[RBW] WTB: Small Chev or Clem L Riv for partner
Hey Bunch -- This is a bit of a hail mary, but I figured I'd post and see if anyone out there is looking to unload a small Riv. (complete preferred, but I'd consider the right frame). Her PBH is about 76cm, which would put the following models in range: Cheviot: 50 (55 might be a stretch) Clem L: 45/52 I'm really kicking myself for missing the boat on the Clem L's and wish that I'd have jumped on one when I could. [RBW] Re: Pondering one 'nice' bike...
Personally, I think you've got all the of the bases covered with the two frames you already own. That Redwood is super cool and even though it goes against your "a bike is just a bike" ethos, I think the fact that you've imbued some of your own personality and tweaked it to fit your needs better makes it a keeper (not to mention the rarity). With both of those frames you have a ton of flexibility (within reasonable bounds) to adapt to whatever riding you want to do now or might want to do in the future. [RBW] In praise of Silver Shifters
I have used indexed shifters my entire adult life. To be honest, I never really had any issues and I never really found any of my bikes particularly difficult to set up and adjust. That said, for some reason when I went to spec out shifters for my new Sam Hillborne, I decided to try out Rivendell’s Silver Shifters mounted on the bar ends of my Albastache bars. What a great decision that was. I can’t believe how much more *enjoyable* they make shifting. I have them set up with a 9 speed Connex chain and a 11-32 cassette that I got from Rivendell and after a little getting used to I feel I can shift nearly as accurately and efficiently as I could with lower range Camagnolo ergo levers (which were wonderful, by the way). If you’ve never tried friction shifting and are curious, I’d definitely recommend picking up a set of Silver’s and giving it a shot. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Brake Boss Prep? (new frame)
Hey Gang -- I'm building up my first Rivendell (a Canti-Sam) and I hope to mount of set of Tektro CR720 cantilever brakes this spring. This is a brand new frame and the bosses (at least to me) seem quite smooth and free of debris and paint. My question to the group: Is it recommended to take a few passes at brand new brake bosses with a fine grit emery cloth to ensure max smoothness or is that overkill?
