[RBW] New (to me) Atlantis and a few things FS
Hi Folks, I just scored a 61 Atlantis complete from an incredibly pleasant seller on Craigslist. The price was too good to be true (the seller had the original owner's manual, so nothing sketchy) and the paint is a nice Coleman green with cream accents. I have had a few Rivs pass through my hands (60 first-gen Sam, 63 Hilsen, 61 canti-Rom) and this is the first one that feels like it fits perfectly. I am in the process of making minor modifications and thought I'd turn to the list to see if anyone has a set of Thin Gripster pedals (silver/gray or black) that they'd like to trade toward any of the items listed below. Otherwise, the proceeds from any sales will go toward buying some pedals (and maybe a set of Albastache bars) from Riv. The list: 1) 2 Nitto T bottle cages - these came on the Atlantis and are too nice for me -- $80 shipped for the pair http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bop/5519258012.html 2) 3 700x35 skinwall folding Pasela Tourguard tires - two were mounted on the Atlantis (minor wear and very clean sidewalls) and one is new in the box -- $60 shipped http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bop/5520396467.html 3) 46/30 crank - mismatched Sugino arms (left is an XD, right is a 94/58 that has a similar profile and finish), both rings are made by Vuelta and have fewer than 200 miles on them (outer is silver, inner is black), comes with an extra 44T outer (Origin8 brand, never used) -- $75 shipped http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bop/5478434739.html 4) 8 speed Shimano bar end shifters - used for a couple hundred miles -- $50 shipped (or $60 with a set of Tiagra aero brake levers - some scuffs and scratches, but nothing too bad) http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bop/5519258012.html I'm in San Francisco and am happy to offer discounts for local pick up and/or the purchase of multiple items. Paypal Friends & Family is preferred for payment. Thanks, Eric -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] New to me Atlantis
After years of resisting a persistent Atlantis craving, I finally gave in and purchased one that included a little beausage. Since my partial build is now on hold waiting for more parts, there's nothing to do but share a couple of partial build photos...and try to replace impatience with eager anticipation... https://www.flickr.com/photos/28889177@N06/15853217122/in/photostream/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/28889177@N06/15828023196/in/photostream/ This acquisition rounds out my quiver. The Quickbeam primarily has city duty, the A. Homer Hilsen will see the most use on my typical weekend rural road rides, and the Atlantis will be for the occasional rough stuff bike. I can easily load up any of them for a picnic or an S24O. Just about perfect for me. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Re: [RBW] New to me Atlantis
Cool! Original lugs! (I think there have been three lug-types over the years: yours, smooth with no points, and current pointy.) Dear Chris, Congratulations on the bike. I look forward to seeing more photos as the build progresses. As I age, I find the anticipation almost as good as the thing anticipated. My Atlantis, which has the same lug work as yours, remains my favorite bike. Wishing you countless happy miles. Stance. I love that fat tire look. I have patinated cranks and (unpatinated) front derailleurs if you need them for the build. [RBW] New to me Atlantis
Superlatives are inadequate. I am thrilled and contented with my Atlantis. This bike makes me want to just ride and ride and ride and ride. My thanks to Matt Gilkey (for a great transaction on the frame, fork,hs, and stem) and Peter G (handlebars and both sets of brake levers.). Brian Tester answered my many questions on parts with much patience. Thanks to his advice the bike came together well. Any problems rest solely with the mechanic (me). The bike rides amazingly well. Already owning a Surly LHT, I was unprepared for such a fabulous ride: quick, steady, nimble. I assumed the ride of LHT and the Atlantis would be the same. In defense of my Surly, it is loaded down with racks and Saddlesacks full of too much stuff. The 26x2.15 Big Apples give the same supple ride as the 26x2.35s on my Surly. I haven't ridden drop bars in over 20 years, but I find the Noodles incredibly comfortable for long distances. The Surly will remain for commuting and the Atlantis will be ridden on long weekend and the ocassional weekday rambles! Over the last two days I rode 100 miles around D.C. and along the CO Canal. Here are some photos from out in the wild: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjFPBw5e I rode on mixed use trails, the gravel CO canal towpath, and roads. The Atlantis handled all surfaces and situations well. I will stop gushing, though I could not be more pleased with a bike. Bar tape arrives Monday! I should also thank this group for the generous sharing of knowledge. Thanks. Erl, I am so happy you like the bike. The build looks awesome! I really like how the bike looks with those big apples. I am glad to see the Atlantis went to a good home. I hope you have many more enjoyable miles with the bike. -Matt -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Took a break in my morning errands to snap a few pics of my new (to me) 58 cm Atlantis. Trying a compact double crank on it (46/34). Really liking the Acorn Boxy Rando bag. Re: [RBW] new (to me) Atlantis
Congratulations, Forrest. A bike that has beauty and utility along with style a fair amount of speed. Excellent choice and nice set-up. Let us hear more about the compact double on that bike.
