Both Zip and XO-1 are using Mavic Paris Gao Dakar hubs. Bianchi is

[RBW] WTT: My Sam H frameset, 60cm, HiHo silver BNIB, for your 61.5cm A. Homer Hilsen

2023-12-18 Thread Andrew S
Hi folks,

Very high chance of this going nowhere! I picked up a 60cm silver Sam
Hillborne frameset from the last run, as I despaired of C ever receiving
any Homers in Canada (still haven't), but I'd really really like a 61.5
Homer with downtube shifter mounts and caliper brakes (Jason F will be
rolling his eyes about now). Would thus need to be from one of the latest
runs. Not too concerned about color (though mustard would be dreamy).

Maybe you'd like to go the other way (ie. canti/v brakes). Maybe your Homer
is just a touch too big. Maybe you live in the Bay Area, kinda want a Sam
(currently sold out, I think), and could pick up a Homer at HQ (avoiding
shipping costs) with the current discount code and could thereby
effectively get a discounted new Sam from me. Maybe (most likely) you don't
exist..

I'll expect crickets, but would love to hear your thoughts. As usual,
details of shipping etc would need to be massaged, but I'd do what I can to
make it reasonable to consider trading with a canuck.

Thanks in advance!

andrew in Calgary

[RBW] Re: FS: 60 cm Quickbeam

2023-12-18 Thread Edwin W
Joe,

You have a very cool bike that is not very common. I cannot say what the
"right" price is, but there are a few ways to improve your chance of
selling it:

   1. Make the bike look its best. Give it a good wash and pump up the
tires. A bike with flat tires looks like a neglected bike. If you do not
have time or the expertise, offer a kid in the neighborhood $25 to "make it
   shine."
   2. Show off the bike. Take more pictures, showing off any bright (or
   dull) spots
   3. Tell us about the bike. List the major components, especially those
   different from stock
   4. Grow your potential market: be open to shipping. Call around to a few
local bike shops and say "how much would it cost to box up a bike and have
it ready for bike flights to pick it up?" You can add that to the cost, or
split it with the buyer. Check out bike flights and familiarize yourself
   with the process.

Best of luck,

Edwin

Re: [RBW] Re: 135mm hub rear wheel in a roadini?

2023-12-18 Thread Will Boericke
I've lost count of the number of frames whose rear triangles I've spread.
The first was a drawn-out, hourlong affair but these days its 5 minutes, a
2x4 and Bob's-your-uncle. I wouldn't hesitate to do it in this situation.

Also innumerable are the frames that I've just jammed a larger hub into.
Makes roadside repairs a little annoying, but it works.

2023-12-18 Thread Johnny Alien
If you have parts that work for 135 rear and you are not setting it up for
roadie riding (which I am just guessing because of the dynamo wheelset)
then it might make sense to try a different Riv frame. The main difference
with the Roadini is a slightly more road oriented geometry. And even that
is probably minimal in comparison to industry road bikes. There is so much
crossover that I don't think you will miss much going to a different frame
like a Homer.

[RBW] Re: Coaster Brakes for a Beachy Clem Build

2023-12-18 Thread Brian Forsee
I think a coaster clem would be sick! The Mone hub builds are based on the
shimano CBE110 hub. I think for your application an off the shelf CBE110
would do the job just fine. You would however need to space it out to
135mm. The stock axle is likely not long enough so you'd need to install a
longer one with spacers/washers on either side to get you to 135mm. If you
are replacing the axle, it would be worthwhile to go ahead and use a cromo
axle which will be stronger than the stock one. The rest of the typical
mods are mostly related to temperature control and grease flow, neither of
which are very critical for a low-usage beach cruiser.

Bill's point #1 is something to consider tho. The only way i see around
this is a threaded eccentric bottom bracket. Phil wood makes an extra fancy
one, Velo orange makes an affordable one. I haven't tried either of those
but have tried one by german company TrickStuff!, that has worked well for
me. I believe the TrickStuff one is no longer in production.

Sounds like a fun project!

Brian

[RBW] Lots of parts - Atlantis part out

2023-12-18 Thread dylan green
Hi everyone -

I deleted the listing and now have a more complete list of what's up for
grabs. There will be some other parts in the photo link that aren't Riv
adjacent but available so don't be shy! All prices are before shipping.

Nitto 115 (42cm) - no markings on the visible areas when wrapped.
Nitto Technomic stem (long quill) - about 80mm in length
$80 for the set.

Nitto R14 rear rack. An absolute stunner! includes the mounting hardware.
$140

Nitto 65 seat post. 27.2. Previous owner wasn't super shy about trying
different eat heights apparently. But with some elbow grease it could be
really sweet. $60

Ocean Air Cycles Erlen support. Some extra bolts included. Nitto made.
$120

Shimano BR-550 Cantilevers. I actually really like these brakes, but no
real need
for them. One complete bikes worth.
$60

Shimano A-530 two sided pedals. No cleats. Smooth bearings, etc.
$60

Shimano Deore LX M580 rear derailleur. Very clean. Once mounted it
could pass for new. $60

Shimano Ultegra triple (for octalink BB). 175 in length. Green anodized
chainring bolts.
Good condition. $60

Shimano Ultegra shifters. Rough. The front works great, but the rear needs
some love.
$40

Campagnolo Athena shifters (3x8) and Mirage FD (triple).
both are in very good condition with the front derailleur looking
almost new. $100 for the set.

Son Schmidt Delux Dynamo front. Shimano 9 spd rear (currently setup for 7)
- Velocity Dyad's. Barlow pass 38's. Lumotex IQ front lamp and Toplight
Line Plus rear. Open to offers on this...

