Re: [RE-wrenches] Morningstar Sure Sine On/Off switch

2017-03-07 Thread Chris Schaefer
Hey Wayne,
Any of the electrical industrial suppliers for controls will offer a push
button with multiply options for contacts. Then you've got momentary or
maintained contacts. So many options. Automation Direct, Idec, Omron,
Allen-Bradly and Square D to name a few.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Net Metering

2017-03-07 Thread Jerry Shafer
Hawaii is currently closed to new applications, existing approved and
executed NEM's are still good for the time being but as we have seen in
Cailfornia they are looking at swiching over to TOU which favors the
utility in some to most cases.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Conduit Bushings

2017-03-07 Thread August Goers
If I understood Peter’s original email properly, he noted that the ground
bushings had been “broken” to facilitate installation. If indeed regular
ground bushings had been modified or cut then that would violate the
correct installation methods. Here is a regular ground bushing:

If they actually installed the split-type retrofit style bushings, such as
the one below, then there shouldn’t be a problem:

I would cite NEC 250.97 Bonding for Over 250 Volts (4) Listed fittings. A
listed fitting must be used to bond the metal raceway. A modified or broken
ground bushing is not a listed fitting.

Peter,

Bridgeport makes both split ring grounding bushings and plastic bushings in
that size. No threading on to the connector required.

at the connectors on the ends of 2” LFMC. The PV source conductors got
secured and we saw bushings threaded onto the ends LFMC connectors.

Upon close inspection we discovered that the bushings had been broken at
one point on their circumference, no doubt to simplify their attachment.
Their were 11 PV source circuits (22 current-carrying 10 AWG PV Wire
conductors.)

Is this a NEC Code violation? If so, what section would we cite? It seems
obvious that the bushing had been “modified”, but I would like to be more
specific. Or does it come under the workmanship category?

Re: [RE-wrenches] Net Metering

2017-03-07 Thread Marco Mangelsdorf
Aloha Drake.

Yes, our PUC in its ultimate wisdom, ended our 14-year very successful
(80,000+ customers) NEM program back in October 2015. That said, a lot of
us are still installing NEM systems since the Hawaiian Electric companies
have been (in my opinion) bending over backward to allow homeowners to get
their conditionally approved NEM systems installed and operational. But
that's coming to an end in the months to come.

The PUC grandfathered all those NEM systems, so all of us lucky enough to
have NEM golden tickets can still provide surplus PV power back to the grid
and receive full retail credit.

Right now we are the first state in the country (the freakin' bleeding edge)
where new interconnect agreements (customer self supply or self consumption)
do not allow for any export. Hence the need for batteries.

Hence the dire state of our once thriving PV industry.
