[RBW] Re: New Dia Compe 610 Centerpull Brakes?

2018-06-18 Thread lconley
Easily swapped out for the standard style bolt. The rear appears to be
intended for recessed mounting - not easy to find standard style bolts for
that! 750s come with nutted rear, recessed front. Both of these are
intended for front mounting on my bikes. One on my Rosco Bubbe V1 SS with
the as supplied recessed bolt - no fenders. The other will be installed on
the front of my Betty Foy with a standard front recessed mounting bolt and
daruma bolt for fender mounting (rear brake is a sidepull). I will probably
take the rear recessed mounting supplied with the 610 and install it on the
750 centerpull on the back of the Rosco Bubbe. They will all get spherical
mounted brake pads, most likely Tektros that I already have..

Weird - that looks like it would preclude the use of a Sheldon nut for easy

Very interesting attachment hardware. The female part is holds the brake
instead of the male.

[RBW] Re: New Dia Compe 610 Centerpull Brakes?

2018-06-14 Thread lconley
I ordered a set from Japan a while ago and they should be showing up in the
next couple of weeks. I will be using them on the front wheels of a couple
of bikes. - My Betty Foy for better clearance around the front fender
(R-559 side pull on the rear) and on my Rosco Bubbe V1 with a 750 center
pull on the rear. The 610 front/750 rear was common on bikes in the 70s. My
Schwinn Paramounts came this way (Weinmann versions labeled as Weinmann or
Schwinn Approved). The 750s work on the front of the bikes that I am going
to use them on, but I hate the way that the extra brake hanging down below
the pads looks so I am switching them out for 610s.

2018-06-14 Thread Takashi
A bike shop in Japan says they received the brakes on June 2, so it might
require some more time until they land on US.
https://www.velocraft.jp/blog/post-322/
The blog post says "The surfaces of the new DC 610 brakes look nicer than
old ones."

and it's true - I have NOS Weinmann 610s on each end of my '74 Interational
(bought as bare frame), but we had a leverage advantage on our road brake
levers then, and I know moving them to moustache bars gave me even more.
They were new boxed brakes bought separately on ebay, and surprisingly
cheap - $15 ish.

I could live with this.

2018-06-13 Thread Jeremy Tavan
I tried and failed to use these on the Frank Jones Sr. They fit the front
just fine, but nowhere near enough reach for the rear. I've been saving
them for another project, as they're pretty nice looking, though the
rounded edges of the more-retro ones Rivendell's bringing in have an
appeal, too.

That looks like a cnc made caliper, the new forged ones are more rounded in
places.
