Re: [RBW] Re: Lightest, fastest, comfortablest 622 tires in the 37 to 45 mm range?
The 38mm Schwalbwe Marathon Racers are lighter than the Supremes and arguably more compliant. At the expense of less flat protection. I'm going to give them a try. Didn't know they were available in that width. Thanks! They are. Definitely lighter than the Supremes. Less flat protection but didn't have any problems. Also, in my use, they wear faster than the Supremes. Just pulled the Racers off my Hillborne for a set of Baby Big Bens. Haven't ridden them yet (it's snowing out right now). More tread which is what I'm looking for at present. Regarding fat tires: I'm going to put 35s on the new Ram (bro brought wheelset -- last item!) and I use fat ones on the Fargo and 1.35s on the commuter Riv fixie, but I've been climbing a steep, 1 mile hill on various bikes and I have to say that the 17.5 lb 75 gofast, with sub 200 gram 22 mm 650C (see) skinnies, climbs that hill and all others better than any other bike I own or have owned, and this consistently over 10 years or more. [RBW] Re: Lightest, fastest, comfortablest 622 tires in the 37 to 45 mm range?
I like my Schwalbe Supremes 700x40 (actual about 37mm) both fast (to me) cushy and durable. I have these on my Surly Trucker and would like them on my Hillborne but with fenders they are a little tight on that frame. On Saturday, March 30, 2013 12:51:46 PM UTC-7, Patrick Moore wrote: I know this list is the hotspot for fat-tired-ness. Close to building up the Ram, which will take over some grocery and errand riding from the Fargo, I plan to steal the very, very nice Kojaks from the Fargo to install on the Ram. (STILL waiting for a wheelset -- brother has inched one closer to ABQ, but it's still 100 miles away in Crownpoint, NM.) That leaves the skinny wheelset for the Fargo needing tires: Rhyno Lite 27 mm wide rims. No point in putting skinny 35s back on it; might was well put on something fattter. But not too fat: after all, I have the SnoCat SL/60mm Big Apple Liteskin set, too. So: for a change of pace for the Fargo, for 80% pavement, with a bias toward light, fast, cushy and a bias against sturdy, long-lasting, flat-resistant: what is out there, what do you recommend, and why? I know about the 37 mm Paselas (no Tourguards) and those are on my short list, but I'd like to learn of others. Gracias.
