Re: [RBW] Re: Cheviot questions

2021-05-15 Thread JRStern11 via RBW Owners Bunch
I have the original tektro side pull that Riv sold at the time for the Bleriot,
I assume the Silver are the same but private labeled. My right knee had a
replacement almost 3 years ago, I was not one of the lucky ones who bounced
back really easily. I ride but pay the piper afterwards but more my back than
knee. I get some RFA treatments and it seems to help my back. My replaced knee
just had a treatment but it is too soon to tell. I fear one day lifting it over
the TT may become an issue but it is not a problem at this point.

Thanks for the info. I have np even disappointed in Soma’s Customer Service,
maybe those Tekro brakes Riv is selling are different than the ones I have, or
maybe the bike or maybe the Bleriot just does not have much extra clearance. I
had Berthoud fenders on it but they always seemed a pain.

The Tektro R559’s are the same as the Riv Silver side pulls. The latter are
no longer made and Tektro has taken the design mainstream.

Without fenders, I think you'd be fine clearing a 650bx50 on the smaller
model. (From my experience, Riv is rather conservative on their max tire
 size recommendations.)

Not sure what your PBH is but another option would be a 45cm Clem L
(48.5 chainstays) which can fit up to 26x2.4" tires with a V-brake or
 cantis.

2021-05-15 Thread exliontamer
My wife's Bleriot has those Dia Compe center pulls(which work incredibly
well) and I've fit 42s fendered under there but every twig she ran over got
caught up in the fenders. It looks like Soma still sells the Riv side
pulls
https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/product/rivendell-silver-73mm-caliper-f-r-set-2863?category=169

but I think these are the same thing
https://www.rivbike.com/collections/braking/products/brakes-sidepull-tektro-r559-allen
I'm not trying to fuel anything here but I have shoulder issues and riding
upright really helped me out. I'd never presume to know what your knee
issues are like but I think the Yves, Betty, Cheviot, or Platypus would be
a nice choice for something like that.

Re: [RBW] Re: Cheviot questions

2021-05-15 Thread exliontamer
Found an old chart and 650x45mm is the maximum stated width. The bikes seem
to be designed around those wide mouth Riv sidepull brakes and the
clearance on those is pretty bonkers. I'm riding 38s(I have a 60cm frame)
and have a massive amount of room. I know the Platypus has even more room
and is a very similar design if 45mm isn't enough tire for you. Also, the
top tube is long so if you're not cool with upright bars it may not be a
good choice.
As far as recommending one, I couldn't say enough nice things about it.
It's my favorite bike I've owned and the step through makes everything
easier. It handles absurdly well at every speed. It's just a fun,
comfortable bike that I want to ride. It's definitely everything I like
about Rivendell(inclusive, non-aggressive, versatile, good looking, fun)
wrapped up in a neat package.

Thanks Pam, I wish I was closer but you have helped with the clearance question.

Much appreciated,

 comment on this?

Right now I have 2 Rivs with toptubes and am fine with them. A step thru
might be nice if one of these can be found.. a knee replacement and
bad back might make this viable.

Your info on this bike especially the tire clearance would be appreciated.
I am not a fan of the long chainstay models. Fenders would not be used, I
 ride in dry conditions.

 Thank you

Thanks Justin. If I decided to try and find one the 50 would be the right size.
I know my 55cm Bleriot with sidepull cannot take 48mm tires. I thought it was
the brakes.

[RBW] Re: Cheviot questions

2021-05-14 Thread Justin Kennedy (Brooklyn, NY)
I can't comment on the 50cm Chev, but I have 700x50 tires on my 60cm with a
Tektro R559 sidepull in the rear and there's plenty of clearance. Without
fenders, I think you'd be fine clearing a 650bx50 on the smaller model.
(From my experience, Riv is rather conservative on their max tire size
recommendations.)

Not sure what your PBH is but another option would be a 45cm Clem L (48.5
chainstays) which can fit up to 26x2.4" tires with a V-brake or cantis.
