Re: [RBW] Cantilevers or Direct Mount-Centerpulls

2024-02-25 Thread vernon brooks
I just had some similar modifications done on my wife’s Rambouillet that
I’ll be building for her later this year. All of the bikes that I’ve owned
in my adult life have been cantilever so it may be that I’m simply a
creature of habit. I will say it is nice not having to work around the
front brake if you’re intending to use a rack that mounts to the center
hole on fork crown. In the end it all comes down to preference and
intention. A brake is a brake and if you play around with it enough you’ll
likely get the same result.

Re: [RBW] Re: Why baskets and front bags instead of rear panniers or perfect Rivendell saddlebags?

2024-02-02 Thread vernon brooks
I’ve tried out a lot of different set ups with my Atlantis and ultimately
landed on handlebar bag with Mini front rack. Having a basket is nice for
hauling stuff around, but I found it feels a little clunky and out of place
because I primarily ride drop bars. I am in the process of restoring a
Rambouillet for my wife that will get albatross bars and a front basket.
Very excited for the build frame is at D getting a fresh paint job from
Rick.

Hi all butting into this here because I am interested in this bike. Can
anyone comment on how it rides/feels compared to the Atlantis nowadays?
Also, does anyone have the size chart for the 58? I messaged the seller and
they didn't know. I'm looking for minimum pbh, rider height etc. Anyways,
would love some input because I've been searching for one of these forever!

Re: [RBW] Re: Show Me Your Atlantis!

2023-05-07 Thread vernon brooks
Luke thank you for the bike complement!

Today I was driving back from Santa Cruz and saw a group of cyclists that
appeared to be heading back from camping on Hwy 1 near Half Moon Bay. One
of the people in the group was riding an Atlantis with rainbow top tube.
Was it you by chance?

I'm always happy when I see others enjoying their Rivs in the wild,
especially when it's in such a beautiful setting.

Happy Sunday,

 Hi all,

Enjoying this thread. Here is my new Atlantis on its first ride,

collected parts slowly, built it up in super slow motion, and it felt
 great
on that first ride. Expecting a set of dyno lights from Peter White

Thank you for the input and image Bill.

I've thought about fabricating something similar and agree with the
statement regarding p-clamp use although it does the trick in a pinch.

Will follow with a conclusion if some sort.

[RBW] Seeking rim input

2022-08-24 Thread vernon brooks
Hello everyone hope you've all enjoyed a casual ride this weekend!

I'm looking for some input on rims. I recently purchased a Bombadil from a
member on here and am planning on having new wheels built up. After
enduring a painful wait I have received my rear hub from White Industries
front will have a generator. Thankfully they were ahead of the initial
estimated wait time. I have a set of 48mm RH knobbies that I plan on
running once the wheels are build but might switch it up.

What 650B rims are you running these days?

Thanks in advance,
Vern

Yes Matthew this is the one that I mentioned before. I hadn't heard back
from Coco so figured she had found something already. I would be interested
in trading for another Rivendell if anyone here has something slightly
smaller. My Toyo Atlantis is a 58cm and fits like a dream for reference.

[RBW] Re: WTB 59cm Atlantis

2022-03-28 Thread vernon brooks
Hey Coco wondering where you're located? I'm San Francisco Bay Area.
Recently I purchased a newer 59cm Atlantis complete and quickly found it
too large for my riding style. I do have a friend who is interested in the
bike but have seen your post pop up a couple times now. I would prefer to
sell the bike locally but if said person backs out i would consider
shipping. You're welcome to send me an email and I can follow up with you
if the sale falls through.

Thanks,
