Re: [RBW] Back to that doggy backpack

2013-02-19 Thread Jim Mather
Gradual introduction of new things combined with rewards is best for high
strung pets. Leave the pack open and put something familiar to him in it --
towel, chew toy, etc. And then reward him with a treat when he approaches
the pack, gets in it, etc. Once he's comfortable getting in the pack on his
own, try picking him up in it and rewarding him for that.

Not quite so off topic since one reason for buying the Timbuktu pet

it. I managed to stuff him in and slam the lid with help from my
brother, and he stayed still, if tense, but trying to get him in by
myself is like trying to thread a needle with a thistle. Nico is also
very reluctant to get into a car.

Does anyone have any *experience* about humanely habituating a dog to
be carried in this way? Or is it a lost cause and ought I to return
the thing before the month's deadline is out? (Or I could just keep it
to carry other things in ...)

 Thanks.

Re: [RBW] Back to that doggy backpack

2013-02-19 Thread Ron Mc
I know my cat will crawl into any container that is open to her, but that
is also a cat thing. But to get her to ride, I semi-permanently strapped
her basket to a chair and put catnip in the bottom.
Is there a way to can set it up so the dog can crawl into the pack on his
own and retrieve a treat you leave for him?

Patrick,
Has Nico bitten you yet?
You have chosen a path this is not likely to lead to success.
Were I Nico I'd have sure bitten you by now!
