[RBW] Re: Wheel Builder
I have been happy with three lightweight wheels Peter White built for me. With my first rear wheel (Mavic Open Pro rim), as I left the shop he said, "It will never need truing." I was skeptical, but over 20,000 miles later, it has never been touched by a spoke wrench. Jon Blum On Monday, August 14, 2023 at 4:49:49 PM UTC-7 Josh C wrote: > Thanks. I have had wheels from both, and they were flawless. Not local to you though, west coast and east coast respectively. I use Velocity or Velo Orange rims; Phil Wood, White Industries, Paul, Curtis Odom or classic Campagnolo hubs (Nuovo Record or Tipo); and Wheelsmith (out of production but still out there) or Sapim spokes. Most of my wheels are now 40 and 48 spoke, but I do have quite a few 36 and even a couple 32s. [RBW] Re: Front Derailleurs / Derailers / Whatever
If you are really stuck, IRD makes a "Sub-C" front derailleur designed for subcompact setups. From the picture, it appears to have a shorter cage than usual. I cannot attest to its function or whether you need it, just alerting you to its existence. The gap between the cage on the derailer and the pantguard is about an inch, maybe slightly more. I'm shifting with DuraAce bar ends, so it's friction. I also have an ugly, ugly XT front derailer that would need some shims for the seat tube. The cage is slightly shorter but it's so ugly and bulky that I'm not certain I could stomach having it on this bike. I'll post up some photos once its all set up. Now, I just need to remember how to set up cantilever brakes... >>> >>> -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: WTB: Specialties TA Handlebar Bottle Cage
For future reference, Velo-Orange and others sell a little clamp that allows you to attach a "normal" water bottle cage to handlebars. I have used them to mount other things but not actually for the intended purpose. Jon Blum On Monday, June 8, 2020 at 2:31:14 PM UTC-7, C.J. [RBW] Re: So what do I put in my tea now?
Returning to the original topic: There are a lot of sweeteners; many (such as honey, date, or agave) contain sugars that may not be any more healthful than white table sugar. There is some debate over this, and I am not an expert on that topic, but at the very least, they are similarly caloric. Personally I use Stevia when I really need a sweetener, but no, it does not taste as good. The strategy I would recommend is to gradually reduce the amount of sweetener you use. Over time, you may find that you get used to a less sweet beverage and may even find the old amount of sweetener less palatable. This may not work for everyone, but I found it helpful. [RBW] Re: What would you do?
Steve, I respectfully disagree with your suggestion. Once husband finds out where the bike went, it will reinforce in his mind that no one will steal it. "If the only way it gets stolen is my wife has to take it, that proves that nobody else will take it." (I realize this is not logical.) So I think this approach will fail, and it may have unintended adverse effects. Trying to prove a point by inflicting distress is not generally a good relationship strategy. (Not that I have tested this myself; it would not be well received.) Plus he has his reasons, obscure and seemingly illogical as they may be. Personally, I would write the bike off in my mind, and then hope the thieves don't prove me correct. Just my two cents. But thanks for your always-interesting perspective. [RBW] Re: Hat quest
I have had good luck with Sunday Afternoon hats. The ones I have used are nylon. With the large-brim models, I can be outside all day in the sun without sunscreen, and still remain as pale as a ghost. People think I didn't go on vacation. They have a large line. Some models have a chin strap for retention. I have not tried to use them for cycling, since I wear a helmet.
