[RBW] 52 Clem frame sor sale

2022-07-19 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I'm going to sell my 52 Clem L frame in a couple of weeks so I thought I
would offer it here first. It's the dark bronze green color and in like
new condition. It might have 80 miles on it. Riv talked me into sizing up
when I bought it and it's never felt quite right, so I'm replacing it with
a Rosco Plat. I live in Seattle and would much prefer to sell it locally.
 Asking $850.

Interesting observation. I love the fit of my 52 Clem but wonder if I
“should” be on a 59? A little more than a fistful of seatpost showing and
with a 130mm (I know!) FacePater & 650 wide Tosco. The stem is as high as
it can go. So a 59 could work I guess but with a much shorter stem?
According to the size suggestions you reference I should definitely be on
 a
 52. But based on PBH I could probably be comfortable on a 59.

2022-04-25 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I have a 52 Clem L that feels a bit large for me and am trying to decide
whether to replace it with a 50 Platypus or a 45 Clem L (If anyone has a 50
Cheviot frame in silver or blue I would be interested). Does anyone know
if there's much of a difference between the two sizes? The 52 Clementine I
test rode felt much different than the one I have now.

Re: [RBW] Wald Bag

2020-04-07 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I bought a full set of panniers and a saddlebag from Swift when they were still
working out of their house. I took the saddlebag in this summer to have the
snaps replaced which they did at no charge-great people to work with. Not
inexpensive, but I’d venture to guess that Wald’s labor costs are half of
theirs, not to mention their rent downtown.

Re: [RBW] Re: Vaughn's custom for sale

2020-03-02 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I tried to refrain from posting about this but I have to. A custom anything is
a tremendous amount of work no matter what it is, and in my experience none of
the parties involved except the material supplier is charging what they should
to properly compensate themselves. Customers forget how quickly the hours add
up on any little project. This is aside from how long it took the people
involved to learn their craft. If one wants to have customers, you cannot
charge enough to cover all of your time, even if the project goes perfectly.
Those of us who do custom work do it because we love what we’re doing, not
because it’s lucrative.

I was wondering if there is anyone in Seattle who had a 45 Clem L and would
be willing to let me test ride it. I have a a 52 and of course would be
happy to reciprocate. I'm one of those people who is between sizes and

Re: [RBW] Clem L set up

2020-01-04 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
Hi Leah,

My Clem is coming along. I’m finally putting my fenders on today and taking
off the front rack. I’ll put a rear rack on for now. Like you I still haven’t
melded completely with the Clem. I love it, but it’s such a different creature
that it takes some time to get used to. The length is the most obvious
thing-at times I wish I would have gotten the 45, which is what I would get in
an H. I remind myself that it’s really just a matter of patience and
tinkering.

One of the things I like about this forum is the helpfulness of the members. I
think it’s the willingness to try new things and accept the sometimes odd
setups of others. Perhaps it’s a Riv owner characteristic. For quite a while
bike shops have reminded me of stereo shops in the 70s, complete with an
attitude. And before I get howls of protest, I realize the number I’ve visited
is a small sample. I am sure there are plenty of great ones out there and I
just haven’t found them. Anyway, it has motivated me to fumble my way through
doing my own wrenching.

Since you have a Clem and a Cheviot, how would you compare the two? I’ve only
ridden a Cheviot for a couple of blocks, but still think of getting one.

I can see Leah’s perspective on the names, but I have to agree with Paul that
it should be exactly the bike he wants. I understand completely as for some
reason I do not particularly care for the name Atlantis so am waiting for a Joe
Appaloosa (I prefer the head badge as well) although I think simply Appaloosa
would be better. Silly reasons to prefer one over the other, but when
committing a large amount of money, why not? I do think the single word names
are better-it’s hard to beat Hunqapillar or Cheviot. For what it’s worth, I’m
just finishing building my new Clem L.

[RBW] Choco vs choco-moose

2019-11-18 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
Can anyone speak to the practical difference riding between the choco and
choco-moose bars? I've read the description on the Rivendell site but am
curious to hear from others. I've recently switched from a drop bar Sam to
a Clem L with a bosco bar and assume the choco would be somewhere in the
middle (it would be for an Appaloosa). For some reason I find the
choco-moose bars to be more aesthetically pleasing than the plain choco
bars.

[RBW] Clem L front derailleur

2019-11-04 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I sold my Hillborne frame to switch to a Clem L and discovered that the
front derailleur clamp is too small. I have a 3x8 set up with a Deore rear
derailleur. What size clamp is needed for the front derailleur and does
anyone have a suggestion of which I should get?

[RBW] Hillborne for sale

2019-09-29 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I managed to get one of the Clem L frames so am selling my Sam Hillborne
frameset and have posted it to the Seattle craigslist.
seattle.craigslist.org/skc/bik/d/seattle-rivendell-sam-hillborne/6989317420.html.

[RBW] Used Hillborne value

2019-09-22 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I have one of the early green Sam Hillbornes which is slightly big for me
and am planning to sell the frame to fund an Appaloosa. I was wondering
what a fair price would be or if it would be better to seek a trade. It's
a 52 in excellent condition. Any thoughts on this?

[RBW] Re: Charlie H Gallop!

2019-09-22 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I asked Grant about the Charlie H Gallop yesterday and he was happy to
answer any questions about it, saying that it would be a blend of Roadini
and Clem, sold as a complete bike.

[RBW] New Mixte/lugs

2019-09-16 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
When I read one of the recent posts about the sweater preorder and
supporting Rivendell the new mixte project crossed my mind. I wonder if
there would be enough interest in the mixte project to fund
developing/ordering the lugs. Perhaps as a kind of frame deposit. It's
very much just a thought, but I'm curious what other people think of such
an idea.

[RBW] Re: Clem L sizing

2019-09-13 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
Thanks. On a related note, my next frame of interest is the Appaloosa,
which I've been waiting for a long time. Do you have the 46 and how would
you compare it to the 52 Clem L. I have a longer torso and am concerned
about feeling cramped in the 46, which is what is recommended.

[RBW] Clem L sizing

2019-09-13 Thread 'Keith Swanson' via RBW Owners Bunch
I'm interested in people's thoughts on the difference in ride quality
between the 45 and 52 Clem L. I've test ridden the 52 and it was great,
but sold out. On a Clem H I would ride a 45 (77 1/2 PBH). Any advice would
be helpful.
