Re: [RBW] Re: Bike Rack

2023-11-06 Thread Ed Carolipio
+1 on the Hollywood Sport Rider as a good, low cost tray-style hitch rack
for fendered bikes and swoopy frames. The 2 bike option is pretty light as
well so easy to wrangle on and off the car. Swagman makes a similar rack,
the XTC. I own both: Sport Rider for 2 bikes, XTC for 4 bikes. Ironically,
I buy my racks right around Black Friday since I find great deals on them
this time of year.

1Up makes a very fine rack, but if your bike has fenders, or if you
think you’ll want to carry a friend’s bike who has fenders, you may want
 to
consider the Küat over the 1Up. Reason being, the Küat swing arm will
 still
securely hold the front wheel as long as you get it as close to the front
edge of the fender as possible. Unlike the 1Up, there’s no rear swing arm
on the Küat to clamp down on (and potentially deform) your rear fender. My
Küat has carried multiple fendered bikes thousands of miles on long road
 trips with no issues whatsoever.

2023-11-06 Thread Matthew Williams
Congratulations Adrianna! I’ve been watching for your bike at swap meets and
everywhere I ride and walk, so I’m very happy you got it back!

With regards to removing Sharpie: DO NOT use acetone! Acetone will remove the
clearcoat, decals, and the Rivendell enamel paint. Acetone is one of the
“hottest” solvents and I only use acetone when I’m cleaning bare metal.

So happy for your good news! Can you share more details of how you got it back?

Hey Andrew and Adrianna,

Also, to remove Sharpie pen you can color over the Sharpie with white-board
marker. This will remove Sharpie with no damage to paint or decal. A trick
I learned from a 3rd grade student.

Re: [RBW] Stolen 1995 Rivendell Road Standard recovered!

2023-11-06 Thread Andrew Letton
Great news, Adrianna! I'm happy for you.
I can't really tell from the resolution of the photo, but it looks like it is
just the decals that were painted or marked over. If they used a Sharpie pen,
acetone should remove the pen markings without damaging the paint job (but test
in a small area to be sure!). If they used paint, some paints may be dissolved
by acetone as well. I'm fairly certain that the original paint will not be
harmed by acetone, but again, I would test this in an inconspicuous spot first.

 Hi all,
Just thought to share the good news. A few months ago, my Riv was stolen from
my garage in San Francisco. I got it back this week.
The gist of the story was that a bike person in my community came across this
bike, figured it was stolen, got it from the person selling it, and contacted
me.

All the parts were intact, except bags and lights and bottle cages, and the
bike was totally fine. Someone had painted over the lugs in a black and blue
and it's kind of ugly, but that's maybe a good story to tell some day.
I am so happy!

[RBW] Looking for 54cm Rambouillet

2023-11-06 Thread Greg J
Hi folks,

Wondering if anyone has an early Rambouillet (orange, with the sharper
lugs) in a 54cm that they are thinking about moving along?

I have a 56cm that is a little on the large side and am thinking I'd ride a
54 more. Also happy to explore a trade +/- $ depending on condition, etc.

thanks, Greg
Oakland CA

Thanks, Tom; these look great, too. I want to see the rack "in person"
before I buy it, so I'll put this one on my list to check on!

Any bike rack you'd recommend for Clem Smith L 45 cm and future Platy 50 cm
for husband? Kuat or? Model? Thanks for any help!

For like a car? If so 1UP will be my whole hearted recommendation. Best
product I ever bought and works great for long wheelbases.

Highly recommend the Kuat NV2 or 1UP as previously recommended. I have the
NV2 and it’s the best rack I’ve ever owned. Can easily carry any bike I
have. The only one that pushes the limits a bit is my Gus, I wouldn’t want
to try anything longer. The only reason I didn’t get the 1UP was due to
availability at the time.

  Sally Bidleman <3mun...@gmail.com>: Nov 04 04:29PM -0700

Thanks, Ted! I just checked our local bike shop and, while they don't have
1UP, they can bring a Kuat NV2 down the grade from their warehouse in a
couple days for us to try. Very excited to expand our biking radius, albeit
(partially) by auto! Now, if I can only locate a Jakob Ingebrigtsen running
cap for my son's birthday, I'll be 2 for 2 today, ha.

Appreciate this group!!

I share Ted's praise of the Küat NV2.0. Mine has been one of the best bike investments I've made. It fits my 50” wheelbase medium Gus no problem, although it pushes it to its absolute maxium. When they say 50” is the max. wheelbase, they mean it.

1Up makes a very fine rack, but if your bike has fenders, or if you think you'll want to carry a friend's bike who has fenders, you may want to consider the Küat over the 1Up. Reason being, the Küat swing arm will still securely hold the front wheel as long as you get it as close to the front edge of the fender as possible. Unlike the 1Up, there's no rear swing arm on the Küat to clamp down on (and potentially deform) your rear fender. My Küat has carried multiple fendered bikes thousands of miles on long road trips with no issues whatsoever.
