[RBW] Bags like the Grabsack?

2023-01-09 Thread Michael Ullmer
Hi all, wondering if anyone has any recommendations for bags like the Riv
Grabsack from small-ish makers (i.e. not Timbuk2)? I'm looking for
something like the Grabsack in size/function but with a better strap and
open/close function.

Now with winter here, I need more space for gloves, hat, etc. than my
little Swift hipbag can accommodate.

Thanks all!

photos to upload- sorry about that- send me an email if you are interested,
and I'll send you the pictures.
Thanks,

Re: [RBW] Bags for Hub Area Racks

2018-05-10 Thread Coal Bee Rye Anne
Thanks Howard and Thanks Joe. Now it's just a matter of digging the OYB
bags out of the closet and checking their hook spacing. HARacks are one of
the items on my shortlist/wishlist and would be partially offset by a
hailmary and remaining CFKAR (credit formerly known as Rivendollars.) With
HABags now gone and only available 2nd hand I've hesitated to order the
rack implusively only to have it sit until I could score a set of bags.
But after having recently acquired my first Sackville item (Grabsack as a
gift for my significant other) I think I'd happily wait for HABags to come
up for sale even if the OYB's didn't work out. Still need to work through
a few things to justify the expense aside from my remaining credits
anyway so hopefully the racks are still available when I'm finally ready.

Re: [RBW] Bags for Hub Area Racks

2018-05-10 Thread Coal Bee Rye Anne
As a related question... anyone have a measurement of the length of useable
upper rail for the HAR? Between the stops/tabs and/or hoop? I have a
pair of Jeff Potter's OYB Retro Panniers I briefly used on a Surly front
rack but wondering if the hooks would fit the spacing of the HAR. I've
since traded away the Surly rack for other parts of interest and haven't
been using a pannier rack otherwise. I have two forks a HAR should work
with (one is on my Clem) and a 32f mini front rack to pair it all with so I
could add a basket up top and the OYB panniers below.

[RBW] Bags for light touring on my Cheviot - Sackville BackaBike

The Backabike is brilliant and simple and will do exactly what you want. They
replace the TourSack panniers, which are one unit with both panniers connected
my a middle fabric that rides on top of the rack. There are other differences,
but not significant ones.

With abandon,

[RBW] Bags for light touring on my Cheviot - Sackville BackaBike

2017-12-27 Thread SeanMac
Hi folks,

As the year is coming to an end, my thoughts are moving forward -- planning
for some quality riding with my son (19 years old) next summer.

He and I rode the Erie Canal Trail together a few years ago. We are
contemplating a similar ride in 2018 - somewhere in New York, Ohio, Penna
or Southern Ontario. He will be riding my 1991/92 Trek 520. I'll be
riding my 60cm Cheviot. Though he is much younger, I am a stronger
cyclists. As a result, I will be carrying more of the load. We will
likely be out for 3 - 5 days. Camping most of the time, but likely nicer
lodging on the first and last days of the ride. I'm trying to figure out
how to best outfit my Cheviot for this endeavor (and grocery-getting duties
on non-tour days).

I currently have a medium Sackville Saddlesack on my Cheviot. In the near
future, I will be adding a Wald basket (medium, most likely, to sit on my
Mark's rack). I also have an old Baggins saddle-sack, which I think will
be cool to use as a handlebar bag. Given all of this, I think that a set
of rear bags would leave me all-set for almost anything. I've got my eye
on the Sackville Backabike rear bag. From what I have read, people seem to
be very happy with these bags. Am I correct in my opinion that these bags
would work equally well as gear-carrying bags on a shortish tour, and also
work to carry bags from the grocery store?

I remember that Rivendell once carried a bag that was designed as a rear
pannier - I believe that it was called a Tour Sack. Is the Backabike bag a
replacement? If so, how are they different? Will the backabike likely
meet my needs or should I be looking for something else?

Thanks,
Sean

[RBW] Bags

2017-03-19 Thread Broccoli Cog
Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on a new saddle
bag for my Sam. My current setup is I have a Mark's rack on the front
combined with a Wald 137 Basket and a Swift Industries Sugar Loaf bag. My
saddlebag is a Sackville X-small. This is a great set up for all around
riding. I am considering adding a saddle bag that will allow me to carry
some extra cargo. I don't have a rear rack and don't have any intention of
adding one. That limits me to the Small or the Medium Sackville. I am
trying to decide between these two sizes and I am not sure what to do. My
goal is to have a bag big enough for commuting and possibly some S24O
trips. I don't currently have the gear for the overnight camping and wonder
really how much I'll get to do that. I was initially leaning towards the
small but thought why not get the medium. I might be happy to have the
extra space when I need it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

[RBW] Bags for sale. Some Brooks B17's... Mustache handlebar setup too.

2015-09-28 Thread RJM
I have a few Sackville bags that need a new home...these are just taking up
space and the wife is irritated with me for having "stuff everywhere."

