[RBW] Re: MIT Homer pre-order

2018-08-09 Thread EasyRider
I have an NFE and a Roscoe Road, which is not unlike the MIT Homer, I imagine.
I love them both and they feel quite different to me. The BB drop of the Riv is
very noticeable when I get underway and then the bike disappears under me. The
NFE doesn't toodle as well as the roscoe. It seems to give back what I put into
it. Both bikes are a lot of fun.

2018-08-09 Thread 'Eamon Nordquist' via RBW Owners Bunch
I'd say probably EVERY Rivendell bike, with the exception of maybe the
Roadeo, has longer chainstays than the Elephant NFE. The NFE has 43.5cm
stays in all sizes. With the NFE's low trail geometry, every Riv is going
to feel quite a bit different, not just the new long chainstay models (not
a knock on the NFE or the long bikes).

[RBW] Re: MIT Homer pre-order

2018-08-03 Thread 'Eamon Nordquist' via RBW Owners Bunch
I just saw the samples in person. I was killing time waiting for a flight back
to Seattle this evening, and took BART out to RBW, since I wanted to pickup
some new Dia Compe 610’s.

Will showed me the new Taiwan Homers, and they look great! A little more
upslope, and longer, but proportional to size chainstays. Will did say they
take 27.2 seatpost. These look like a hell of a bike for the money. I am
seriously thinking of getting serious about saving, selling stuff, whatever I
need to do to get one. I didn’t think I’d like the color, but was completely
won over in person. Don’t think there’s any corners cut by being made overseas
- these are beautiful bikes.

Will offered me a test ride, but it was very smoky today, and I have lung
issues, otherwise I expect I’d be telling you how great they ride. I’ve always
wanted an Atlantis, but I may have converted that desire to a Homer.

p.s. the new orange Roadini color looks great, as do the canti Sams.

If the website is accurate (wink!) the Homer takes a 27.2mm seatpost, while
the Sam takes a 26.8mm. That's one tube that has 0.2mm thinner wall
thickness on the Homer, at least at one end...
