Re: [RE-wrenches] Schneider Phone Support
We tried to use their phone support yesterday from an off grid site whose system was down and were directed to their online support services as well. Not happy with the results and wasted man hours that ensued as the tech had to complete online applications while in questionable cell coverage area. Then wait for confirming email. The day was done before we were able to move forward. I filled out an on line form, as a professional, to be able to get phone support. Schneider sent me an email with two numbers to call, and neither of them worked. One did not connect to anything and the other gave me the original message saying to fill out the form for tech support. Using their on-line support has been limited in its usefulness, with a lot of runaround. No one there will answer any questions about phone support availability. The timing of this is interesting, as I was on the verge of using Schneider as my go-to brand for battery based equipment. . One Wrench posting from a while back that stuck in my head was, "before buying equipment, call their tech support to see how good it is." Does anyone know if phone support still exists? We are looking to specify DC refrigerators and PV-powered battery storage for the River Haven project. We are looking at the Goal Zero Yeti-3000 system (3000 Whr, 500 full discharge cycles, to 80% residual capacity) at a sale price of $2,400 but are finding the extra cost of their PV modules quite steep. And looking at other 36-cell (12 volt) modules, I can’t find anything for less than $1.10/W. Since Goal Zero is looking at the recreational market, I thought that there might be other companies with comparable product offerings that are focusing on other markets like developing countries. Re: [RE-wrenches] Neutral sizing
Ooh, be careful with the neutral-less inverter choice.I am pretty sure that if the service has a neutral, you must use an inverter that has one as well, per codes.I don't have the article in front of me, however a few years back it was common to install inverters without a neutral, then a new code cycle was adopted and every one had to use a neutral. We had a few that failed and had to pull a neutral to install the replacements. -Glenn Sent from my 'smart' phone so please excuse spelling and typos. -- Original message--From: GarrisonDate: Sun, Sep 23, 2018 1:17 AMTo: glenn.b...@glbcc.com;RE-wrenches;Cc: Subject:Re: [RE-wrenches] Neutral sizing Hi Jay, Is this for an inverted output circuit? If so then I think the NEC reference you’re looking for is 705.95(B). That says you can size the neutral to the same size as the EGC if the neutral is used only for instrumentation, voltage detection or phase detection. A number of single phase inverters these days do not require a neutral at all, so if the AHJ will not accept downsizing it may be worth changing inverters. Have you got another manufacturer's cc you could swap in temporarily? Do you have a load on the batteries? Bulk/Absorb set at 29V, battery voltage at ~25 V (pulled down with a heat gun). I changed that Kid out for another new one> Same issue! I disconnected the PV wires where they land in the Kid and got 9.3 amps short circuit, 105 volts oc Called Midnight tech support but we couldn't come up with a good solution. Ideas? Re: [RE-wrenches] grounding on metal roofs
Depends on the seam profile. Same device may be used in many cases. We have Also drilled and used the standard direct burial lugs on the underside of the pans, at the wave when they hang over enough to get working space. Then a horizontal run of copper wire to connect. Don't be lulled into thinking that S-5 clamps are listed for grounding roof pans - they are not. They are only listed for module bonding to ground.
