Catalog says 61, 63 and 65 went to 700c I'm guessing that this particular catalog excerpt was from later in the period of model availability, and reflected a change that occurred at some point. As noted, mine is 60cm and has 26" wheels. And I know of at least one larger than mine (assuming 61cm, picture attached below) that also has 26" wheels. Prior to 1999, it may be that this size still fell below the "cutoff" between 26 and 700c, or it may just be the case that nothing larger was ever ordered/built. I still kind of think that, at first, they were ALL 26" though. Remember that the original reason for using 26" tires was that there were no 700c tires that had enough volume. (Or at least very few.) At some point, that obviously changed. If I'm correct, it looks like the change might have actually happened mid 1999, comparing with Norman's info, and corresponded to a change in builders (Joe Starck, earlier in the year, used 26", and Match, later in the year, used 700c?) Or who knows... maybe there was an option to choose for a short period during the overlap. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. I was favoring the 1970's Schwinn Opaque Red (non-metallic). The frame is the original Emerald Green, which is not high on favorites. However, the paint has held up very good considering the 25 years. Schwinn was using a clearcoat at that time, which may have helped. Keeping it indoors (garage, shed) and not in a parking lot, like a car, probably also helps the paint. TIA. [RBW] Wide profile canti brake recs
I need to raise the cable hanger on my front brake to accommodate the diving board for a Mark's Rack. The current low profile brakes are marginal (at best) with the hanger closer to the tire and I anticipate that they will not cut the mustard if I raise the hanger another inch or so. I'm using the Tiagra aero levers that Riv sells. That being said, I'd like to install a wide profile canti on the front that would work well with my existing levers. What wide profile brake have you had a good experience with on your Riv with an aero lever? How high are you running the hanger from the tire? Re: [RBW] Nitto Mini Rack and Riv All Rounder fork
I wonder if they changed the struts length on the Nitto Mini. The bike was made in '99 by match and was spec'd for a Nitto mini, IIRC. I don't think bending the struts is an option. The pictures might not show it well enough but if I bend the struts down, they will move away from the braze-on since they will move in an arc. I'll probably just put the rack on my XO instead. Maybe I'll buy the Mark's Rack from Riv or maybe another one that mounts to the canti bosses. The bike was built for 26 wheels, btw. -Norman in PDX From: dougP dougpn...@cox.net To: RBW Owners Bunch rbw-owners-bunch@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, November 9, 2011 12:38 PM Subject: [RBW] Re: Nitto Mini Rack and Riv All Rounder fork The little Nitto on my Atlantis is 155 mm. Steel is highly malleable; the bend option should work. You just ID'd the downside to braze- ons. I had braze-ons added for my low riders, then changed to a better rack without thinking to compare mounting points. dougP On Nov 9, 10:45 am, William tapebu...@gmail.com wrote: Yeah, you and I are talking about the same rack. [RBW] Nitto Mini Rack and Riv All Rounder fork
Hello- I recently purchased a used Nitto Mini Rack to put on my Riv A/R. To my surprise the struts are just short of the braze-ons. I measured the distance between the fork crown hole and the braze-on and get 155mm. But the Nitto rack measures 150 from the stud to the strut mounting hole. All measurements c-t-c. Do you know what the distance usually is on Riv forks from the crown hole to the mid-fork braze-on? Do you have a mini rack, if so what does it measure from the mounting stud to the strut mounting hole? Any other advice/comments? [RBW] TA Zephyr triple and bb length
Hello- Are you running a TA Zephyr triple on your Riv? What brand of bb and length are you using? I have a match-built AR with a Phil 123+3 and the teeth on the 42 middle ring are so close to the stay I can barely see light in the gap. Wondering if I should go longer, live with it or go to a smaller chainring. Possible related issue: the chain skates on the middle ring when shifting down from the 46t big ring. The rings are not ramped and pinned. Chain angle? Thanks- Norm in Portland, OR -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] TA Zephyr triple and bb length
Good morning- After doing some reading on PJW's site (http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/) it appears that TA switched from ISO to JIS tapers after my cranks were made. So how much of an issue is it to use ISO taper cranks on a JIS taper spindle? Could someone educate me on this or point me to some further reading? I seem to recall 125mm being spec'd for this application..you need that 125 Phil. -- On Wed, Oct 19, 2011 at 8:01 PM, Norman Bone bone1...@yahoo.com wrote: Hello- Are you running a TA Zephyr triple on your Riv?
