Does anyone know when LG chem batteries for Storedge inverters are going
to be available? I’ve heard nothing new for months thanks.

Ray:

The entire board was not damaged. There is a significant scorch mark at
the connector and immediate area, but the inverter still works. We moved
the start leads to the other Radian and all is well.

Outback does not list the daughter board for sale, only the entire board
stack, and that is $2,500.00. Outback was supposed to reply if they could
sell just the daughter board but never got back to me. I need to call them
back and press the point.

Jay (and list) - SolarEdge bought 75% of Kokam for $88 million.

BYD is a $17 billion (2017) company, and is the largest battery cell
manufacturer in the world.

The BYD Battery-Box HV is supported by the SMA Sunny Boy Storage (SBS), but not
the StorEdge currently. UL listing of the Battery Box HV is in process, and
they should be available shortly as another option for the SBS in addition to
the LG Chem RESU 10H (type C).

2018-12-14 Thread Dave Angelini Offgrid Solar
The 10H for 400vdc is out there. The 48v RESU are not in NA. They came out
with a 13.4 kwh 48v for the EU and orient/down under but they just have not
really made the leap for offgrid. I was ready to sell many of them and lost
sales because their engineers kust did not understand offgrid.

I have no interest in the 400v storage and can't help you much other than
to say contact Storedge. An LG chem sales engineer asked me why I do not
and I said the last thing I would want is an inverter faulting 400v into my
AC appliances and devices.

My 48v LG after 2 years of daily cycling is still at 99% state of life.
If I needed another I would have a friend in Australia ship it here. An
amazing product that just needed a little more development to protect it
from an XW+ being able drive AC into a short circuit:)

Re: [RE-wrenches] Interesting gen start problem

2018-12-14 Thread Ray
I've had problems with several manufacturers' onboard relays, and 12 v
outputs.  For instance I now always use a 2nd relay controlled by the
onboard relay, even for little things like Zephyr Power Vents.  If you
look at the new relays compared to say the old Trace SW relays, they're
just not near the same.

That's concerning that over current would fry the whole Radian control
board.   On Midnite Classics, if you exceeded the 200mA 12v output, it
just shut the output off.

Friends:
While I’d like to think I have seen everything, I came across this
scenario recently that surprised me:
We replace an existing FX system that had a generator component.
Since the
FX inverter can only provide 12 volts for generator start, and we
did not see a relay in the power room, we assumed there was a 12
volt coil relay in the generator room.  Turns out this was not the
case.
Generators use the cranking battery voltage (B+) to power control
circuits.  The B+ to start control relays is completed by a
contact closure.  In this case, there was no relay.  Instead the
original installer use the 12 volts from the FX inverters to
provide substitute B+ to the generator control circuitry.
The end result is we burned up the Radian control board.
Apparently the FX inverter had enough 12 volt capability to make
this work, but the Radians did not.
When we began troubleshooting, our first clue something was wrong
was that there was no relay.  Our second clue was that one of
the12 volt start leads was grounded. We also burned up a relay in
the generator.
I hope this little cautionary tale helps one of you avoid a burned
up control board someday, somewhere. This problem was a big headache.
William
PS: Here is a web page

on this particular installation.  On this project we incorporated
some of the GSLC wiring innovations discussed in this forum.

Friends: While I’d like to think I have seen everything, I came across this scenario recently that surprised me:   We replace an existing FX system that had a generator component.  Since the FX inverter can only provide 12 volts for generator start, and we did not see a relay in the power room, we assumed there was a 12 volt coil relay in the generator room.  Turns out this was not the case. Generators use the cranking battery voltage (B+) to power control circuits.  The B+ to start control relays is completed by a contact closure.  In this case, there was no relay.  Instead the original installer use the 12 volts from the FX inverters to provide substitute B+ to the generator control circuitry.   The end result is we burned up the Radian control board.  Apparently the FX inverter had enough 12 volt capability to make this work, but the Radians did not. When we began troubleshooting, our first clue something was wrong was that there was no relay.  Our second clue was that one of the12 volt start leads was grounded.  We also burned up a relay in the generator. I hope this little cautionary tale helps one of you avoid a burned up control board someday, somewhere.  This problem was a big headache. William PS:  Here is a web page on this particular installation.  On this project we incorporated some of the GSLC wiring innovations discussed in this forum. Wm Lic 773985millersolar.com805-438-5600  ___
