Re: [RBW] My new Roadeo

2015-10-04 Thread James Warren
I love reading reports like this.

And regarding clearance, Riv used to show a Roadeo set up nicely with Jack
Browns and fenders. It might even be on their Roadeo page.

I do find the flat ramp (and, note, that I have the ends of the hooks
horizontal, so that the ramp is even flatter) on the Noodle a bit odd and,
if the bar weren't half an inch to an inch above saddle, it would be
uncomfortable indeed.

I do like the hooks of the Noodle; again, bottoms level. Better than the
similarly placed, similar width (46) anatomical bump in the middle of the
Salsa Bell Laps hooks that so annoys me after 8 miles or so.

I can see how the 185s would be more comfortable for riders who like
lower bars; the angle of the ramp is probably similar to a Noodle at
saddle height or higher. Riding a Noodle bar set very low might even
put too much bend in your wrists for comfort.

Patrick, what about the 185's do you prefer over the Noodle's? Is it
that you dislike the Noodle flat ramp?

Lovely; and exactly my size. I'd swap out the Brooks for a Flite, old style,
and the Noodles for 44 cm 185s (and lower them considerably) on an 8 cm
Pearl; and use Looks of some sort. Probably a 32/46 or so and a
14-15-16-17-18-19-21-24 8 speed with the 46 set up centered on the cassette;
or hell, just a single 46 t ring; that would give me a 51" bottom gear which
is far lower than the 66" to 75" that I climb in now. I bet I could break 20
lb without trying. 23 mm tires, of course.

But no, I shall resist. My next bike will be one to replace my Modified
Monocog and the Sam Hill, a touring bike that will take 70 mm tires and
fenders.