I've had a lot of people ask about the Atlantis frameset (it's a 58, Toyo
built with the shorter chain stays). While it's not currently on the
market, I could be persuaded for the right price. This is a VERY clean
example. I'm only including this in the ad because on my last ad I received
multiple emails about it and figure i'd save us all some time.

Here are the photos:

Reach out with any questions. That took forever to photograph and list so
apologies if I forgot any details.

Thanks everyone!

[RBW] Re: Coaster Brakes for a Beachy Clem Build

2023-12-18 Thread Bill Lindsay
The show stoppers that I would fear are:

1. A coaster brake requires a no-tensioner way to take up chain slack. On
normal cruisers, that's done with horizontal dropouts. The Clem has
vertical dropouts.
2. Cheap coaster brake hubs are not 135mm and the Clem is 135mm O.L.D.

[RBW] Coaster Brakes for a Beachy Clem Build

2023-12-18 Thread Justin Kennedy
I'm considering converting my 64 Clem L frame into a beach cruiser and kid
hauler to keep at my in-laws' place in Florida. The bike is currently
stripped down to just F/F/HS/BB, so starting from scratch here. I can
source most of the components from my various parts bins, but looking into
doing a coaster brake set up which I do not have on-hand.

Anyone have experience with setting up a coaster brake'd bike? (Not
specifically on a Clem, just any bike in general.) I see MONē has a pretty bas
ass coaster brake wheel
 that's built
on-demand, but I'm not sure it's worth $325++ as I'd prefer to keep the
build as inexpensive as possible (we're only down there a few times a
year). Any other off-the-shelf coaster brake wheelset recommendations?

Also, what other fun components make it a certified beach cruiser? I have
some VO Klunker bars to throw on there and I got some some inspirational
ideas at the two below links (LOOK barefoot pedals per Crust Matt's
Romanceur, pops of anodized components, etc.). Maybe a B-O-B or Frances
Cycles trailer to haul gear to the beach? What else is fun?

[RBW] Re: 135mm hub rear wheel in a roadini?

2023-12-18 Thread R. Alexis
Check with Rivendell to see if this a safe option. I would think it is. I
have a mix of both 130 and 135 OLD bikes in the mix with a few 140mm. My
1987 Schwinn Voyageur is 130mm that I have a 132.5 wheelset mounted on.
Pretty sure the frame was 126mm OLD prior to me getting it. Settled on that
on the wheel to give me the option of going in a 130 or 135mm OLD frame. I
have about several bikes with 130mm OLD. Bridgestone MB-0 (Zip),
Bridgestone XO-1, Bianchi Perigrine, Schwinn High Plains Aluminum and the
Schwinn Voyageur. Wanted to spread the Zip to 135, but was cautioned not
to. The Schwinn High Plains Aluminum is a no go because of the aluminum.
Both Zip and XO-1 are using Mavic Paris Gao Dakar hubs. Bianchi is rolling
on some Specialized sealed bearing freewheel hubs and the Schwinn is
rolling on Shimano Deore DX hubs I swapped out axles and redished down to
130mm OLD. Voyageur is running Suntour Superbe Pro.

Thanks,

[RBW] Re: 135mm hub rear wheel in a roadini?

2023-12-18 Thread Bill Lindsay
There's nothing wrong with shoving a 135mm rear wheel into a 130mm frame.
If it were me, I'd respace my 135mm rear wheel to 130mm and re-dish the
wheel, but I'm a mechanic and I have the axles in my workshop. Likely
nothing bad will happen if you take the short cut, but it's always OK to do
things right, if you have the time to spend.

Spread all frames but one, which I had built @ 135, from 130 to 135 quite
easily. My experiences suggest it requires patience and a bit of
bravado—the spread to get that extra 5mm was/is quite startling. But as I
had / have settled on 135 which is—theoretically at least—stronger thanks
to reduced dishing, I needed to make it all work. Along the way, I hoarded
XTR hubsets and even managed to find cones etc.

BTW, if any of you have XTR spares—front or rear—you need to part with to
generate cash, let me know off-list.

Hi Joe, my $0.02
It seems like two sets of wheels will come with the bike? If so put that
in your FS description too. Its a reasonable asking price as a starting
point, since it also has lighting and a generator hub. You will likely get
some bites if you are willing to ship, or help with arranging packing and
shipping from your LBS.

Re: [RBW] 135mm hub rear wheel in a roadini?

2023-12-18 Thread Guy LeVan
Great question, and I’ve had a different result. I’ve got a Silver Hub
(only available in 135 mm) laced to a Velocity Dyad, and it fit easily into
my Sergio Green Roadini frame, without much fuss. 2.5 mm on each side is
not much. No mechanical spreading, etc. in fact, the silver hub was
really no more difficult to install in the Roadini than it was in my
Rambouillet, which has a 132.5 mm rear spacing, and was marketed to work
with both 130 mm and 135 mm hubs.

Am I making a mistake here, and possibly damaging my Roadini frame? I like
the extra strength of the 135mm hub. Thoughts….

Re: [RBW] 135mm hub rear wheel in a roadini?

2023-12-18 Thread Eric Daume
I had a Roadini and attempted to put my 135mm ENO hub in the back. It was a
no go—the frame was too stiff to bend out. Maybe being the eccentric hub
made this more difficult.

By comparison, I had no issue putting a 135mm hub in my old 130mm BMC
Monstercross, or a 130mm hub in my 126mm old road bikes.
