[RBW] WTB: Woolywarm Sweater Vest and/or Cardigan

2023-12-29 Thread Mike Ullmer
I just picked up a Woolywarm Cheviot Sweater over the holidays and have
been loving it and would like to add a vest or Cardigan to the collection.
I expect a large or XL will fit. If you have anything give a shout!

Re: [RBW] Re: Continental "Basketball" tire

2023-12-29 Thread Patrick Moore
Thanks ?? and Garth; good to know. So RR gives the Contact Speed good upper
middle class rolling credentials, which corresponds to the more recent RR
review I did find.. I'd use them on firm dirt so ultra-fast pavement
rolling is not a requirements.

And just saw your (Garth's) remark on nomenclature.

They're my favorite tire made. The 700x42s pretty much live on my Atlantis

have zero experience with them on sand but I've taken them on hardpack dirt

[RBW] Re: Continental "Basketball" tire

2023-12-29 Thread Patrick Moore
I just saw that the official name is "Contact Speed" and that reviews of
near-kin are generally positive, tho' it's hard to find a review of the
exact model in the exact size you want. But I'd spring for a pair of the
559 X 42s as occasional firm-dirt tires for the 1999 gofast, *if* they
measure true to size or even a bit narrow -- the Nachez Pass is within a mm
or so of rubbing the rear chainstays as it relaxes.

Does anyone know the real-world width? (On what rim?)

[RBW] Continental "Basketball" tire

2023-12-29 Thread Patrick Moore
https://www.rivbike.com/products/tire-650b-x-2-continental-basketball?variant=3669081128973

Apparently these come in 2 sizes that interest me:559 X 1.6/42 mm and
622X42.

I Googled (or Duck Duck Go'd) reviews of the BB tire but came up with
nothing.

Can anyone point me to reasonably intelligent reviews?

Has anyone used these and can say how well they roll and how well they
track in sand and how well they resist punctures?

And how wide they actually are and on what width of rim?

$40 for a nice-rolling, sand-tracking, reasonably puncture resistant tire
would be lovely!

Thanks.

[RBW] Re: ROADINI in South Pasadena

2023-12-29 Thread Brian Cunningham
Congrats, Tony!

I'm just a few miles away in Glendale and have an orange Roadini from a
previous batch. Know a fellow named Dean in Eagle Rock who has one from the
new gold run, and it does look great. I'd have a hard time choosing between
that and the green as well. Both are really nice shades.

Feel free to email me if you'd like to do a little Riv meetup for folks in
the NELA area...

Cheers,

Brian

At any rate, the numbers between both frames look pretty similar. Seems

neutral in handling and I fully expect any Riv to ride amazingly, so I'm
not that worried about it. Given the difference in tire size, and lack of
luggage on the Roadini, I expect it to feel zippier than my trusty Sam.

[RBW] FS: Ortlieb Classic Front Panniers, Asphalt

2023-12-29 Thread John Woo
How Ortlieb sold anything named 'asphalt' is a wonder.

I used one pannier much more than the other and it shows but hey, they're
Ortleib and they will outlast us all. Excellent condition and no rips etc.

$100 shipped in CONUS. Comes with the shoulder straps.

NOTE: I'm selling a bunch of items and I've designated Jan 12th and Jan
26th as my shipping days. LMK if you really need something outside those
times and we can try to work something out

[RBW] FS: Bags — Revelate Designs, canvas handlebar bag

2023-12-29 Thread John Woo
Price includes ground shipping from New York in the lower 48. Sold as shown
in the photos. Used but clean and free of rips.

Canvas + Leather handlebar bag. I think this is an old Acorn design.
Cleaner than it looks in the pictures. Exposure compensation makes
everything brighter, including dust. Loved this bag.
$40

Revelate Designs Tangle Frame Bag, excellent condition
$70

Revelate Designs Seat Bag, excellent condition. I think this is the Pica,
although it might be a slightly older version than currently offered. Fits
a change of clothes, day food, and then some.
$60

Revelate Designs Feed Bag for the handlebar
$25

$140 for all three Revelate Designs bags.

NOTE: I'm selling a bunch of items and I've designated Jan 12th and Jan
26th as my shipping days. LMK if you really need something outside those
times and we can try to work something out

That would have been a tough call for me, too, both colors are awesome.
Dark Gold it is! Congrats on your new Riv, looking forward to the build.

Re: [RBW] Re: Will Cliffhangers leave me hanging?

2023-12-29 Thread Will Boericke
I'll agree that I think the problem is the marriage of shallow,
tubeless-ready rim with a pretty stout tire like the Marathon. I remember
my first set of Pacenti SL23s and how difficult mounting tires on those
rims was. I carry a Var bead jack
 with me
to this day as a result, though I think my tire mounting technique has
improved through the years of tubeless adoption. In your case, I would
definitely change rim tape if you're still using cloth. In the
things-you-probably-know category, I've had best luck starting opposite the
valve stem so that the last bit of bead over the edge is at the valve and I
can push the tube up out of the way. I often use tire levers for this last
bit, which I think is heretical among certain bikers.

If they continue to be an issue, I'd be inclined to try a lighter tire and
perhaps a tubeless setup. It really works well at high volume and frequent
use; problems happen when you stray from those two conditions.

[RBW] Re: Brooks B72 Reissued!

2023-12-29 Thread Roberta
I ordered the B72 in brown with the saddle sandwich directly from Brooks
England. I signed up for their newsletter and since this was my first
direct purchase from them, received a 15% discount. Shipping is free at
this purchase point. Also, if you register your saddle with them within
three months of purchase, the two year warranty becomes a 10 year
warranty. Because of Mark's nose comment and other rail breaking comments I
read on the web, I definitely will be registering the B72. I have an A
Homer Hilsen and a Betty Foy, both with B68 saddles, and I'm planning this
saddle mainly for my Betty.

I also ordered a tin of Proofide, not to help with the break in (I just
ride saddles to break them in), but possibly later on for water
resistance. Obenauf's has been my go-to in the past but not for this
saddle; if I need to file a warranty claim I wouldn't want it dismissed
because of the "wrong" saddle treatment.

When I get the saddle, I'll post some pictures of it next to B68 and B67
saddles I have.

There is also a thread on the iBob board with some additional information:
