Re: [RBW] Re: Handlebar suggestions for the Hunq

2016-12-24 Thread Patrick Moore
Thanks, all. So the answer is clearly "Yes and No."

Chris: agree wholeheartedly about body position: that's why high and close
up for M bars doesn't work for me (low and far is only a bit better,
though). Saddle angle is fine.

I'll pass on the Albastaches until and unless I find a used on on sale very
cheap. Meanwhile, I'm due to receive a stem extender device for the Dahon
stem that will give me a couple more inches of reach, and perhaps that will
make the M bar a bit more comfortable.

I'd install a drop bar, but that would make folding awkward -- I think.

20 people, 20 answers. Grin. I experienced a vast difference between the
Moustache and the new Moustache (aka Albastache). Don't recall the details,
but I loved it at first, then after a fairly short time did not like them
at all.

With abandon,

2016-12-24 Thread Bob K.
Patrick Moore,

In my experience, yes, although I was using the wrong stem with the M and I use
the right one (80 Technomic) with the A. The main differences are that the A is
an inch longer on each side and the reach is less. I like the A so, so much
better than M.

I found no difference in comfort between the Moustache and Albastache bars. The
curve where the brake levers sit puts a pressure on the outer edge of my palms
which creates a bad tingling after only a few miles.

Re: [RBW] Re: Handlebar suggestions for the Hunq

2016-12-24 Thread Patrick Moore
A related question: I've tried the original road-brake-lever-type Moustache
bars at least half a dozen times; presently I have them on the Hon Solo.
I've tried them closer and higher but find that in this way I'm supporting
more weight on my palms than when they are positioned lower and farther
away. My left palm is very sensitive, so much so that the only bar I've
found to be really comfortable is the road drop bar.

I'd try a drop bar on the Hon Solo except that these would make folding
harder. So, here's my question: does the Albastache bar reduce hand
pressure? I realize that the answer involves a large number of variables,
but on the whole, for those who have used both the original M bar and the
A: is the A less likely to hurt your hands, all else equal?

2016-12-24 Thread Robert Keal
Another possibility that is similar the the Jones in terms of angles is the
Surly Open Bar. It comes in 25.4. I used it on a vintage mtb build that I
took on a pretty challenging off-road tour in VA this past summer. There
are a couple of hand positions. I didn't have any numbness after hours in
the saddle.
