[RBW] Re: FS: "Canti-Rom" Romulus 59, built for randonneuring

2018-03-29 Thread DMG
If this setup is too fancy/expensive, I was thinking about removing the
rack/bag/dyno and selling it more in its original form for a much lower price.
Let me know if that would be of interest to anyone out there in Riv-land...

Thanks, Dan in DC

Re: [RBW] "Stop pulling up on your pedals"

2015-12-11 Thread DMG
Slightly off topic, but Eric: what did you do to get retention with on your
Brompton? I switched to MKS folding pedals, which are a bit grippier but
they're still pretty lousy and I'm sick of having my foot slip off and
bashing myself in the heel (which happens way too frequently and definitely
offsets any flat-pedal comfort gains).

[RBW] Re: Eleven speeds on a ten-speed hub

2015-11-27 Thread DMG
Edco (which I was surprised to learn still exists) makes an 11-speed
cassette that's designed to go on a 10 speed hub, if you run into problems
with the removal option.
http://www.bikerumor.com/2015/02/02/edcos-wheel-saving-teneleven-monoblock-cassette-now-available-through-reynolds-cycling/

It's pricey, of course, but might still be a nicer option than the new
wheel route!

[RBW] Re: Feeler: 54cm Rambouillet with couplers $1500?

2015-11-20 Thread DMG
Not to piggyback, but... I have a 59 (canti) Romulus which is essentially a
58 Rambouillet, which I'm also potentially going to be selling, although
without couplers or a nice fresh paint job. Interested parties can feel
free to check in for more info while I dither endlessly about whether I
should sell it or not

Lungimsam – S'ed frames are the same size post-coupler installation; only
a little bit of material is removed to install the threaded bit of the
coupler. They really don't affect the feel of the bike at all (unless they
loosen up, I suppose... and I've only had that happen to me once. It's like
forgetting to unclip when you're new to clipless pedals.

[RBW] Re: Fix broken connector on Luxos U?

2015-10-08 Thread DMG
Anne, I posted about this very issue on iBob
:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/internet-bob/luxos$20repair/internet-bob/49zB6HHji0w/zvHrTCJILLEJ

. After much procrastination, I replaced the broken tab with a wire and
snap connector and everything worked out fine, despite being really
terrible with a soldering iron. Detaching the connector remnants from the
circuit board was the only difficult part of the process.

[RBW] Re: Contemplating a new saddle

2015-08-18 Thread DMG
If you aren't scared to DIY, I would get an awl or drill and a couple of
zip ties and try to lace it up that-a-way. I had a B-17 which came to me
used, and was transformed into by fav saddle of all time by tying and
butchering it. You can always replace the zip ties with twine or leather or
something if they work for you.

The Riv foam approach doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, although I
haven't tried it. I guess it's really dense foam?

These were purchased from Rivendell and never used, still in the box they
shipped them to me in. I do not remember what I paid but it was Rivendell
 so not cheap.

I only have one box for these and I do not want to have to hunt for a box
so would like to sell both sets and ship to one location.

I do not think you can find these in this country, see the link above for
a good picture, I can take some if you want, these are in their display
 packaging.

Both pair for $35 plus shipping

The box is large so I have no idea what shipping will be and will have to
 figure it out by zip.

If interested do let me know

 Thanks
 Joel

I also have but have not priced yet

 3 wheels, all 36 hole

1 pair MA2 rims, custom built but never used, on used Campy Chorus hubs
with a 13-26 6 speed FW, I believe ST, if not that a sachs, can check

Sunn C10 on a SunTour Sprint hub, with a ST 13-26 6 speed This was used
whenI was on rollers only, so very little.

I do not have boxes, have to try to get some and will try, a local sale
wold be great. If you are interested please let me know, I will try to
work out a fair price in the meantime.

These wheels need a bit of cleaning as they have been hanging in my
basement for many years.. They include the tires that are on them.

Not pfishing on this, just have no idea and have to work on pricing, so if
interested let me know and I will figure it out, not asking for bids

 Thanks again

Based on my experience and not knowing why the Romulus would be replaced, I

[RBW] Re: Last Call Quickbeam

2015-04-18 Thread DMG
I have a similar situation with my Kogswell G, which also has the render and
track end issue. I just loosen the struts when taking the wheel out, which
isn't too annoying when you have hex-bolt actuated hubs like Pauls or Phils or
Profiles. The SKS idea is a good 'un though!

Sad that I missed the opportunity to get a Quickbeam at a decent price, but
I'll cheer myself with the knowledge that my custom Mercian which I ordered
thinking I would never be able to find a NOS QB will have forward facing
dropouts (as well as a couple of other preferred geometry, tubing and other
adjustments) which are totally worth the 9 month wait and expense. Yay?

[RBW] Re: Canti-Rom

2015-04-14 Thread DMG
Weird, I have 32 Soma branded Panaracers on my Canti-Rom with Honjo fenders
and they fit fine (not spacious, but definitely sufficient). If you're
using the Velo-Orange struts, that could be more of an issue since the
bolts protrude pretty far into the interior. I'm using Berthoud struts,
which use much smaller bolts. Weird that no one has come up with a system
that puts the bolt head on the inside and the nut on the outside, but I
guess that would look a little ugly.
