[RBW] Rivendell tandem builds

2019-06-03 Thread Paul Burns
How did they all work out? How do you like the tandems? Things you would
change in your build? Things you love? PICS?

[RBW] Rivendell tandem builds

2017-03-06 Thread Daniel Jackson
I really can't wait for our large sage tandem with Paul components levers and
brakes (motolites and a klamper), compass tires, son lighting, choco bars,
Honjo fenders, and duel sprung brooks saddles.

Still thinking about gearing but most likely friction 2 x 10

Gonna be rad this summer on some VT dirt and a little third 3 year old rider
towed behind.

[RBW] Rivendell tandem builds

2017-03-06 Thread Tony DeFilippo
Can't wait to see the builds. Every time I read about the HHH I have to remind
myself that my Burley tandem is more than sufficient for the limited tandem
riding my wife and I do... But it's still tempting especially the promise of
fat tires...

I'm going to swap out the current mustache bars for a Jones Loop this season as
well as I'm wanting to mount the front kid seat and make it a 'triple'.

Tony

[RBW] Rivendell tandem builds

2017-03-04 Thread lconley
Orange small frame, silver cranks w/ Phil Wood BBs, MKS sneaker pedals, Rich
built wheels,- 40 spoke w/ Phil Wood rear, SON front dynohub, Paul skewers (yes
you can get a 145), Paul brakes - cantilever front, touring cantilever rear,
Klamper disc, Sun XCD rear derailleur (only polished silver rear that I know),
IRD Alpina front derailleur, 12-34 9 spd cassette, Wipperman SS 9 spd chains,
VO Nitto/Fairweather Bullmoose front handlebars. All ordered, some delivered.
Waiting to see what tires Rivendell offers - I will go fat as possible. Not
sure on shifters and brake levers yet but they will be silver in color. Not
sure on fenders till I see the tire choices - I have very wide SS Berthouds
over the 50 mm Big Bens on my Bombadil, but I don't think they would cover 60s.
Not a Clem style build.

Hi all,

I was wondering if any prospective Rivendell tandem owners would be willing
to share what they were thinking about for their builds.

I'm trying really hard to justify this! Our current tandem is set up w/
Albas, B67/68 saddles, and 700X38C Little Big Bens. It's very Riv-approved.
But I LOVE the idea of getting a tandem that can fit 650X60B tires on it!
The thing is, we ride our tandem maybe four times a year, so the cost/mile
is pretty high on getting a fancy new one.
But yeah, really thinking about it!

[RBW] Rivendell Tandem

2016-06-16 Thread Michael Hechmer
A recent posting on the Tandem at Hobbes List described an encounter with
GP and two Rivendell prototype tandems. Fabulous. There are still too
many tamdemistas riding on 28mm tires and mesmerized by lighter means
faster. We ride a number of tandem rallies each summer and increasingly
see that they are filled with more mature riders. open to a more
comfortable ride, so I think there is an opportunity to expand the Riv
philosophy to them. Now the market is dominated by Santana and Co-Motion
both of whom seem inclined to push the latest invention over common sense.
There are good custom builders who make very ridable bikes, like Bilenky,
and no shortage of custom builders selling $20,000 CF, magnesium, and
bamboo bikes with electronic shifting. That leaves a big window for a
practical, fun tandem.

As an aside, during the recent Canadian Tandem Rally, on a blistering hot
day, we found ourselves struggling to stay up with a couple, who appeared
to be about 10 years older than us. They were riding a recumbent, which
are notoriously slow going up hill and I kept thinking I would overtake
them on the next short hill. It never happened, and I thought I just gotta
loose 30 lbs.. When we got back to the Ramada and were putting our bikes
away all four of us looked exhausted. Then I looked down and saw the
electric motor on the back of their bike. I almost felt better!

[RBW] Rivendell tandem question

2016-02-07 Thread David Sprunger
Hi. I read with interest the recent blug post about forward movement on the
Rivendell tandem project. Grant invited people to email him if they wanted
to be added to a list of interested parties, but he did not give his email
address. It used to be gr...@rivbike.com, but my message to that address
bounced back. The email directory for Rivendell does not include an email
link for Grant anymore either.

Does anyone know of another way to be added to the tandem information list?

Thanks,

And a coupled, long chain stay tourer also sounds like a neat bike.

Re: [RBW] Rivendell Tandem (30 of them, actually) in about one year.

2015-07-26 Thread iamkeith
Just speculating of course, but I took that as a typo for what should have
read:

*Next year also, by internal popular vote, each of these models will come
in one color only:*

*Sam Hillborne*

*Cheviot*

*Clem H*

*Clem L*

*Joe Appaloosa (new tourish bike that splits *[the difference,
functionally, between the first and last in the above list of models)]*
that’ll be offered complete and with a fancy new bar and some other stuff.*

Given what they've mentioned as the target price for the Joe Appaloosa
completes, and the fact that any buyer call always ADD couplers but can
never patch a frame back together after the fact, I'd be pretty surprised
if it came stock with them installed. Unless...

...Wonder what a double-triangle frame would look like with a second tube
installed parallel to the *seat* tube. That's just the kind of craziness I
could believe might come from Rivendell. It would sure solve the expensive
shipping issue. ;-)