Sackville SaddleSack Small - Olive Pretty good shape with only a few
marks from various rubbing. No holes or any weirdness. Great bag. - $90

Sackville TrunkSack Large - Olive This is in a little worse shape than the
SaddleSack above, but still, no holes or any weirdness. The leather on the
back that fits over one of the Nitto racks is a little "not flat," that's
really the only difference in condition. Still works finejust some
beausage. - $75

Sackville TrunkSack Small - Olive. About the same shape as the SaddleSack
above. Handly little bag for a front rack. - $70

If you need more, just ask and I will put some more up.

Brooks B17 Select - I used this on my Roadeo for only about 300/400 miles
and have switched to something not leathery. It worked fine and was super
comfortable, but I confess I went a little lighter for this bike. This is a
quality saddle with good thick leather. Has one scuff mark on the corner (I
lean my bikes up against building sometimes using the saddle to hold it up
and this is what happens...really, the only blemish) Comes with a box, tin
of goop, saddle cover, and a copy of the brooks newspaper thing shown. -
$120

Brooks B17 Standard black - my first Brooks saddle that I replaced with a
Special model. This one I rode for about 800 miles and it has a scuff mark
on the top. Still has plenty of life in it...comes in a box. $75

I have a mustache handlebar setup, one of the early mustache bars and not
the current ones. This setup has a 8" dirt drop stem, some Soma blinky
lights that Riv used to sell for bar end plugs that probably need
batteries. I haven't turned them on in years. It also has some Dia Compe
non-aero brake levers that I bought from Velo Orange a while back but I
installed some brake cable adjusters in the end, which really help with
adjustment...surprise. The handlebars are wrapped in black cloth tape and
shellacked. It's a good setup.

pics
here. https://www.flickr.com/photos/93186953@N00/albums/72157658753070729
 Say$hundred bucks for the setup.

I can take paypal or check/money order with a small wait to see if it
clears. prices are marked shipped to you if you live in the lower 48...

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

[RBW] Bags for small bike owners (48cm Hunqs, 47cm Sams, Atlanti, etc.)

2015-04-26 Thread BenG
My wife rides a 47Betty. She uses panniers with a big (not very) Nitto rear
rack. It is solid and she has lots of space. Her bags came from Natril Gear.
I think Riv's hub area bags would be nicely scaled for the back of her bike,
but she likes more color. They look nice.

[RBW] Bags for small bike owners (48cm Hunqs, 47cm Sams, Atlanti, etc.)

2015-04-26 Thread islaysteve
I ride a 51 Bleriot. The Kevin's bag is perfect for most of my riding.
However, anticipating some longer rides in the future, I'm just finishing a
project to convert an inexpensive canvas tool bag to a somewhat larger bag for
my saddle, for those longer rides. I will start a separate post with pictures
when it's done.

[RBW] Bags for small bike owners (48cm Hunqs, 47cm Sams, Atlanti, etc.)

2015-04-24 Thread Ginz
I'm curious to know which bags small frame owners. My saddle height on the
Hunq is low enough relative to the wheel that even a small saddlebag cannot
be run without a rack to hold it up off the tire (at least when loaded and
saggy). Even a Carradice Bagman is too tall. I think I tried a Mark's
rack and the tombstone hit the saddle rails.

I've got a Brand V bar sack on there, but I need more space for day rides.
Any ideas? I'm really trying to avoid a rack as this is more of a trail
bike and I've got racks on my other bikes.

I wonder if I could have someone modify a Carradice Bagman to shorten it a
little bit?

[RBW] Bags, bags for sale . . .

2011-09-03 Thread Forrest
I have some very nice and very lightly/barely used bags for sale. There's
nothing wrong with these bags. I just have more bags than I need, and I'm
sort of an experimenter. These wonderful bags simply don't meet my current
needs. Inquiries and offers off-list, please. I take PayPal. Thanks for
looking! -- Forrest

Photos of all these bags here: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjw6C73f

Brand V Boxy Bar Bag. Used 3-4 times, once on a weekend tour. Nice on
Noodles or other road drop bars. $65 shipped in CONUSA.

Sackville Trunk Sack Small, olive canvas. Used a half dozen times. $95
shipped in CONUSA.

Sackville Saddle Sack Large, olive canvas. Mounted on the bike 4-5 times,
and carried a load maybe 2-3 times. Really like new. May be missing the
removable top flap zippered pocket (the little take-with-you thing); I'll
try to find it. $180 shipped in CONUSA.

Arkel B-40 rear panniers
(http://www.arkel-od.com/us/b-40-basic-rear-bike-panniers.html). Used a
half dozen times for commuting. These are very good, but I found I preferred
my older Arkel T-42 panniers, and I don't need both sets. Simple design,
great/typical Arkel quality and bombproof construction. $120 shipped in
CONUSA.

[RBW] Bags

2011-02-07 Thread Benedikt
So I'm thinking about making a new bag for my front rack. I'd like to
finish it by Chilly Hilly (however that only gives me three weeks) if
I do. I'm thinking a design similar to these -
http://www.guu-watanabe.com/tabi.html
although maybe a slight bit smaller. Large enough to hold my camera,
gloves and some snacks.
