Re: [RBW] Re: Okay I get it now.
Anecdote, illustrating how *not* to carry your pets: When I was married my wife and I owned a tandem, to which I fixed a milk crate to carry our two Shi Tzu, fastened down with shortened leashes. One one early ride the female decided to take a dive over the side and ended up hanging by her neck down the left side of the bike, kicking madly. Of course I panicked and hit the brakes, whereupon we all fell over -- on the left side. The dog and the wife were, luckily, not hurt, but it was close. I suffered the usual abrasions and bruises. Thanks. Re: [RBW] Re: Okay I get it now.
One advantage of the front-mount solution to consider is that having your dog in front of you will allow you to talk to and pet him/her etc and thus help ease any anxiety. I have trianed my 15 lb terrier to ride happily in a front wald basket (either rack-supported or with the wald struts -he's too heavy for any cantilever or hanging options) and being able to pet him and give him encouragement - I actually fed him small treats every few minutes in our first rides around the block - was a huge help in getting him comfortable. -Pete in CT On Monday, January 28, 2013 2:04:56 PM UTC-5, Patrick Moore wrote: Thanks. Dirk didn't like riding in the trailer but then I tried riding with him in a messenger bag and he seemed to like that because he was next to me that seemed to calm him down. I'm very happy with the bag, it's not perfect but works well enough. [RBW] Re: Okay I get it now.
You are one tough man, Manny! I love reading about these logistical things for rides because it will help me to just keep riding if I run into difficulty, and not just give up right off the bat. Great to see what can be done with sneakers and a broken shift lever with the right frame of mind. Applause, applause. Sounds like you had a great ride. BTW, you should give that Silver lever to Grant so he can do an autopsy on it and post the results on the blug. He used to do them for broken bikes/parts in the Rivreaders. Would be fun to see the report on it. When you hand it to him, tell him it just died under you. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. Manny a Lesser cyclist would have called it a day, you forged ahead, good job! The sense of camaraderie is hard to explain when it comes to a randonneur event. Cycling as much as it's an individual sport there's a sense of teamwork and hardship that you share with the the same people you see on the road that makes you understand their experience in some way. Good start of any rides always end up with something breaking. Today? Broken right shifter. Wasn't really that bad. I had threeish usable gears in the rear and I still had my triple in the front. Figured I would deal with it some how. Couldn't really bother burdening people with my mechanical failure so I rode mostly on my own. But here's the beauty of a randonneur event you never really ride on your own. Along the way I would pick up or get picked up by great variety of people. Highlights? Got to jokingly yell at Esteban to pick up the pace which he actually did I didn't seem him on the ride again. Got to meet Mr.Eric Norris and picked his brain about his experience with the PBP. Got no sympathy from Chris who was riding the whole ride fixed. Got to pick up then get dropped then pick up again Doug with his bright green Got dropped by Gaby a numerous of times. Got to talk to Juliayn about the wondering healing properties of whistling. Got to see Joe B. and Will riding towards the lighthouse. Got tons of time on the road where I got to ride basically on my own and marvel at how amazing it is to ride so far on my own. Pretty snazzy group I feel like a better rider and a better person because I got to ride with such a awesome group. Pictures prove that hard rides to nowhere and back are still pretty nice: http://flic.kr/s/aHsjDLNf22 -Manny I guess I'm doing this on a three speed Acosta -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group.
