag one of these a few months back when Rivendell posted
them. Since then, I've used it to carry my little Vortex birding binoculars
and they fit perfectly with room for a few other small odds and ends. A
John's Strap works great instead of fishing it through your belt if you
want to be able to just grab it and go.

Re: [RBW] Re: Riv Mountain Works Elf Pouch

2023-08-14 Thread Eric Marth
Tom Bihn is a great source for Made in the USA pouches and
organizers: https://www.tombihn.com/collections/all-organizational-bags

I have a few of their bags and pouches. Made in Seattle.

I also give a +1 to Igor's recommendation to order the RMW pouch straight
from RMW.

[RBW] Re: rack for Wald 139

2023-08-14 Thread Michael Baquerizo

Not aure id this still works, but when i purchasedy basket rack, it was
cheaper, even with shipping to get it frok boue lug the plus was any
small afditionals hardly added to the shipping cost, so it justified some
toss ins. i’d imagine the prices are still similar, but it seems like there
are a nice bit of options from you to choose from anyway.

separately, laing, i see you’re using the cell orange anti flop thing. i
have one as well but it isn’t stretched out half as much as yours. would
you say it works optimally that way? i’ve never been a big fan of its
function

[RBW] Re: PSA: Thomson 26.8 Masterpiece Clearance

Reaming has crossed my mind and I know riv uses thicker walled tubing than
most, but I still wanted to avoid it. How has it been holding up for you?
Do you think 27.2 is possible? I would've much rather had that size from
the get-go, I didn't realize how rare 26.8 is becoming.

Provided that brazing the seat tube into the lug hasn't distorted the seat
tube significantly out of round, it shouldn't be a problem. I've certainly
had no problem with the frame that I reamed to 27.0. 27.2mm became the
defacto standard as it was the seatpost size used on most frames built with
Reynolds 531C.
