That's perfecto. I like keeping the internal inventory for the next opportunity, anyway. Let me know if you need help with it. My Big Front is currently not on a bike, so I guess let me know if you want to acquire mine. I can guarantee it fit my Appaloosa. Ah, that's interesting about the Big Front Rack. [RBW] Re: Front rack for Appaloosa fork mounts
Nothing wrong with wanting everything. On my recent Rosco Bubbe build, I experienced the benefit of that. I had thought of it as a stripped down minimalist build for my daily commute with a backpack, so I hadn't given much thought to a front rack. When I finished the build, I remembered that I needed something to attach the dynamo lamp onto, and realized that my dynamo lamp was a hanging model, so I needed a front rack. I went shopping in my own internal inventory. Turns out I had four different front racks to choose from off the shelf, and one more that I could have easily swapped from another bike. The rack that I ended up putting on the Rosco Bubbe was a rack I bought off the list when it presented itself. I had no particular bike that needed this rack, but the rack itself was undeniably cool and useful. So I picked it up and turns out voila! I've found a use for it. I had great success using the Nitto Big Front rack on my Appaloosa to support a large Wald basket plus a set of Sackville Backabike rear panniers. That mounts at the dropout and at the mid fork braze ons I am also a huge fan of the Nitto Campee 27F, which is more of a Frenchie front rack with a smaller platform, but with very stylish splayed out removable lowriders. The lowriders don't fit every conceivable pannier, and they are "made to fit" only Ostrich DLX (inexpensive) or Berthoud GB something or other (very expensive). That rack also mounts at the dropout and at the canti-boss if you use the hardware it comes with. Many of us swap out the struts to go to the mid fork braze ons instead. I'm running two of those on bikes right now. Rob at Ocean Air Cycles also shows how to use Surly hardware to secure a Soma Porteur to the upper fork mounts. http://oceanaircycles.com/2013/10/18/upper-porteur-mounting/ This could probably be used with Pass and Stow, and many other racks. shoji On Monday, December 19, 2016 at 3:13:45 PM UTC-5, Joe Bernard wrote: > > Hmm. I have all the parts, haven't installed yet, but I'm planning on putting a Pass and Stow porteur rack back on my Clem using Nitto nuts/bolts/struts to attach to the top of fork crown mounts. Here's another pic, a Mark's rack on an Ocean Air Rambler which has the same mounting points. I had to bend the upper struts outward a little to clear the Racer brake. Extra struts and spacers are available a la cart at Riv if you need them. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v712/pscottm/22F2B844-52DB-4182-817B-0C6B6E68D5B3.jpg -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group. [RBW] Re: Front rack for Appaloosa fork mounts
It requires customization, but my shop did a lovely job adding struts to a Soma stainless porteur rack to brace on fork-top braze-ons. It makes for a really rigid four-point attachment, which is nice when loaded up! /Jeremy On Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 4:02:41 PM UTC-8, Joe Bernard wrote: > > I'm thinking about putting a front rack on Joe Blue and would like to use > those nifty braze-ons on top of the fork. [RBW] Re: Front rack for Appaloosa fork mounts
those mounts are for using a rear rack as a front rack, but Mark's rack also works with them because it uses a second pair of struts. so the forward-most struts connect to the mid mounts, and you can use the rear-most struts to connect to the brazeons on top of the fork (in addition to the diving board plate thing at the fork crown hole). this may require some bending.
