[RBW] Model/Size Recommendations for PBH 82ish -- In between sizes

2019-02-23 Thread Pancake
Heavy guy here (250) - I’m a good fit on a 56cm Sam, and good on 60cm Cheviot.
PBH 84.5cm.

I bet you’d really enjoy a 55cm Cheviot (as mentioned above).

I ride my Cheviot with 42mm basketball tires (a.k.a Continental Sport Contact
II City Tire) and fenders so there’s room to spare. I’d suggest you consider
the 44mm Compass Snoqualmie tires if you won’t have fenders. Great ride, smooth
and fast and fun. That said, I’ve ridden 32mm touring tires at higher weight
(closer to 300) without any issues. But I agree with the general “wider is
better” near consensus here.

Proud MOM (man on mixte),
Abe

[RBW] Model/Size Recommendations for PBH 82ish -- In between sizes

2019-02-23 Thread RDS
I've narrowed my choices down to a 51 appa & 53 Atlantis. I've sent some
feelers out to some riv dealers to see if there are any 51 appa's still
available. Did the appa's come as frame only or did they have a complete
option? If complete does anyone have what the build kit was & pricng?

I ride a 59 Clem l and have an 89 PBH. The seatpost looks fine. I think a 52
Clem would be perfect for you if your PBH is 82. The amount of seat post
showing would be fine. I really think a 59 would be too big for you.

A Hunqapillar is an incredible bike.

[RBW] Model/Size Recommendations for PBH 82ish -- In between sizes

2019-02-19 Thread Joe Bernard
You're not going to like the seatpost/stem extension on a 51 Appa if it
bothered you on a 52 Clem.

I'm 80ish PBH, short arms and fit well on a 55 Cheviot. I think the fit should
work for you, but you're correct that it might be a little underbuilt (maybe
talk to Riv about it).

For a stout Riv with a tad more standover than your Sam, take a look at the 54
Hunqapillar on Ebay. It's a nice bike.

[RBW] Model/Size Recommendations for PBH 82ish -- In between sizes

2019-02-19 Thread Drw
I don’t know that the difference between 52/59 Clem’s will be as drastic
between a 55/51 Sam. The Clem’s feel bigger to me and their differences
greater. Meaning I would maybe try the 51 Sam before you rule it out.

That said, I think a 51 Appaloosa would be great for you. Big tires, can handle
a load, awesome fork crown, not sidepull brakes...

[RBW] Model/Size Recommendations for PBH 82ish -- In between sizes

2019-02-19 Thread RDS
Need some sizing/model suggestions for those that fall in between sizes on
some models. Due to shorter arms & not great flexibility, I want to be on
the low end of sizing for a model versus the high end. Meaning less
seatpost showing vs more. PBH 82ish. Being overweight, I want to use 38+
wide tires (as a minimum) which might bump SO height up a little as the
tire gets more wide and tall. Living in Georgia, I do not have easy access
for testing sizes.

*Here's what I know due to past purchases:*

Clem 52 H - I am on the top end of sizing .. could it have worked? Yes,
but not optimal for me plus asthetically, too much seatpost and stem exposed
Clem 59 L - with seatpost slammed, on the extreme of getting seat height to
work -- slightly too tall
Sam 55 - Standover was uncomfortably too tall w/ zero room to spare and
that was with either 32mm or 38mm tires

*So, trying to narrow down which models that I might be at the lower end of
a size.*

So, Clem and Sam are out due to being on the high end of sizing for size
51/52. AHH, looks like I'm just slightly to small for size 54.5 which
would put me at high end of sizing on a 51. Atlantis, looks like I'd be at
the upper end of size 50 & not quite enough SO for 53.

Am I right that my two best choices would be *Cheviot 55* (at 300+ lbs I
may be too much weight for it) or *Appaloosa 51* as I might be in the
middle end of sizing vs high end
.
Anyone near my PBH, feel free to send pics off list to me showing how much
seat post is exposed & your PBH. I want to get the tallest size I can get
so that I have little seatpost and high bars. With me having short arms &
not being very flexible, I'll probably have to use a reach back style
handlebar.
