Re: [RBW] Wald 257 rack

2017-09-01 Thread Shawn Granton
I've had a Wald 257 on my Raleigh Crested Butte for over a year and LOVE
IT. It is quite the heavy-duty rack, and HEAVY (I'm guessing about 8
pounds) but it definitely hauls the stuff.

As for the struts being "flimsy": I STRONGLY disagree. The struts are stout
and also adjustable, so a variety of heights can be accommodated. I'm
guessing that the struts are steel, but I won't know for sure until I go
home to check. And it also makes a convenient place to mount a light.

For those of you comparing this rack to other Wald baskets: *It's
different. *Everything is beefier, including the tubing on the "basket"
part, and the struts.

yours,
Shawn

I had a large wald basket on my gen 1 Fargo, but I added and customized the
struts. It ended up being being very sturdy. I used double opposing struts
underneath for triangulation, and the rear upper rail had struts down to the
upper bottle mounts on the rear of the fork. A double diving board bracket went
from the fork crown bolt to beneath the rack and fender.

Strange that the struts would be less than the solid standard steel. My
original Cetma used wald struts and mounting hardware. Maybe someonw has a 5
rail Cetma they would part with.

[RBW] Wald 257 rack

2017-08-30 Thread drew
If my memory is correct, the arms are a very non-sturdy feeling aluminum. The
one I had was used and more wobbly than I like. I never put much weight on it,
so it was fine, but it was eventually replaced. I think cetmas are steel, I've
never had one though.

[RBW] Wald 257 rack

2017-08-30 Thread scott
Has anyone used this rack? I used to have a really early Cetma rack and loved
it. It attached the same way and could haul more weight than a sane person
could need. Wondering if the Wald was similar.
