I have a set of 700's for trade if interested (both dyno or not)

Joe, my PBH is 84.5cm, I’m 6’0” tall. It does feel a little long but nothing I
could adjust with a different stem and bra. Currently have 80mm technomix stem
with 56cm steel Albatross bars ... reach is a little long with baby in the
seat, UT feels good without the baby seat. I’ll adjust a little or swap on
Bosco bars for a little more sweep back. Really enjoyed this project and the
ride is sweet (with a sweetie).

Everyone who said, “the derailleur clamp size is 31.8mm, it’s a double butted
seat tube so your caliper measurement was wrong because it was too high on the
tube” ... you were right! 34.9 mm to 31.8 mm shim from the local bike store and
then we were in action! This is more than just a baby bike, it’s a very stout
but also feels like lots of other riv bikes. It was very comfortable to stop
with the bike and the baby. That’s the main thing, but a big part of that is
being able to step forward between the baby seat and the nose of the saddle,
it’s a great trick compared to my Cheviot which just can’t compete for baby
seat riding. The Schwalbe G one tires are super floaty and fun, I have been
wanting to try them for a long time and they really beat all my expectations.
Tried some on the hillibikes at Rivendell yesterday, the whole round version
and it was great. I got to speed version for the baby bike since I don’t
anticipate too much Too much dirt writing, they are huge!

2019-12-21 Thread Pancake
Success! Got a nice wheelset from Joe Bunik and nearly finished with the
quick and dirty build up of the Rosco Baby for a first ride this morning.

I was missing two parts:

   - 1 x 650b / 27.5" tube - should've bought at Riv! I only had one on
hand yesterday as I assembled the bike.
   - Crazy shim? The seatpost external diameter is 32.4mm ... what? There's
no derailleur clamp for that size? I ground down my old shim about half
it's size to make a poor DIY shim, but I need something to replace it ...
this one was a surprise for me! Anyone know more about the proper
derailleur clamp size for the Baby? It's a 29.8mm seatpost, my callipers
show 32.4mm external diameter on the seat tube ... what the heck derailleur
clamp and shim should I be using? I'll call Riv today an ask, but any ideas
   in the meantime?

Pics to follow I hope!

2019-12-17 Thread Pancake
Real world review, perfect! However, I’m hoping for a wheel set that can take
up to 60mm tires. I think we’re gonna run this thing pretty plush and wide. I’m
now in touch with a couple members about their Alex wheelsets trying to sort
out prices and details. But I’m still hoping that something even closer to
ideal pops up, hopefully with a slightly wider rim but I understand from Jan‘s
blog and others that these 18.4mm rims would probably be fine even with a
substantially larger tire like 55mm.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone, feeling confident we’ll get
something sorted soon.

2019-12-17 Thread Pancake
Hi Justin,
Byways could be very nice, but I'll have to take a raincheck as several of
the not-quite-ideal offers I've got so far include tires and I'm still not
settled on a wheelset.

So far the offers have all been:
(1) are a little narrow of a rim (like AMAC above, though he's my backup
plan for now) or
(2) in 130mm rear spacing (which I understand may be possible to use with a
couple 2mm spacers) but I 'm
*holding out hope for something that is a little wider rim and in 135mm
rear spacing. *

Anyone holding 135mm old rear wheel with a wider rim for 45-65mm tires?

Thanks for all the helpful replies and messages, I'm feeling better that
we'll end up with something good for our project!
Abe

Those might work well, though I understand the Alex DM18 has an internal
width of 18.4mm which is a bit on the narrow side for this project, but
workable. I'll switch over to email from here.

Please keep the options coming - I'll post here if these work out.

[RBW] Re: WTB: 650b wheelset, long-reach brakes

2012-10-25 Thread lungimsam

Nothing to sell, but some advice to peddle.

If you do not live near an LBS that keeps 650b wheels/rims/tires in stock,
think about buying extras of these when the wallet allows, or you could be
in for quite a wait to replace any if needed. Especially if you prefer one
brand/model of 650b product over another.

Otherwise, have fun with the conversion and wheels. I have a 560b bike that
is great, but been off it for a month now while I am waiting to get a new
rim replacement for a damaged one. Velocity distributor just got them back
in stock, so the LBS should get it soon and have it all strung up and eady
to rolll, I hope.
