[RBW] Re: scouting East Canyon
Evan, Great pictures! I'm always up for a planned Riv ride where ever. Perhaps Mike has a point about other rides just North of Newhall. ~Hugh On Saturday, July 13, 2013 11:55:38 AM UTC-7, Evan Spacht wrote: Hi folks, While it was Flickr friends that introduced me to the RivOwnerBunch, this is my first venture into sharing my photosets here on the forum. Strava says that my overall elevation gain was 2,700 ft. although I'm not sure of my final altitude. My big epiphany on this ride: just when you think you are familiar with a particular trail you will discover a handful of things you hadn't noticed or experienced before. After lowering my tire pressure for the rough descent, reaching the bottom of the hill without any problems (except sliding out in spot - which seems to happen everytime here), I attempted to reinflate the tube. I'm not sure exactly sure if it is a broken valve or what, but this caused a flat. This was my first time getting a flat out in the wild, oddly enough, and I packed a 700c instead of 650b tube! Re: [RBW] Re: scouting East Canyon
I'm in total agreement; it's more of a hiking trail but fun, nonetheless. I personally find the trail a bit too steep and rocky for an enjoyable descent. Keep me posted on fall destinations and count me in. -Evan On Saturday, July 13, 2013 8:50:19 PM UTC-7, Mike Schiller wrote: except that it's a short ride ( 45 min.) to the top and no where to go from there except down to the San Fernando Valley. Definitely looks to be Rivendell turf. What town is close by? Nice to see those late afternoon sunset shots. That means you took advantage of all the daylight. dougP On Saturday, July 13, 2013 11:55:38 AM UTC-7, Evan Spacht wrote: Hi folks, While it was Flickr friends that introduced me to the RivOwnerBunch, this is my first venture into sharing my photosets here on the forum. [RBW] Re: scouting East Canyon
East Canyon is just west of Newhall in LA County. I've ridden that dirt road at least 50 times... a nice climb in oak trees. At the top there is an intersection that can take you to Mission Peak with great views of the San Fernando Valley. This land was acquired by the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy about 10 years ago. ~mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups RBW Owners Bunch group. [RBW] Re: scouting East Canyon
I suggest this should be on the short list for fall rides. dougP On Saturday, July 13, 2013 2:14:13 PM UTC-7, Mike Schiller wrote: East Canyon is just west of Newhall in LA County.
