Re: [RE-wrenches] Top of Pole Mount Array on Ledge

2021-06-23 Thread palumbo131m
Ben,
There is a way if the ledge is solid and true. Twice I have done the following
with ledge at 18” to 24” below grade. Excavate down to ledge, drill down into
the ledge and you will determine the suitability of the following method. Drill
for a pattern of many rebar penetrations in to the ledge. Drill to a reasonable
depth (as deep into the ledge as you are able) in my case it was based on our
drilling tool and bit length capabilities. We used a large sono tube. 42” as a
recall, both of these jobs were over 12 years ago and my recall on the exact
size may be off.
Determine the best adhesive product to use in your drilled holes for the rebar,
again my memory fails as to what we used based on recommendation from a local
civil engineer. The sono tube height above grade was determined to be 2’ for
one TPM12 and 3.5’ above grade for a TPM16. Depth down to the ledge determines
how high above grade you need the concrete footing/base. Use rebar lengths that
will end a few inches below the finished surface. For grounding you can coil up
ground wire and lay it on the surface of the ledge before your concrete pour. I
ran the ground wire through a short length of 1/2” or 3/4” PVC conduit, to
protect the copper ground wire where it comes out of the concrete. Place the
conduit coming out of the concrete with the ground wire just to the side of
where the mounting plate base for the TPM will be and fill the PVC conduit with
a good caulk sealer to keep air and water out of this hole as a nexus of
concrete, and air will corrode the copper. The TPM’s for those two jobs were
made of 8” SCHD 80 steel, we had a large plate welded to the bottom with 4
vertical side supports on the pipe up about a foot. Place the appropriate sized
anchor bolts in the concrete pour to match your TPM base. Both of these TPM’s
have worked out well over the years. Local conditions will determine the
suitability of this method.

[RE-wrenches] Magnum MM1524AE rebuild?

2021-06-08 Thread palumbo131m
Is a Magnum MM1524AE inverter/charger repairable and if so by whom?

It failed after being reconnected to a battery bank, the typical small spark
at the battery terminal when being reconnected was accompanied by a popping
sound in the Magnum. Killed the Magnum.

[RE-wrenches] OB VFX3524M vs regular VFX

2021-05-20 Thread palumbo131m
I'm going to be upgrading on old dual inverter OutBack FX 2524 system to
dual VFX3524 inverters and would prefer to not use the new R series as I
have heard about problems with them.

I have located only one reconditioned VFX3524 so far but I see that there
are VFX3524M Marine version's available. I have no experience with the
Marine version. Can the Marine model work in an off grid home?

I see in the spec sheet that the VFX3524M has a listed AC Input Current Max
of 30A while the regular VFX3524 is listed at 60A.

[RE-wrenches] OutBack Inverters

2021-05-17 Thread palumbo131m
I am considering swapping in new OutBack inverters into one of my
neighborhoods 24V off grid systems. It now has two FX2524's. The demands on
the system have grown, now a two family home with a 240Vac mini-split for
air conditioning and a 240Vac Grundfos SQ 1/2hp sub pump to be added this
summer to the system. Drilling a well for a back-up to the gravity fed
spring water which has been getting too low during the past few summers.

I'm assuming that I should go with two VFXR3524's.

Will this be a direct swap in as far as having the same wiring setup into an
OutBack Flexware system? And will it work with an older Mate?

Anything else I should know about these OutBack "R" inverters?

Hi Howie,

I just checked my inventory in the barn on Evergreen modules. All never used.

*   (5) ES-180 RL
*   (1) ES-190 RL
*   (1) ES-195 RL
*   (3) ES-A-205 fa3

I would like $ 2 per watt. No shipping, you must pick up. No credit cards. Cash
or check only.

Re: [RE-wrenches] Large off-grid inverter/storage

Is “25 Kw per hour” a real value? For us old school people there is kW and they
is kWh (kilowatt hours). I’m guessing that it is 25 kWh per average day, or,
about 750 KWh / month.
