[RBW] Re: Custom Riv on the Blug

2015-03-07 Thread Garth
It's my understanding that when the bike is simply labeled as a Rivendell
it's a custom . So while it may have some visual and/or unseen qualities
similar to production models, it is it's own unique very custom make !

LoL .. shoulda used a better cable hanger for the front !

In this case for some-one in India !

Re: [RBW] Re: Custom Riv on the Blug

2015-03-07 Thread Patrick Moore
I doubt it. Customs start at $3,500 the last I heard, and that in Indian
terms is almost RS/- 2.2 lakhs, or almost 220K Rupees. That's frame, fork,
and headset. When I perused the all-India cycling discussion list, whose
name I now forget after having lost all my bookmarks, many of the posters
were asking what they could buy for, say, RS/-25K ... $400.

OTOH, there are so many more Indians nowadays who are cross-cultural,
pan-geographic, and whose finances are Western, and who import the latest
Carbon Fiber, so ... Still, those who can afford to buy bikes expensive by
American standards are few indeed.

But here's a shot of a typical Indian with a double top tube!

Beautiful bike indeed, although not my color preference. Looks more like a
road bike to me, like a large double top tubed Hilson or Atlantis.

Looks kind of like an Appaloosa without the inverted chainstay supports,
although is it long enough to be that? Can't tell for sure but it sure is
nice.

[RBW] Re: Custom Riv on the Blug

2015-03-06 Thread Chris in Redding, Ca.
Hey All,
It is beautiful. So beautiful that I would feel funny riding it. I have
never had such a machine, but I have had several that were close enough
that I am familiar with the feeling. Hard to be inconspicous on that bike.
But I wouldn't mind riding alongside. That would be fun for me.

I keep coming back to the idea of building something very special for my
wife. She is an avid cyclist and has always had 'value' machines rather
than 'just right'. I would love to see my wife on a Riv mixte setup just as
she wants. But I would better enjoy the experience as the mechanic, not the
owner.
