[RBW] Re: Scissortail Cycles 650B frame

2015-05-23 Thread twin
Chris,
Tobin does not make frames however Fred does lugged and fillet brazed
frames. Dewayne is building tigged frames currently and he is not building
through the shop. He builds from his shop under the brand Scissortail
Cycles. He draws by hand currently and took my ideas of what I wanted which
were a lighter frame than my Rawland. I have chosen a Mango Chris King
headset with a creme frame and fork which will match my SKS/Esage creme
longboard fenders. I will be using a Nitto small front rack and an Acorn
front handlebar bag, I will sometimes have my Nitto R14 rear rack with a
Sackville bag on the back. I will be rolling on Grand Bois tires. Thanks to
having owned a Rivendell Bleriot and a Rawland I could decide what I wanted
with this bike.

 Carla,

I can't tell you how cool this is. I approached Buchanan's a few years
ago about a custom fork (that I didn't end up committing to) and I've
talked to them a couple of times, in extremely general terms, about a
custom frameset. I've also had them do some framework on a 1983 MTB I own.
It will be exciting to watch your bike come together. Do you have a
rendering from a program like BikeCad, that shows what the final bike will
look like? Did you design the bike or did you give him a general idea and
 let him design it?

Do Dewayne and Tobin both build framesets? I had assumed it was just
 Tobin doing the building.

My Handsome Devil is a single speed and its great for riding to school to teach

[RBW] Re: Quickbeam Question - main bike, or backup bike?

I have the cheap persons Quickbeam which is a San Jose in the washed

It is my main ride and I really enjoy ss.

 Patrick,

I can't speak to your questions. But as another data point, I have to
say I don't like my Q ride as much as the 2001/Curt road custom, or
the 2009/Waterford Legolas. The Q doesn't feel as lively as those
frames *to me.* Not that the single speed format isn't fun and not
that I don't enjoy my Q rides.  I haven't done my homework to compare
tubing, but the Q from pure frame weight alone must have thicker
walled tubes. I am suggesting you may not like the SimpleOne ride
since you are spoiled by your customs. But of course YMMV
