I’m heavy enough without 2 U-locks strapped to me. If the hospital you work at has an area to lock up the bikes that is pretty well trafficked and someone going at a U-lock with an angle grinder is not typically going to be ignored, then I would worry about security a lot less. Especially if in view of staff who are usually around. Even more so if you lock up with two locks. Good idea to leave one at work and carry one with you. Even better if one is a high security chain so that they're two different styles. And especially if you ugly it up. I wouldn't festoon it with stickers, but you could wrap up sections with old inner tubes and/or mismatched cloth tape that you get a little grimy to make it look more like it might be someone's random, old mass-produced steel beater. I don't think thieves are going to target something like a Rivendell so much. A bike that needs to be recognized by someone who knows what it is to get what it's worth, but which also is more noteworthy and attracts more detailed attention. Maybe I'm thinking too much into it and there might be plenty of thieves very happy to sell off a Riv. But, in any case, I wouldn't be surprised at all if your Surly would be as tempting a target than your Rivs, maybe even more. [RBW] Re: HUGE Rivendell archive update: Catalogs, flyers, brochures and more
I think the Hunqapillar was first offered around 2011 and I have one from the first batch, bought from the original owner a few years ago. Just as an interesting observation, I've been following RBW since 2011 and for much of that time, most of the opinions I encountered outside this small community were not overwhelmingly positive. Now that the whole gravel thing has taken off, I've found a ton of respect and admiration for Rivendell. Bike shop employees actually get excited when they see mine and a couple have expressed interest, if I ever consider parting with it. One guy, who owns some very cool bikes and even started his own bike company, said he knows several guys with Hunqapillars and that would be interested in mine. [RBW] Re: FS- budget 650b wheelset
Spacing of 105 hubs would have been 100 and 130. The Cheviot should have 100 and 135. So, either you bought the bike with the frame squeezed down to 130 -or- maybe the person who sold you the bike had re-spaced their 105 rear hub to 135. Your buyer and you will need to figure that out together. [RBW] Re: When were butterscotch Appaloosas made?
I think Ryan's got it with 2015-2016. I took delivery of my butterscotch/mustard Clem H in late summer 2016 and this came after the Appaloosa was already released in the same color. Not exactly sure if that Clem batch was considered Clem gen2 or just gen1b since I don't think they changed geometry or design of the smaller sizes yet but this was the 2nd batch of Clems when they added the 65cm H size in forest green and buttterscotch/mustard and I recall deliberately choosing the 'Appaloosa butterscotch' color after placing a spring 2016 pre-order for the incoming 65cm size.
