Re: [RBW] Re: An Appaloosa build video
The grips are a generic LBS brand I've had in the spare parts pile for forever and I can't remember, I'm sorry. They aren't very comfortable and I often use them to make sure I'm happy with a handlebar setup before doing anything more permanent because they are bolt ons. Which was the case here as I glued on some cork grips shortly after. The cables are a story, actually. They are 'sport level' braided Jagwire cables. The shifter cables completely failed in under 200kms as parts of the linear cable came loose and ran through the ferrule. Concertina style. Could have been the cheap aluminium ferrules or the fact that Jagwire now makes everything in china instead of taiwan. Failed on both front and rear shifters and a third time after I initially replaced the front one when it failed the first time. The brake cables failed shortly after by bending at 90 degrees at the ferrule for some unknown reason. I haven't used Jagwire cables for 10 years and now I never will again. So I went back to using Shimano cables with Brass ferrules and haven't had a problem since, of course. So grips: unknown. Cables: Jagwire sport. Recommendations: don't use either! Thanks Jaden! The bad footage thankfully was cut out. :) Over 15 years of seriously wrenching on bikes, constantly changing parts and trying new things and nice stuff does tend to pile up. The Appaloosa still isn't technically the finished build I had planned as I am *still* waiting on the last parts to build its intended wheelset. Building bikes in the last few years has gotten harder, slower and a lot more expensive. Forces creativity though and that has been fun. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. Brendon, That was a wonderful video. I didn't think any of the footage was bad, and you should give your partner props, they did a great job editing. I did laugh at the "parts bin" comment in the video description; I wish I had a parts bin like that! What a barrage of positivity! Thank you, everyone. I will have to get used to building bikes with a camera in the way I guess? Eric, good eye! I didn't realise my cap was even in the video. The spacers are some 4-5mm axle mods that came with a random Ebay jockey wheel set. I wish I knew where to get them seperately because they turned out to be very useful. I have also used them in nitto struts to centre them. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
